Hi gang, Geoff from Brisbane.

This is the first Ford we have had for a while. Had a few in the 70s and 80s like a lot of Australians did.
Very impressed with the Zetec's handling and the engine's good torque at lower RPMs

The Boss loves the Zetec's style, size, and the main buying point was the iridescent purple colour :
I am growing to like the colour, and its not as over the top as my Burnt Orange coloured 1974 TD 250 Cortina was.

The only concerns with the car are the air cleaner setup on the Duratec engine. What where they thinking when they designed such an inefficient looking (has to suffer from lots of heat sink being stuck at the back over the top of the exhaust) layout. Seems to work reasonably though.

My other concern is the way the front bumper is held on (or not) at the bottom. I know it is designed to detach if you scrap it on a gutter, speed bump, etc but it really shows some woeful lack of good engineering.

Other than these concerns its a great little thing to drive and heaps of fun.

Quick question, where are WQ Fiestas made? Germany, Sth Africa, Pommyland :

Regards Geoff :

The WQ model is built in Germany.

With regards to the intake tract on the Duratec, they don't look like an efficient system but one would assume that the plastic that it's constructed from would provide a degree of insulation from the heat.

If you're keen, check out websites like www.pumaspeed.co.uk or teamtorquesteer.co.uk for different cold air intakes.

Thanks I thought they where. Ford seem to want to keep it a state secret though, as I can't find any information on it as to where it was manufactured.

An easy way of checking is looking at the VIN. If it starts with a W it's German, a 6 means it's Australian, M if it's Thai.

The autos are easier to get - demand isn't high for the little 1.4 auto, moreso in the Zetec.

Oh and also for the rest of the family to get around in :eclipsee_

How about yourself? Do you have anyone in the family wanting to take your baby out for a spin yet?

By the way, did I say your car looks awesome in that colour. Maybe I should have chosen that too.

I cringe everytime mum takes out my car cause she kerbed my last beamer :

Hahaha well, the only other person in my family that drives manual is my brother who has a 2000 Integ TypeR anyways so he doesnt really car, however on the first day he took it for a good spin already. Mostly ive just been having friends testing out the car and everyone of them was amazed by the look and drive of the car.

Ive always had a sports coupe when i first got a car, so im glad that im getting a small fuel efficient good looking car just to get to uni and back. So much more piece of mind that a 97 car. lol

You can't go wrong with the new Fiesta mate. I took it for a 10min test drive and after that, I placed an order for one straight away. Definately better than just a runaround. Handles great too. Pity about the power though. Can definately do with more. Fingers crossed for turbo or supercharger kit???

Hi Geoff,

The way that little rubbery front bumper is held on is a joke isnt it! I got sick of it coming off (once it does it once, it just cant help itself...) so i screwed in on in multiple places before we lost it. One issue i had with the air filter, as there is 14 or so screws holding the box together, this was all too hard for Ford servie to undo apparently, upon inspection myself I found a filter that appeared to never had been changed after 64k. Seriously.
Also, the spark plugs rust, keep an eye on it, change regularly. You can get Bosch platinum tipped for about $25 a set, good for 60k, but due to the corrosion, 25k will do to i replace them.
But as yours is new you dont need to worry!
Enjoy driving the best little thing on 4 wheels!

Just acquired an 06/07 (built Nov 06... but plated Jan 07) WQ 3 door.. Jeans Blue. Had 19,000 k's and got it for 10k.. Not bad I thought and way better than what we started looking at.. A Getz.... Anyway after reading a bit, including this site, decided that the pick of the small cars was the Fiesta. Didn't even test one until I was testing the one I bought. Convinced immediately. Love the nice solid and tight feel of the drive. Great handling and the seats are firm and comfy. The Getz seats I know from experience are terrible. I could never get comfy in the Getz no matter what I did.
Anyway very happy recent owner here.

Last car was 87 Telstar Ghia.. Now I get way better economy too.

I also wouldn't mind white lettering on the Maxxis tyres, but that might be going a bit far.
