Default rebuilding 2l

Hey everyone

I think I spun a bearing on the weekend, so today we pulled the motor out and tommorow its goin to my friends workshop and we will be sussing out whats wrong and rebuilding the motor while its out.

Just wondering if i should think about boring it out, porting etc etc

Any advice, things to look out for, does it start getting expensive???

my friend is a mechanic, but machining will not be done by him, but he will get good prices if i decide to squeeze some more power from the engine.

any help would be appreciated, what pistons to use etc etc

it depends on how much you willing to spend. but what i did the first time with my pinto was put 40thou over sizes flat tops in and a single 45mm weber with a cam. i went 1 stage up from standard. it was pretty quick after that

Yeah Im looking at the same sort of up-grade. How much dollars are we looking at for something like that (mentioned above) including labour ??

pistons were are about $400-700
i payed 150 for the cam
it depends on wat you want. a 40mm carby is about 250-350. a 45mm is about 350-500.
if you want the cheap way out get a 34mda off a xf 250 crossflow motor my mate put one on and it went ok with re-jetting
enjoy but dont spend to much

dont worry about forged pistons for now unless your thinking of running it at around 240bhp. theyll hold up well. anything running above 7500rpm, just get steel conrods because these break before the crank. i think there is some maching that you can do to the existing pistons t raise the compression a small amount but you'd have to check on the specifications for that.
