Default Finally got a E-series

Will I Finally did it.

Went out and got a 95 EL( sorry EF) Fairmont.
The only mods on it are factory options Tickford suspension and Wheels.

Now the Autobox is smooth and the car generally runs well, but there seems to have a miss in the engine and I have found a weeping head gasket, now this is not a surprise or a problem I will simply spend some more money and get it fixed. But I was wondering what sort of money to expert to get the head gasket repaired? I am located in Western Sydney (Carlingford for those that know the area).

I hope the miss is one of these Spark Plugs, Leads or Coil pack.

Nice car. About the headgasket, I got mine replaced for $550, but they can usually be up to or over $1000.

that's an EF mate, the EF has italic funky 'FAIRMONT' badging on the rear, EL has slightly italic block capitals. Also the el has the chrome boot garnish down either side of the rear number plate, not just the spear over the top. Couple of other visible things too. EL started '96

your missing problem could be leads, my EL I6 i used to have had that problem straight from the car yard.. horrible under load. hopefully some new leads and maybe sparks will cure your problem.

nice car either way!

am i seeing things or does it have a bonnet bulge ? :

Nice ride mate!

Fantz; that does look like a bulge but I think it's a reflection if you look close enough.

the EF has a chrome spear over the top of the number plate

the EL has a chrome spear over the top of the number plate AND down either side.

red one's the EF, blue one's the EL

thanks to www.carsales.com.au for the pics.

EDIT: or did you mean no numberplate chrome ? Either way this is a good demo to show rmack the differences

yep nice pickup indeed - looks pretty tidy.

another way to tell from the front rmack, is the grille.. the EL has a bigger chromed grille. couldn't be stuffed looking through carsales.com again so used a pic of mine:
