The beacons were on its just a very well timed photo that got it between it's flash pattern.

When there's a breakdown the incident response team turns up pretty quickly, it goes up on the overhead boards and they close the two lanes closest to where it's stopped - it was inbound on Tullamarine Freeway near Brunswick road exit.

It could have been a breakdown, maybe they had the beacons on to raise awareness? It'd be a first that I've seen if it was usually it's just the incident response team in their trucks with the orange beacons, I'm not sure but look how close they are to the left lane of the freeway and the van in front of us.
The fact is it appears there is no breakdown van there and the police car got there first to protect the red car and therefore its occupants. It would be pretty scary for the persons inside that car if the police car wasn't there, so the police are doing their job well to help protect them until the breakdown vehicle does turn up. Note also the police car is angled so if the RH rear corner is clipped, it wont be pushed straight into the red car. The only criticism I have is the van in front of you is too close to the line and should have given more space for those in the emergency stop lane. Your driver looks as though he/she? has given more space. People forget they are emergency stop lanes, not to be driven in at all unless they are emergency vehicles, then only at 40kph maximum.

Here's the non edited pic - perspective.

Tells more of the story about the van in front too - dick move he should have moved over.

Of course the fact that the red car is carrying QLD number plates might have had Mr Plod wondering why the car was so far away from home?

Probably a hire vehicle, perhaps. They get around a bit.

Cheers

This was always going to happen, it's standard procedure for any transport company that has a heavy vehicle involved in a major or fatal collision.
Note that the term "raided" is used by the media whereas the police tend to call it a search. I'm only surprised that it took this long.

One implies doors being smashed in by people in balaclavas and high powered rifles with multiple black helicopters everywhere and the other implies they came by for a chat and looked around.

Dropping by for a chat and looking around doesn't sell papers

Had another truck driver tailgating me on the Freeway last night while I was doing the speed limit and overtaking cars in the left lane. First time I had Ben to the office in six weeks. Just reinforces my opinion that truck drivers are just unprofessional cowboys at best. I hope the truck driver involved in the Eastern Fwy is locked up and the key thrown away.

Driving my truck today I had several car drivers tailgating me, while I was doing the speed limit.
Some of these car drivers should be locked up as they didn't look like they were out working.

Thanks for proving my point about truck drivers being unprofessional cowboys. What damage would a car do to your truck if it it you? If I had to have braked heavily I would have ended up with a B-double in my rear passenger seat if I was lucky. Your attitude is typical of what I see from truck drivers who never seem cabable of taking responsibility for their own actions. It allways seems to be someone elses fault.

How was the point proved? Maybe I missed some details, as I didn't make that connection? Seems to me like there's just a lot of randoms on the road, in trucks and cars.

What type of car do you drive?
What tyre pressure do you run?
Have you had your speedo calibrated?
Daddy issues?

All those points are irrelevant. It does not matter what speed the vehicle in front is driving you should always travel at a safe distance. Try again.

So would the tailgating car cause much damage to the truck as a truck would to a car? Basic physics tells me no it would not.

Mate, I'd be more worried about the mental state of a car-driver tail-gating a truck than vice versa!
I don't condone tailgating by anyone, but at least the truck has a view of the road ahead.
It's a pity a lot of courtesy has disappeared from our roads.

Not much damage to the truck, but the damage to the front of the car may cause it to be written off, cos tailgating.

so its ok for cars to tailgate trucks?

also, had you braked for an obvious reason, you would no doubt have found the the B double had already started braking before you were even aware of the reason.

also, (and this is probably not always the case) when you look in the rear view mirror, a truck can appear like it is quite close, but in reality it is further back than you realise. Its just the way viewing angles work.

I'm not a truck apologist but just against people who see the need to tar the whole group because of the actions of a few. Given you mention you own a 'big aussie 6' .... I saw a big aussie 6 driver run a red light today, so therefore you must run red lights

Far out trucks drivers are far more regulated than ordinary drivers.

Every time there is an accident such as this the scrutiny is enormous(and it should be but it should also be fair) and we quickly forget all the dumb ****s running around everyday killing far more people than the odd truckie.

The only real difference between the two is with the massive amount of energy of a moving truck it has much bigger potential to turn out bad if they make a mistake or are stupid.

Unfortunately you have tools like Turbo on Outback Truckers who get the drivers a bad name.
