Exclamation Well its still stuffed..

u guessed it, not going again....

i drove into the gym car park, it stalled about a meter from the park so i just rolled it it, i tried to start it again and it kicked over straight away.. i thought, this is not good.

i come out, starts straight away, put it in reverse, as i was rolling back it cuts out, and this time doesnt start again... it cranks but doesnt start

ive got no idea what it could be... maybe the dizzy? mayby the coil? theyre the only 2 things i havnt replaced on it. whats everone think about that idea?

maybe i shouldnt have tried to do the bbm conversion, my car hates me now...

Bender

Replace the dizzy and coil Bender. I've had this same problem with my EA and that was the cause of it.

just replace the coil first, if still a problem then replace the TFI on the dizzy, the whole dizzy is a little overboard, IMO.

Bender, any idea of the turns ratio on your coil? Just wondering whether we could swap and observe the problem moving from one car to the other.

Yeah i think the coil is the next cause of action.

Dellboy - Ive only just replaced the TFI 2 weeks ago so im pretty sure its not that

Ignition - I have NFI how many turns the coil has :

The cars stuck at Newmarket atm and ive got no idea where to tow it to, i was thinking back to an auto electrician and let him do it, but i dont really want the cost of it...

is someone willing to lend a hand at all?

He's already replaced the TFI!

Bender, is the coil hard to get to on the 6? It can't take that much time to swap coils where the car is rather than towing it! You're probably best swapping with an I6 boy anyway to eliminate variables. Is it legal to tow a car with another using rope? I have some rope but don't have my tow ball with me. If you've got the bits I could come and give you a hand fitting the coil tonight???

the coil on the I6 is under the inlet manifold towards the back of the motor, which is like having it under the headers on a V8 to give a good visual picture !Gn|T|0n

Yuck.
So you need to jack it up. I'll see if I can get my trolley jack returned and bring it along if that'll help Bender?

was it replaced with plenty of thermal paste? they overheat and die very quickly otherwise.

well it turned out to be something quite simple in the end..... but im still ****ed about it....

i get to the carpark, all prepared to get dirty with my girl. i was checking out how the hell i was going to get the coil out, i see some electrical tape wrapped around a pink and blue wire, (i call it the god wire cause if it stops, nothing goes..) anyway, i have a fiddle with that, think to myself, i wonder if that works.. turn the key, starts instantly...

Ill put it down to REALLY BAD f#$king wiring. i drove her hame and it was faultless. this weekend ill fix it all up and put the new coil in that i got, just to be on the safe side.

So far becasue of this ONE wire, its cost me 2 TFI moduals, 1 coil, 1 alternator and regulator (but i fear that was on its way anyway) totalling about $500 all up.

ah well...

thanks for all the suggestions guys. its all a learning curve.

Bender

Good to hear she's all going well. I take it also solved the problem of the voltage spiking?

hehe funny story that too....

as i thought the TPI's were stuffed, they went into the bin... i do have a spare coil but that'll be going in on the weekend, so all in all an expensive journey that could have been avoided...

Just thought id let everyone know, i ended up replacing the coil yesterday, not as bad a job as i thought it was going to be. It now works like magic, theres no sign of stalling, the idle is 100% better and it seems to be kicking down a bit better too. so im quite chuffed :1syellow1

oh and i also fixed my aircon too, was blowing out the window vents, turned out that there were no, thats right, no vacuum lines connected to the vacuum tree, hmm i wonder how that happened...

cheers guys for the help

Bender
