Default In Dash Dvd Player Help!!!!

Just bought an in dash DVD player yesterday and when i read through theinstallation instuctions, it says i need to connect a wire to my hand brake and one to my reversing light. Are both of these necessary for the unit to operate?? Or are they just incase you want a reversing camera and so that you cant watch dvd's unless you have the hand brake on???

Also....where can i purchase a ford security scew bit. Geelong car sound left mine in when they installed my last cd player and i cant undo it obviously.

cheers guys. :thebirds:

No, this is a safety feature i think. It's so the unit only operates when the car's handbrake is on, so you don't watch it while you're driving..

In order to make it play all the time it has to be earthed permanantly to make it work all the time! I just had a setup fitted! When it is fitted to the handbrake it is only earthed when the light is on!

go down to your local auto store and buy a set of Torx bits, or if you are lazy you could drill it out or use a couple of jewelers screw drivers together.

got it all in guys. now gotta tune my monoblocks. gotta know the voltage of the rca's to do this. could i simply use a multimeter to find out??

also, even though this unit has 3 pairs of RCA out, only 1 pair is a mono sub out. as i want sub control through the head unit, will using RCA splitters affect quality and also volume???

The 3 set of RCA outputs from your head unit will be
Front
Rear
Sub.
The reason they have 3 is so you can fade front to rear and it wont affect the sub output.
That is if you are running 2 or 3 amps if you get what i mean.

If you are running a single mono block amp then that would be all you would need to connect the sub out to.
If you are running multiple monoblock amps then splitters will be fine as they dont affect sound quality or volume at all.

hope this helps

just went out and used some splitters on the sub rca's. sounds no where near as good as it did on the old cd player. WAY less volume. i am running 2 monoblocks which are running two 15's. it also seems that the louder i turn it up, the less volume the sub produce but the more the rest of the speakers produce. what can be causing this???

i tried turning the gain on the amps up but that made it worse. i thought that the sub out on the DVD player was 4v. but when i set the gain on both amps to around 4v its still sounds quiet. even more so actually. WHAT CAN I BE DOIN WRONG???

interesting. may just need to 'trial and error' it... remember that if the sub output is 4v and u put in a splitter u have 2v to each amp....

i just got the drill and drilled the head off the security screw n now i i havent got screw holding the hu in place but its a pretty tight fit so its all good except that if some one broke in they could take it out just by looking at it lol. might just replace the screw with an allen key type screw but e series are pretty hard to break into unless you have a brick lol.

To set your subs, turn all your gains down (to the 4V setting) and turn off any EQ's on the headunit but set the sub output to full. Turn up the headunit until the speakers start to distort then back it off a little bit. Usually this will be around 3/4 volume. Now start turning up the gain on the mono blocks. Turn it up until the sub starts to distort then back it off a bit. The bass should be overpowering the speakers but you can turn it down now simply by using the sub control on the headunit.

Not quite correct. The potential to each amp is still 4v however the current has halved.

Doug has the setup method nailed above! Follow that and you shouldn't have any dramas.

on my monoblocks though, the gain dial is labeled from 0.4v all the way to 6.5v

if i turn it up past about 1.5v it just get very quiet. that what im trying to say.
