I was just wondering if there was any thought into using a selling template for the sale section?
It would stop people leaving out vital information like price and location. maybe something like this, For sale: Item Condition: describe in detail, be accurate and honest Price: self explanatory Extra Info: any other details you wish to mention Pictures: if you cannot get pictures, please state to avoid people asking for it Contact Details: PM, phone, email etc Location: absolute must Delivery & Conditions of Delivery: eg pickup only, courier interstate, no COD etc Or this DESCRIPTION: <insert text here> CONDITION: <insert text here> REASON FOR SELLING: <insert text here> ADDITIONAL INFO: <insert text here> PRICE: <insert text here> LOCATION/CONTACT DETAILS: <insert text here> POSTAGE/PICKUP DETAILS: <insert text here> PICS: <insert here> It works very well on other forums and stops several people asking the same question's

Can appreciate that, as it has been discussed in our admin forums before. To what is available now, and based on our resources, I think we can definitely look at making this available as a guide to people posting in the for sale section. Cheers

This wasn't a snide comment, it was more me pointing out that it can be done now, even without a software upgrade

Would you consider making certain fields mandatory, such as the location???

I have seen this 'template' in other forums BUT to make sure it is implemented to "ALL" the adds on those sites the new for sale threads had to be approved before the listings appeared....

I'm not sure if it would work here but on another forum when you went into the sales yard it took you to a page with the rules first, stating all the rules for selling and the template was also there for you to copy and paste into your thread.
The only problem that we found with that was that you had to see that page with the rules every time you went into the sales yard. If there was a way for it to come up only when you hit the NEW THREAD button in the sale section that would be ideal. Also if the template wasn't followed threads where locked by admin with a message to use the template.

I dont see the point of some sellers PM'ing 10 different people the price or location when you only need to put it in the thread once then everyone know's.

The best method is to have the template, make people use it on new post, have it contain mandatory fields like location, price and contact details, then list the ad as a closed post so people make contact via pm/email/phone and none of the useless chatter occurs Mods can then delete ads which people don't comply with the template properly, or whom edit afterwards to bypass the template

Plenty of sites have it coded to auto-fill the 'new topic' post box..
You could even use javascript to make sure they didn't remove any of the items.. doesn't stop them from not putting anything after it though. |
