Hey guys,
Thought id let you all know about Shell Canning there Optimax Range. They are replacing it with a new Fuel called V-power. V-power is a 98RON Fuel and V-power Racing (the ethanol blend) is at 100RON. Info Here But unlike Optimax, which was only available in the Eastern States, V-Power will be Australia wide at Coles Express/Shell Service Stations. So you can use ur 4c/litre discount Voucher . |

No loss.
As with everyone else, when I was still on ULP, BP Ultimate was the way to go. Find that BP LPG is far better than Shell LPG too.

V Power? I think that was the name Ferrari F1 Shell fluids. Sound like some tricky advertising to hide a price hike.

a mate who just left shell told me the 98 ron v-power is the same as optimax, with the 100 ron they are going to ditch the ethanol in it, sales have been slow and they've pinpointed the ethanol as the reason.

was the 100ron, just 98 + ethanol?, coz if there ditchign the ethanol in it, then it will be pure (so to speak) 100 ron, which then could convert me to using it!

When we drove home from Qld we used two tanks of Ultimate and one tank of Vortex 98. Trip computer seemed to suggest that we were going to get a bit better mileage out of the Vortex (30-40km out of 60 litres). Motorcycle friends say Optimax is a big no no in bikes. One bloke reckons he got a jar of Optimax and a jar of Ultimate and sat them in the shade. The optimax evaporated twice as fast as the Ultimate. I dont know if that is good or bad, but its certainly different.

The WRX clan have been complaining about the quality of Optimax for years. A friend of mine had an Alfa 156 that only ran Shell fuel until it started smelling like mangos.. switched to BP and everything was fine from then on. Apparently the high sulfur content of Optimax was causing it. In regards to ethanol blends.. I personally havn't tried it because i simply refuse to pay 15c per litre extra when ethanol has no tax or excise applied. I pay the thieves enough tax as it is..

I can't understand how they can get away with adding 5% ethanol and charging more for it, when ethanol costs less to produce. They should be charging less.

My friend ran premium fuel in his CBR 250 and it killed it. Had to drain the tank and flush the stystem out. The bike just wouldnt start. AT the time we diddnt relate the problem to the fuel. He then Put premium into his Suzuki GT 750 and the same problem occured. Bike got about 1 k up the road and died. No fuel getting through. Both times he used Ultimate. Since then I assumed using premium fuel in bikes was a big no no.

You are not supposed to use Optimax on bikes...At least the carby ones...!!!
I have used optimax for 10 year without any problems and have found it the most potent..(highset preformce) Followed closely by BP ultimte followed by Vortex.... Different cars respond better to different fuels no two cars even from the same make will be the same... Suggestion as well...Fuel goes off if left in tank for two long...Optimax will go off within a period of 4 weeks...(Its still usable but looses its potential and quality... I can get more infor I have a friend of a friend who is a petrol engineer... :
