Crisis here in Rockhampton, No power, No communications (just getting a bit here and there, hence why I'm here for now!)
Only One petrol station open Friday / Saturday for a radius of 100kms with over 100000 people within. a couple more open today with generators.
34 degrees here today with big humidity, I reckon I would be more comfortable at Manus Island.

If people enacted there cyclone plans they would all have a tank full of fuel, a cupboard full of food and a bath full of drinking water.

I feel sorry for the people that lost there houses or had belongings damaged, but i wont stand for people that think, "she'll be right".

Fuel issues here were for generators. Rockhampton for the last couple of nights was a giant campground of over 50000 people in pitch darkness in most areas. Some lucky ones & doomsdays are prepared. Generator sales are on the up and can't keep the stock up. There is a lot of stories out of this to come. I have to save power.

And no water in some areas due to no power to pumping stations to the reservoirs.
some normality is coming back atm I still have no power, more than half the city does. need to be patient. this all reminds me of the good ol days of the 70s growing up as a kid. hot days and nights and no cooling. we all become too adjusted to the modern comforts we have. any way continuing on with the unplanned camping holiday and cleaning up.
Some stories I have heard to remain on topic, some fuel operators jacking up fuel prices during the peak demand

Ye I have noticed that. Surey ULP should be back to $1.00 per litre again if barrel price is so low.

Why are they getting away with not lowering pump prices yet?

This thread had gone quiet as the price of crude this year approached $60 per barrel. With the Greek problem in the EU and the Chinese stock market crash, the price of crude oil is beginning to drop again.

China is tanking and as such, crude is yet to bottom out in price. Will we see this reflected at the pumps, oh look a flying pig!

I reckon it could drop to $10 a barrel and the AU$ could be $2.00 to the US$ and it still wouldn't hit $1.00 a lt here.

The ACCC is doing their job, just the other week I saw that they are thinking of taking a pharmaceutical company to court for incorrect labelling.

One packet labelled Paracetamol, another labelled for Back Ache, but apparently it contains the same product!

(Much easier than tackling major oil companies with well paid Barristers and PR staff)

Hey Syndrome, looks like you are following the price action closely, take the '86 lows, '08 highs then put Fibonnaci lines on it, run from recent 42ish lows to 62ish and beaten down again is a move between the 38.2% and 23.6% retracements, just sayin

whole concept may interest you

$1.27 per litre 91 ethanol on northern part of Central Coast (Wyong) not bad.

Have wondered for some time as to who actually sets the price at the servo ?
They often vary between servos, even the same retailer only a few klm apart !

Many people are outraged at the price of fuel, but if you compare fuel to beer price in the 80s compared to now , fuel isn't doing to badly.

More of a concern now is the limited storage/fuel on hand here in most states.....
If that tanker from Singapore is a week late we will have run out already

Does anyone think that BP Ultimate at 19c/l more then 91 is a big rip off?

Maybe ....

What most people don't realise (from what ive been led to believe) is that the independents just add ethanol to bring the octane up to 98, and doesn't include all the little extra bits, additives/lubricants that the Major suppliers do.
(pls correct me if I am wrong, but I did get told by a manager within a major importing brand)

So, if you buy BP 98 at 19 cents more GREAT.
Question is,
If you buy 98 from an independent for 17 cents more, are you really getting what is good for your car

Some family own an independent servo (Liberty) and they just buy fuel off Caltex.
