Just came back from the local butcher with 2 scotch fillet steaks for tonight. The butchers and vege stores here are selling their normal amount of goods as normal.
Both of us being Keto, most of the food we eat comes from the butcher or veg store, the local farm supplies plenty of eggs.
There are millions of tomatoes grown locally and yet shoppers are hoarding.
Even the local AMPCO servo has plenty of sandwiches and breaky stuff.

A lot of people who shop at Colesworths have the loyalty cards.

It would not be hard to tweak the software so that cashiers could see typical purchases by type and quantity. The card-holder then meets eligibility for a matching pre-order or hold, paid in advance and non-refundable. They get a message (advance warning period chosen) advising of stock set aside for collection with ID.

My mum called me yesterday afternoon, my house bound uncle who lives locally to me has ran out of toilet paper. His wife can't leave him for extended periods of time to go hunt for TP.

From that call I was in Strathfield and started stopping at every Coles / Woolies / IGA / K-Mart / Big W / ALDI I could on the way to his house hoping that i would get lucky.

Nope - over a dozen places. Not one packet of TP, facial tissues, paper napkins, paper towels. Nothing.

Most were void of all meats, all rice, all other staple cereals, long life milk, tinned fish, tinned fruits and veggies.

Like something out of a doomsday movie.

Ended up having to go home and grab him 6 of my rolls for the moment.

To stubborn / proud to ask for help.

The local Coles is totally cleaned out - they are already shut (8pm) as they have next to nothing left to sell.

The local Aldi for my parents opened late to allow stocking and preparation for the flood of shoppers.

Tomorrow interest rates will drop to .25%

Everything is pointing to global economic doom and FB is full of arguments - you are either pro lock down or pro letting everyone get it and recovering.

How many elderly have no help from family or friends? If you have elderly around you or know of elderly in your area for goodness sake drop in and see if they are ok.

I wonder what stage 2 of the bailout package will be?

Next will be mortgage defaults and repossessions of family homes....

This gross hoarding conduct is offensive to the goodwill of everyone who is a fair dinkum Aussie, new or old, whatever colour. I'm not one for vigilante acts but agree with the blocking of online adverts for these hoarded items at extortionate prices.

I believe Meals on Wheels have some access to stock of loo rolls.

I popped into Aldi this afternoon and was shocked to find a very small pile of 4pk toilet paper.

I grabbed one and within seconds the 10 or 12 that were left were gone.

Had I been earlier and checked it wouldn't have been put out, had I been 30 seconds later I would have never known the pile was there.

Good job putting out of sorts the vulnerable - who should be isolating themselves - but out of desperation now have to go from town to town, shop to shop to get their usual necessities.

People suck, they should pull their head in and not panic buy. Most panic buyers aren't even at risk, so why the hoarding and panic buying? Sheep causing a problem because they're afraid of a problem.

I think besides profit there are possibly two other motives for panic buying in this situation.

One is a sort of procrastination “When I’m all stocked up, I’ll self-isolate”- but the idea of completeness in acquisition prior to this actually happening is like chasing the horizon (of which, the hoarders are subconsciously aware).

The second “motivation” is it’s a stress displacement mechanism. To look/feel busy doing something that in the back of the mind may have a purpose, to an extent mitigates escalating anxiety.

When you don’t “do” social media or TV the gross starkness of this derangement (in all its dimensions) is fully visible.

Agree, we don't need to battle the coronavirus, we need to change the way people react to it, that is a much greater threat to the welfare of everyone.

It is all fear at the end of the day and unfortunately they are unaware and come up with ways to justify their behaviour.

If everybody was able to keep a level head and go about business as usual the situation will have a greater chance of resolving itself.

My business looks after dozens of disabled people including children with compromised immune systems and as a result they understandably don't want carers in their homes at the moment.
That means parents and primary caregivers are carrying the full load and don't have 2 or 3 hours to queue for supplies (a lot of which they can't get).
When you take extra for yourself, you are leaving another person short.

QLD have lifted the curfew on truck deliveries to supermarkets. Hopefully other states will follow. There is plenty of supply.
