Hope you all dont mind the random pictures but I know how everyone loves piccies. I think any tyre and rim will work its just finding the right package. This car is perfect to me as well, 295s on autodrags

Now I dont want to be giving Phil a big head But this pic pretty much does it for me. Love that rear set up with the big gum balled wrapped tyre.

Just thought I'd ask again because ive gone off track, but does anyone know whether you can get spacers that will fit these old Fords. Thanks.

You can get wheel spacers from most auto part shops in a couple of sizes.
Which will push the wheel out closer to the guard.
Most coupe owners try to bring the wheel in closer to the spring so they dont have scraping issues.
5" back space is the prefered offset to fit 295s on a 10" rim.

i assume you mean spacers to push the wheel out and make it look wider. these are illegal because you end up with less thread to screw the nut onto. i am not sure about the legalities if you get longer studs, but i believe spacers in any form are illegal

Thanks for the comments. Might just put that idea to rest. Not real happy with what it looks like at the moment. But will put more research into it when the new wheels come. Thanks.

I finally scored a pair of Mickey Thompson N-50-15s.
Thought I would post some pics in here so you all can see how wide you can go with the right offset.

Here is a comparison of a Mickey Thompson and a 295/50/15 BFG T/A.

Side View, I like the stance.

Right Rear

Left Rear

They are 10" rims. You can go 12" with these tyres, But I think you will be stretching the friendship between the tyre and rear quater.

Nothing that a bottle jack and a couple of bits of 4x2 couldnt fix

Nah Not really, I had the offset changed on my rims so they would fit.

Now to get the front end sorted.
Picked up some K-Mac Camber bolts today.
Will fit them tomorrow and get a wheel alignment.
Should be sweet for cruising

Just be careful in the wet Jack, I had MT Indy's on my first coupe, she was like a dog on wet lino flooring once it rained

I'm slowly making my way through this thread but I can't see too many photos of coupes with 12" rims to the rear. Do you have any photos of 12" rims on a car? I've currently got 295/50/R15 on 15x10" rears w/ 5" backspace (tried & tested coupe size/ backspace), but what do 12" look like? Do they look too wide?

I believe that fatasslandau has 12's on his coupe. If you do a search on his posts, you should be able to find some pics

No such thing as too wide is there except maybe if the tyres rub together under the centre of the car, then i guess you are probably stretching the friendship

Thanks Col - I've seen his car in Street Fords magazine. From memory they are a globe style rim? I'll dig out the issue to have a look as I can't find many pictures of it on here. I'm only interested in how the 12" rears look as there is a set I'm looking at. Its always a risk with such a wide rim due to offsets etc & for some reason every car can be slightly different, even if its the same model. What works on one car may just not look good on another.

Agreed - that would be too wide (unless thats the look you're after). Alternatively too wide is a flash back to the 70's Speedway coupes. Tyres protruding 5" outside the face of the front & rear guards don't really do anything for me - even if they were wide rims!

This would be fine for me; Centerline Auto Drag rims 15 X 10 at the rear and 15 X 5 up front.

Hi, I'm looking at these wheels

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...#ht_500wt_1156

Will they fit on my XA, or do I need to be on the look out for 15x10s with a 5inch backspace?

Hey Mate
Great looking wheel (and also very cheap at the moment!!!!) but I was under the impression that you need a 5 inch backspace as well :(
That is what the guy told me when I purchased my Simmons

correct my good man ,altho you can fit these wheels ,but forget about fat rubber because it will hit the out side wheel arch: (i have a set of Sampsons that were used on race coupes in the 70s & they have a 5 1/4 inch back space
