Dash has to come out?

Heres my problem, i got my car serviced at ultratune on tuesday. I asked them to do a roadworthy check for me and they came back saying that my front left tyre is bold and my front dermist doesnt switch over.

I already new that the front dermist didnt work and i thought i could repair it for a maximum of $300. Well thats not that case, ultratune wanted $700 to repair it!!. So i went to have a look at the from dermist myself. The dermist actually works but when you turn up the fan to full it makes a sound then stops blowing from the front?. If u turn it back down it works again............is this problem really worth $700?

Also if anyone knows of any good places that can fix this problem in melbourne, i would much appreciate it

Have you tried it with engine on?
Being a Fairmont, it has climate control yes?
Where does the air go when the demist is on?
It may be just a hose has come off!

Yeh being a fairmont it has climate control. Every now and again the demist will work for no apparent reason, when i turn up the fan to the second highest level the front demist airflow will make a sound then the air stops flowing through it. After it makes the sound the whole front demist wont work at all. Then maybee a couple of days later it will work again but if you turn the fan up to high it conks out again?.

I have tried with the engine on, makes no difference. From what i can see all the hoses are in place. im just not sure whats going on............could be a blockage but there doesnt seem to be anything blocking it though :ticking: .

Both my EA's had very random fans/climate contols. They would do stupid things all the time. One was that bad it would only ever demist and thats it.

I wa slucky and the RWC guys never caught it, but its a pain in the butt I know. While its a lot of cash, $700 could be right. Parts might only be $300 or so, but labour is going to kill ya unfortunatley.
