Default Auto Trans Thump (HELP)

Hey guys,
My new SR is playing up a bit. I have a 3 month warranty on it so if you have any thoughts I could arm myself with when I go to the dealer I would appreciate it.

When cold the transmission plays up. Always the same corner at the end of my street. I take off and it starts ok. Then on the change from 1st to second it revs right up there for about 2-3 seconds then THUMPS or CRASHES into second. Any ideas. I am just worried that the dealer is going to say "This is normal" and dick me around until the warranty runs out. It has also made a huge thump once when changing from reverse into drive while stationary.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Check for leaks of transmission fluid as it sounds as if it may be low on oil.

After you check the fluid levels, go straight to the dealer and HASSLE THEM HARDCORE. This is not acceptable. How many k's has the car done?
Chances are it is a solenoid issue, but still, if it is not fixed soon, that means very early death to your auto. Expect no more than 25,000klms in its present state.

It's done 115,000ks. Heading down there at 2 o'clock today. Whats with the solenoid? What does it do and is it expensive??

The problem I have is Im in the country and have to take it to the local dealer who will have to be paid by the Sydney dealer I bought it from so they may not be to forthcoming. Thats why I need to be armed with info.

Thats not too many k's for that kind of trouble. Whats with the solenoid? It sounds like it's stuffed. It tells the automatic how and when to shift. Is it expensive? Everything with an automatic is expensive.

Sorry to say it but it does sound like it is either low on fluid or one of the solenoids is on the way out. Usually this is from a simple oil leak which in turn runs the tranny dry and then it dies, it will probably just get worse till it dies. Once they start to go only a rebuild will suffice.

Solenoid replacement is under $200.
If its fluid then get it there quick because it'll wreck your tranny in no time.

If it's the 3 month statutory warranty, then it's as good as new car warranty. I got my gearbox rebuilt as it has a really bad whine in 1st gear - no clunky shifts or anything, but lots of metal in the filter. Took it back to dealer and I was without the car for 7 days, at the end of which it had a fully rebuilt auto. Has been good ever since (was rebuilt 2 years ago).

Does this only happen when the box is cold?
Try a transmisson service frist. Mine did the same thing when cold but was ok when warn. Mech gave it a basic service & some new fuild problem fix & hasn't miss a beat since. Buy the sound of thing your got the right km's on the clock for service.
