Had her over 6 months now, she's got 87,000km's on the clock, stock as except for a BMC pannel air filter, and i have a full set of DBA Slotted rotors waiting too go on, but that will be it for the mods..want too keep it stock as for collectors value in the future...maybe, lol. Was sold from Doncaster FTE in early 2001, i rang them, or who they are now, to confirm that it was a genuine Eibach. It was =)

It was seeing one of these in my uni days (same colour, Eibach n' all) that prompted me to log on to Carsales and see what these Cougar's were all about...

From there I found the one I would end up owning!

ah yes, it's been one of those days again! Went to my mechanic to get my brakes, rotors and oil changed. We whacked the car onto the hoist and what do ya know, there's a screw in my rear left hand tyre...great. I was goin in to get them rotated too and trust the good tyre to get the screw. So i'm currently sitting on 3 michelins and a firestone. I'm heading into bob jane again on sat to pick up the other 3 tyres!

Damn dude, that's a bit screwy :P hahaha... but it could've been worse. When I first read your post I thought you said they 'whacked the car into a hoist' lol!

Ok, just got new rubber on the Kitty. Firestone Firehawks @ 225/50 R16. $160 each (special)

Tell u what, they are pretty damn good. Did a good 50k's on them today and the handling is superb. Steering lightened up a little too. the big test will be in the wet!

Hi All,

Have owned my Cougar since Sept 07.
First saw one back in early 2000 in the city & decided there & then that I wanted one.
Was made redundant from my job last year, had to hand back the company car so guess what I bought?
Very hard to find when you need to buy a car in a hurry - wanted a black auto, ended up with a silver manual - still happy with it though.
Have any of you experienced problems with the door seals leaking in heavy rain? Would really appreciate any info.
Thanks.

Welcome Petal!

Hopefully you're happy with the choice you've made! Umm.. I haven't had any leaking problems, but I have had my drivers door seal replaced for free by Ford when they replaced the wrong part.

So, what year model did you get and whereabouts are you?
Manual's the better transmission for a Cougar anyway lol!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the welcome.

My Cougar is the 1999 SW and I am in SW Sydney (just found the update profile section). I agree manual is better but not in peak hour traffic when the moron in the auto in front of you just takes their foot off the brake and lets their car creep forward!

So far as the leaking door seal goes I think it has just deteriorated & needs replacing, it is not a major leak - the water just drips in a little if there has been particularly heavy rain. Unfortunately I think the previous owner of my Cougar didn't love it as much as I do.

Melissa.

Hi George,

Thanks for the welcome.

Didn't mean to sound bitchy about auto drivers - it's just annoying in heavy traffic.

Does anyone know why there are no front cup holders in the Cougars & has anyone found a solution? I miss my morning coffee on the way to work!

Cool to see you have a manual, because you can pull more grunt out of the motor before changing gear & this equals faster take offs from the lights.

In my manual I can take off in second then go straight to fifth gear. Not that I do it much.

If you open your console it has two cup holders in the console lid, but be care full if you brake hard the console lid will close.

Thanks Cougs. Have seen the cup holders in the console lid but I am not a contortionist so I don't use them! I guess I will just have to go without. :

Welcome to the board Petal.

I have had minor problems with my drivers door seal but it has to be raining very, very heavy before it will leak and then it only drips. If it is bad you might have to replace the seal or maybe check that the door hasn't moved slightly.

While I think of it has anyone had problems with the roof plugs that go in the slots for the roof racks. How much do they cost?? Mine keep getting knocked off, I suspect by young kids checking it out.

I deliberately bought an auto because I was sick of the daily drag between my place and Mascot and 250 gear changes every day. It finally got to me so I bought an auto and haven't looked back.

Anyway welcome aboard Petal......

Hey Petal,

I used to have to frequent the M4 Parking Lot each morning and afternoon with the manual, so I can sympathise it's not the best transmission for those times, but every other time it comes into it's own. Now, where I work I get to stretch the legs a bit more so it's a little more fun.

As George said, it's great to have a female cat owner as well! I think you're the first on here, and in Australia that we know anyway!

As for front cup holders, sadly, aside from inside the centre console bit, we get nothing. The Americans got 'cup spillers' where our penholder goes. As I'm usually the
only one in the car, I use the contortionist technique with the cupholder in the back.

Post up some pics of your car, and yourself if you like, when you get a chance Though the weather hasn't exactly been good for that lately, I'd really like to get some up-to-date photos of mine when the sun shows itself!

Dave, when I got my car I had one of the roof plugs missing. From memory, I think it was about $16.00AUD to replace it, and it came unpainted.

Dan

Dan, i use the same 'contortionist' technique for drinks! :P

Dave, i have a solution with the plugs. mine were loose so out with the Aroldite!! (spelling) I'm never gonna have roof racks on the car, and if the next owner wants to....too bad

And Petal, don't worry about the Auto comment, Dave and I get it all the time from the rest of the lot on here :P I'm in traffic everymorning and although there are the times that i wish i had a manual, my auto has been great and very capable when needed. I think it's more the issue if u can drive a manual as opposed to having an auto and not being able to drive a manual

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the info - I guess you get lots of questions from newbies!

I'm on the M5 parking lot every day but I love driving a manual so I guess I have no choice really.

Will try & get pics up soon, I start work early & finish late so not much time for photo ops in daylight, let alone sunshine with the amount of rain we have had lately.

Are the Wings West bodykits still available for the Cougars and if so where can I find them? (all your Cougars put mine to shame at the moment)

See ya! :P

Melissa,

The place I got mine from used to have an active website, but the link appears to be dead. I'm not sure of the availability of the Wings West now, except maybe an import from the States. Either way, locally or imported, the kit cost a fortune, and then another small fortune to install and spray.

The company I ordered mine from was Unreal Autosports. The website www.unrealautosports.com and .com.au don't seem to work anymore.

Thanks Dan, my brother can do that sort of stuff but he is in Mackay QLD. I guess I will have to fork out for an all expenses paid trip to Sydney for him - probably cheaper! Anyway, gotta wait for the dollars to buid up a bit first.
Do you guys ever get together for events or anything like that?

Mark (pcperfection) and I have participated in a number of EuroFordClub events such as the All Ford Day and a couple of cruises. I generally attend the EFC cruises, whilst CougarBoy attends the Victoria Small Ford Sunday (and I joined him this year as well).

Apart from that, the other members haven't really got out much. There've been rumours and whispers of getting a CougarFest style meet going now we have a fair number of cars, but nothing's got off the ground so far :|

We also have a number of members in 'isolated' areas like ProfessorSabre (our pioneer) is pretty much alone in Adelaide.

I'd love to get everyone together though. Surely we must have the majority of Australian Cougar's on these forums by now!? :P
