Question Sunglass holder lights and steering column/ignition light ?

Sorry to bug you all again about another light mod , but i only have 2 more to go . I haven't broken anything yet doing all the other light mods thanks to the help of all you guys .. ty very much , and i'de like to keep it that way ..lol

Anyway....

1/. I want to change the 2 small map lights on the sunglass holder to white led's , i was wondering if the clear lense caps covering the lights clip off somehow , or is it necessary to remove the sunglass holder to get to the globes ?

2/. I want to change the ignition/steering column light to a blue led , same question with this , can the clear cover be pryed off with a flathead screwdriver or something to change the globe , or does the steering column cover etc have to be removed to get to the globes ?

Any help would be greatlly appreciated , I'de rather be able to just clip the clear covers off all the lights rather than having to disassemble stuff, but being plastic covers i just want to make sure they actually clip off before i pry at them with something ..cheers ..

In both cases, you need to remove the particular bits. ie sunglass holder has to come out of the roof, and pull steering column cover apart. I have already done both of these in LEDs in the XR. I used 8000mcd white in the map lights, and it is not as bright as the globe that was in there. It is certainly a whiter light though, but it's more of a spot light now!

Thanks JC ;) , gee it sounds like you have attacked 'ALL' the lights in your cars too ! ..lol , you seem to be the most 'on the ball' with all the little gizmos using lights.

Again , thanks , as i probably would of tryed prying them off first and damaging the clear plastic covers . Your help with the led conversions etc etc have been very helpfull .

I need to see what's causing my driver's side map light to come on sometimes and not come on other times ... usually comes on after flicking the light a few times ... or a good thump with the left fist (while driving and keeping my eyes on the road.

I might just change the globes over in them ... but it might be a dirty contact issue though.

Any others with this problem.

Oh ... sorry about threadmine.

Sounds like either a dirty contact on the switch contacts , or , the bulb maybe just hanging in and only just contacting now and then / from all the bashing ? ...lol , or even the filament in the globe could be on its way out.

Although if it comes on when the switch if off , then i'de be considering a knackered switch .

Doesn't sound like nothing too major anyway .

It comes on when the switch is on ... sometimes ... but stays off when the switch is in the off position ... I'd be really annoyed if it went on and off with the switch in the OFF position ... LOL ... I'd be thinking it'd be Gremlins in the ute then ... LOL

Replace the globe with an LED, and you don't have to worry about dirty contacts, or replacing the bulb, ever again.

The light assy should unclip from the sunglass holder quite easily.

Remove the lower half of the steering column shroud to access the globe holder.
