Getz was a good little thing, and we had an Echo which was the best little buzz box in 1.3 manual. Seriously good build quality. Have a Yaris fetish even now as a result of this.

The XC (Spanish built Opel) Barina was a cracker.
Handled well, went like a cut cat, and well screwed together........... but be wary, let down by the usual Opel electronic unexplainable gremlins.

Mother in law has an echo. She is a ridiculously gentle and slow driver, presents as nearly new with 220,000kms. Never let her down since buying it at 80000kms. There is just nothing wrong with it.

There’s a reason p plated echos and yarii are parked in front of seemingly every other house near me. They work. My daughters was 22 years old and like most Toyotas never seemed to age mechanically. It was snapped up by an Uber eats delivery driver, who didn’t even want a test drive before committing.

I think that post has been doing the rounds, with some good and bad comments about it all.

I did see a pic with an AU 220 XR8, not sure of the details. Rest to me of not much interest. But on the surface looks to be some VGC cars thats for sure!

Here in Melbourne at least, any Uber-compliant Toyota is still getting silly money, given the wait time for a brand-new equivalent.

Older Camrys & Aurions are still getting good money as well, with no more age limits for taxis here.

The age limits were removed a few years back when Uber was legalised & the taxi industry was deregulated.

Anyone with a 16 year old Camry, or B-Series Wagon can buy a taxi meter & in-car camera, and set themselves up as a taxi driver after paying a couple of hundred bucks for a set of taxi plates.....

The government spent 8 figures on compensation, which I have an issue with, we don't compensate you at the roulette table, or on the dogs and horses, so why are we compensating gamblers on taxi plates?

I used a combination of uber and taxis in Sydney earlier this year, Uber is certainly better quality vehicles and cheaper.

The only time I use taxis is when I walk out the hotel and there's already one waiting there or there's surge pricing on Uber, but now taxis in Melbourne can set fixed rates as well, so when there's events on in town you cop surge pricing on Uber and then massively inflated rates on taxis too.

You're no expert on the taxi industry maybe do some research. Taxis were not a speculative asset, they were basically a blue chip / established investment, which were screwed over by digital disruption which started illegally. There were a lot of people who got absolutely smashed by this financially and there were even suicides (as mentioned in your linked article). If you don't know what you're talking about maybe don't offer the input. There are even members on this forum that were screwed out of their retirements because of rideshare.

I'm not sure what happened in Victoria, but in NSW, the Govt, which had been treating taxi plate owners badly for years, abandoned them overnight & let the likes of Uber et al take over.

My cousin who use to be a London cabby, hated Uber, there was/is massive concern over Uber in the UK.
