Default Navi in the AU and I may have solved the Series I/II steering control puzzle

I'm putting the AVN6000 into the AU.

http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/

To be honest from the beginning, I work for these guys, so I get it at discount. But I need some help from the forum members on where to find wiring, etc so that I can get it in, and show it to others.

I know I can organise a group buy discount for forum members, so hopefully I'll get some interest in this thread and it'll be win win for all.

My questions are about wiring locations, and to check colouring.

As I understand, the wiring is as follows:

VSS: White (tap into from cluster?)
Reverse: Red-Black (where?)
Hand brake: Dark Green-Red (obvious)

Any ideas on where the reverse wire would run from/into?

I'll keep you posted on the installation, and upload pics as they become available.

As for steering controls, there is a little more tweaking involved, but we may have something for Ford fans who want a simple box to hook up between aftermarket stereos and existing steering controls. Keep you posted.

i am definatly interested in this, as i have an eclipse head unit and would love to able to use my steering wheel controls with it. one thing i was told by the place i got it from was that eclipse will be making a firmware upgrade to be able to plug the controls in directly? is this true?

Hey Dilute

It was nice meeting you last night. As you know, I'm very interested in what you're developing and I'm sure many others will be too. No doubt getting the s/wheel controls to work with aftermarket or different series units will be a winner. I'm going to have to keep my eye on you're progress with everything :voldar02:

VSS - you can get from the ECU as well - Pin 58.
Reverse would come off the reverse switch - on an Auto, this is attached to the gearbox (look under the car). At worst, just tap into the wire on the reverse lights.

Thanks for that. I'd prefer to get the signal from inside the car though; looks like I'll be tapping into the reverse lights!

UPDATE

Just spoke with engineering, and we are about 4 weeks from production for the steering wheel control. The design review will be early next week. At the moment, the control unit will be specifically for the AVN unit but should be compatible with other Eclipse units later on in the year.

Will start pulling the AU apart tomorrow and doing some searching.

Hey GraveDilute good to see an audio company showing some innovation and let me just say that your mob is really starting to build a very good rep.

Anyway my question i have a E7703AVX unit that i will be fitting to my car soon. Do you think at this stage it will be much drama if i need to fit the steering control unit after its in the car, or should i perhaps wait till the units completed and fit it at the same time?

Just an update.
These steering wheel modules should be on sale early September.
They will be compatible with ALL vehicles and most Eclipse units.

So hands up those that use their steering wheel controls on the standard unit? I know I and a heap of others don't so it seems pretty useless unless you have an eclipse h/u, as for the navi, don't get me started :
Just my 2 bob worth and I am entitled to it. :
