Most of the parts are missing, but at least you saved the body and it could make a good orniment.

Doesn't look that bad Barnaby..although you never really know until you get up close. I saw an XB Falc on the back of a trailer on the Western Ring Rd the other week where about 4 inches of every panel from the bottom up was gone..half the bonnet was gone, looked like a piece of bread that had been half eaten. That was well and truly dead.

Its bad...it will take a monumental effort to bring it back, even in highly modified form. You never know....

Leave the body, just make it safe. Stick a new chassis under it with a flathead, new suspension and make an awesome rat-rod!

I was parked in the Ipswich Barn (River Link), a week or so ago and found:

Here’s a barn-find story that may be of interest (or it might sound like a Grandpa Simpson rave).
In the early eighties I was living in a Qld mining camp and had a kombi (hotted-up- could do wheelstands) and a yammy 750 in the carpark. One night I was reading “Custom Rodder” (an extinct aussie mag) in which there was an advert for an XM coupe for sale. The mag was a few months old so the car was probably sold, but I tried a call anyway. Yep- sold. The guy had bought two black / red interior XM coupes from a farm and had advertised one of them. He mentioned that there were also two XP coupes there and gave me the contact details. I rang the number and they were still there and unwanted, so I checked them out. The farmer was Mr (surname) and he had a cane farm on (same surname) Road south of Ayr. Went out to the ‘shed’. It was huge – you could have hidden a couple of zeppelins in one corner. Inside were a pair of Ranchwagons, one auto, the other converted to manual using a Chev truck gearbox. There were two white / red interior coupes there – one (170 cid, 3-speed auto, discs and 14” wheels) had been used by his daughter to go to uni and the other (200 cid auto) was for spares. Both pretty good, both unreg. Paid 200 bucks for the two. He tossed in a battery out of a tractor, fired the first one up, drove it 200 km back to the camp. Got a roadworthy in the mail from a mate in the trade and rego’d it. Got a guy to paint it (didn’t need it though really, but found the usual cracks under the ‘C’ pillars) in exchange for the other one. Bought a gold XR Fairmont (289 / C4) for 100 bucks for the drivetrain, but couldn’t put it in as the penalty for vehicle mods under the jackboot of Joh Bjelke-Petersen was death plus hard labour. Stuck the retrimmed XR buckets and console in the XP and drove it for a while. Then a crazy guy told me about his uncles Mustang convertible for sale. It turned out to be a mint XM coupe – metallic green, 170, 2-speed auto, $700 registered. Put a 250 2V / C4 in it. Then I bought (too much money, not enough brains) an XY ute that had had an XW GT (W) manual drivetrain, front clip, dash, and interior installed. 2 grand. Motor was rebuilt and balanced – very nice. Carpark getting a bit full by now, and I had a 302W in bits under the bed too. And another kombi. Then I decided to be a hippy for a while and sold the lot. Ute – 1700 bucks, XP – 300 bucks, XM – 200 bucks. A bikie bought the XM and was taking the weekend’s empties to the tip a few days later was offered $900 for it on the spot. Where are they now I wonder ? |

And another one - few months ago a dual-cab ute with 'CO' (Collie) plates was towing a car trailer through Donnybrook WA.
On the trailer was a light metallic blue / tan vinyl roof XA Fairmont coupe 302 with 'BSN' (Busselton) plates. Looked like it hadn't been rego'd for a while and looked like it was in very good nick too. |

Not a barn find as such but what is it with farmers and leaving cars to rot?
My parents owned a general store in a small town nth of Melb and we would get some supplys from up Lancefield way. This farmer had no joke 30 cars laying about in the paddock, Vals, Kingswoods, Fords you name it. I always loved going for the drive to I could ponder about while my Dad brought stuff. Ive driven past a few times since but never thought to stop in and say hello. Now that my classic knowledge is better I should...could be worth while!

There are a few coupe's floating here around Busso. A beautiful gold XA with a middle grille spotty. And a nice green one. Not sure if it's a Falcon, Fairmont or Landau though.

I feel your pain brother - it must have been in a shed that you've driven past a thousand times.
But if we DO steal it - whoever falls asleep first loses ! |

And the little old lady sold that mint Fairmont coupe for $200.
And patted the buyer's hand. And fed him delicious scones. And has the only pre-production prototype phase 5 coupe as well. And will put him in her will. Oh the pain. (insert winky face here) Last edited by shedcoupe; 08-04-2011 at 10:33 PM. |
