I suppose anything AMC would be rarely seen in Australia. There were plenty of Hornets around in the 70s and 80s but not so anymore.

Yeah, pretty sure pacers (and gremlins etc) were never here. The only AMC models we had were ones that were assembled here (AMI*), and the pacer was never assembled here.

Mainly Javelins, hornets, ambassador, rebel, matador, plus I guess those ones the cops used from the cop thread (rambler classic?)

I haven't seen any of them for years, unless browsing classifieds or looking at online pics of car shows. Last street driven amc I saw (a hornet) was last seen parked on my street back in the 90s.

*Australian Motor Industries - they locally assembled AMC, leyland/triumph and eventually became a toyota plant?

Good mate of mine... Kevin Murray (old “bulldog” from the VFL) drove one of these as his daily for, I reckon 30 yrs! He was a scaffolder and the thing was always loaded to the hilt... (these were the days where footballers were paid feck all and worked)
He’s also a rabid hoarder so probably still has it...

Cant remember the last time i saw one of these,still running 307 and immaculate.

Not to many of these getting about these days,mother in law still has thing thing,gets driven once a week always on a Friday to pay bills and the grocery run,still goes ok and she sees no reason to update.

Funny isnt it - depends where you roam.
I see a Brougham most days, must be a local owner. And have a friend who owns 2.


And there is a Hillman that is used every day by someone who seems to own or work at a snackbar close by. He parks up first thing each morning and covers his dash with a towel.

Don’t reckon yours would have been a 327.Standard engine in the Brougham was the 307.327 was the standard in the HK GTS Monaro

Back in the early 70's one of my friends mum had a Brougham, same colour, but I don't remember a vinyl roof?
Anyway, she was always complaining about poor economy, we all just said it's a V8, pretty normal.
One day she mentioned that she had filled up again and she had recorded the mileage, I can't remember what it was, but it shocked us at the time.
So began the quest to find where the fuel was going. We did everything we could think of under the bonnet, timing, spark, etc, pulled the carby apart, new filters, even changed the fan belts - all to no avail.
So I wondered if it was how she drove - she was a bit of a ditz...
She was willing to demonstrate, so in we get.
Reversed out the driveway, stopped to put her seatbelt on, put it in drive, then grabbed her handbag and hung in on the gear lever - column shift auto remember - yep, straight into low gear. She drove everywhere in low. Confirmed the ditzy completely. She had recently done a trip Bundaberg to Brissy and back, all in low gear.....
Well after a discussion on where to put her handbag, all went back to normal.
TBH, my friend was pretty clueless as well, he was often a front seat passenger with his mum???

Holden were lazy B's when they tried to take on the Fairlane with the Brougham.. They just made the Boot Longer
Wasn't until the Statesman that they actually made the wheelbase Longer..

Some young guy bought it and crashed it a month later..... It was white with a brown vinyl roof, you could hear it coming from blocks away.

Brother had a white brougham, back in the early eighties. Spent a lot of time and money on it. Mildly enhanced with a decent four barrel carby and dual exhausts.

Had the chrome 12 slotters and looked ok, but handled like a pig. Great in a straight line.

Drove it hard, every day. Panicked when he found metal slivers during an oil change, and sold it quickly.

When i first met my Wife she had this as her car.

Her's was the 1.3L with no A/C and no P/S, TBI injection....bare bone povo pack with massive speedo , temp and fuel gauges. Very small disc brakes in the front used to over-heat regularly if overworked and drums in the rear. Safety...what safety, this is 1995 remember, a big oversized steering wheel is all you got to protect you from the dash.

The thing ran on a smell of an oily rag and never broke down. She never changed the timing belt when it was due...30,000K over and it was just fraying luckily. We slapped a new set of front CV's in at about 150,000 as they were chattering away.

We were stopped at a set of construction lights (two way road, one way a time due to roadwork) and the guy two cars in front ran the red. Suddenly he started reversing back fast and the guy infront of us panicked and did the same...whacked straight into the front of it and wrecked the bumper and front grille and pushed radiator support in.

After it got fixed we sold it to a student cheap in 2007 with about 3 days rego left. He called me saying it passed its pink slip with flying colors.

You never see them around anymore at all....they used to be everywhere back in the 90's.
