Default Radio Code (oops)

Hello All,

Replacing headlight bulb in my '98 EL GLi Wagon and had the battery out. Buttoned it all up and of course radio is flashing 'CODE'.

I'm thinking I remember it so I knock in the numbers, strike one. Try again, strike two. Oh thats right, its not that, its this, strike three and I'm out.

Radio now flashes 'Err'. Hmmm, never seen that before. Read the book and it says that the 'Err' will stay flashing for a random amount of time depending on how many times I entered the wrong code. Well, its been a week now. I've even disconnected the battery and that hasn't worked. Nothing works and I'm so p'd with myself.

To let you know, it took exactly 45 seconds to go into the house and get the code out of the 'Ford File'. 45 seconds. :

Any advice for a 3 time loser.

Sorry, I don't know why but I found this quite funny. I think it's the way you worded it.

I guess my only advice would be to go and see your friendly Ford dealer. I'm sure it will take one of the service guys less than 30 seconds to fix the problem.

When I worked 8 weeks at holden dealer and this happened we just plugged in a tech computer to get code and fix, dunno if it would be the same for falcons. Still, might be a good bet to try your local dealer?

This happened to my mums car, just wait and leave it on, after a while it will stop saying "err" and you'll be able to put the code in, or you could leave it in your driveway or something leave it on accessories so it says "err" and just come back after a few hours and check! That's what we did with mums car.

When you get the 'ERR' message, leave the key on acc for at least an hour, and it should clear. Give me the VIN number and I'll get you the code, providing its still the factory radio.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Leaving the key turned to 'ACC' for 15 minutes did the trick. :

Thanks again for your help. :eclipsee_
