They're the P-Platers weapon of choice around here, a good one in the future may hold some value as a nostalgia piece to these kids. I'm seeing them from 10-15k at the moment.

Watching XR4's listed at 5k and taking a while to sell, might be time to pick up a track day beater me thinks

Back in my day when I bought my LV TDCI Focus the XR5 was on the banned list for P platers

Thats the only reason I bought the TDCI instead

Bastards! The kids these days have it easy!

Theres a P plater working at my local Maccas with the hero colour XR5 in orange and there's two locally in white near my work.

Also don't forget that no one is going off backpacking or taking Gap Years, or going off to London to work for 'The Duration'. So not only do you have expats returning in droves, you also have people who would normally have spent up to a few years travelling or working overseas having to stay here for now.

Have just sold my FG2 XR6 for 3K more than what I paid for it 18 months back. Had the usual lowballers & timewasters who wanted something for less than $12K, but unblemished, but the eventual buyer was realistic, and had seen some Dogs....

Sadly it looks like if you want a reasonably priced full-size car that's reliable & cheap to run, then a Camry might be your only option - but even those are still bringing good prices.

Have also heard that it's a 3 week wait to get a car registered a Vic Roads, even for the Country offices where you can normally snag a short-notice appointment.

He's in WA. They don't have these restrictions.

They are still banned in the nanny state. I have noticed a lot of P platers getting around in banned P plater vehicles lately though. Seen a Golf R, GTI, G6E Turbo and VE SS with P plates on recently. Obviously don't give a damn.

I got my P's 3 months before they rolled out the bans on turbo petrols, high performance 6's and v8s and modified cars. So whilst my mates were stuck in v6 commodores and sss pulsars, i was able to do the v8 thing. Namely an hsv 304 efi swapped kingswood ute and a 308 swapped uc torana. Plus the alcho booze limit for a P plater for me was not 0. It was 0.02. Yeah i used to get pulled up all the time having p plates on a v8 for licence checks and they always did breathos, but i never lost a point. But i had a mate who got tboned in his subaru leone. He blew 0.0016 and ended up with a court ordered 7 year $55k loan to pay for the forester xt that hit him. And a driving ban.

Here's a very similar, clean little VSIII ute to the one just up on this thread:

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/clay...ity/1268720316

Sure it looks shinier, but 13,900 as opposed to around 3,209?!

It's got 212K on the clock as opposed to 238K, but no bar or canopy - will someone pay the price?

Looked at a 2018 Ford Escape st line with 30k on it for 32k + on roads. Then went and had a look at a brand new Escape for $36668 drive away.

Add stamp duty and rego to the used one and its $34k vs $36668 for new. Different model levels but the new one is specced every bit as well.

Who in their right mind would buy the used one, yet the used dealer wouldn't budge on price. When he rang the next day to pester me further I gladly informed him we'd bought new. He asked on the wait time and I said I'd found a dealer with one in stock. He was quite surprised.

I think the used guys are very much aware of the supply issues with new cars and hoping that people won't want to endure the wait times to order a new one.

They are hit and miss.

Some high kms.
Others low.
I'm aware of one where a dude will be asking 26k.

30k odd kms
Leather.
I know I'd rather an XR5 than an ST.
Sadly they are now in the grasp of a p plater fitting stupid crackle maps to them.

I definitely miss mine

Not being biased.
But various turbo falcons seem to be sort after too now for some reason.

Yeah, same here XR5 is unique compared to the others.

I notice Mondeo XR5 is significantly cheaper, as in to the tune of $5000, I guess if you want the same engine but don't mind the extra car you get for less money that's a good option, plus more likely to be owned/driven by stale old man.

There's some other interesting JDM stuff that's now poor value - JZS161 Toyota Aristo is circa $20K-$25K which are up $7K-$10K on 2019 prices.

That particular car, you'd be better off buying a BA-BF XR6T which is better value because you get the Barra turbo instead of the 2JZGTE, an extra 1000cc and already has a single turbo instead of the compound twins.

Might just be luck but I have noticed a lot of information on I5T head gaskets? Not sure if owners are winding them up to far?

Papier-mâché rods, head gaskets and open deck block dramas once you go to bigger turbo and supporting mods to go circa 300KW/wheels mark.

I don't think it would be too much of a problem with just the typical intake, exhaust, intercooler and tune which puts them around that 160-170KW at the fronts point - that factory turbo Borgwarner K03/K04 is used across a couple of other Ford Ecoboost engines, it's a bit small but that's why it has peak torque at 1500 RPM and power tops out at 5500 RPM.

To put it into perspective it makes the same torque as my diesel Focus in stock trim but 500RPM earlier, holds it for much longer and is up 60KW to boot too - it's a pretty sweet setup that 2.5L Volvo engine.

Colleague at work has a modified Volvo 850R wagon and it will blaze the fronts like no one's business

Not seen many if any 300fwkw 5 cylinder turbos.

I think the bigger issue is split liners in these engines.

Mine was modded but not heavily and was circa 170fwkw (front wheel kW)

I thought Police pack on EF/L was Opt20, my old EF XR6 was Opt20 and it was ex NSW HWY patrol.
It was looking up what Opt20 meant that brought me to this forum 15yrs ago.

A week ago heres me complaining about high kays xh utes that are roached going for silly $. Not 40k, but in the 7k realm. Hence why i bought the au. But due to the floods and hence flooded out cars, i reckon due to tradies needing comercial vehicles for their lively hoods and needing comercial vehicles sooner rather then later, second hand comercial vehicle prices i reckon will go up. Or at least not go down. And due to lead time for insurance payouts etc, the cheap and cheerful for the time being sort of utes and such will be a sellers dream.

Surely that XH didn't get anywhere near $40k lol. My goodness.

I am hazarding a guess with some of the 3999 cars that there would be some production defect in paint or panel, or interior items, that wouldn't pass PD. So, Ford took those cars for themselves, as when it came to second hand sale it wouldn't be questioned. I currently have a 2014 FG Mk2, which has a chemical reaction under the paint on RHR door. I reckon this is the reason it was a 3999 car.

The XH panno didn’t go for 39, but a few K lower..... still a huge amount in my opinion, however where are you going to find another. I know someone who knows someone, so my source is accurate.

XH’s (like everything) are only going up in value; snap good ones up when you can I say! I’ll have my XH2 S pack V8 on the road soon.. can’t wait.

The fringe markets continue to soften, good choice of G220 Fairlanes at present, some project ZL (ish) cars at much saner prices and even a ZD that could scrub up in the right hands.

Think that searching the more stale adverts from Penrith through East Richmond in NSW might now turn up a few “projects” with some drying-out to be done. There are more and newer completely uninsured cars in the Sydney basin than many realise, happy pickings for people with time and coin.

Hey All

Just reigniting this thread. I have purchased 2 vehicles over the last 3 months, 135000km 2012 Nissan Navara and a 2003 BA XR8, with the falcon only weeks ago.

Used Car prices are up from when I bought the Nissan, and the question is, have we hit the plateau? I'd really like to see the final sell price as opposed to the advertised prices, but if you take it at face value, any ford or holden v8 has increased in value...now whether this is sutainable? I think the jury's still out on this.

P/S - love my BA as the daily
