For anyone struggling, try and use e-cigs. It really helps because it doesnt feel like you are missing out on the fun things of smoking and after a couple of weeks you will have less and less cravings and will not even need the e-cigs anymore

I won't read all 10 pages but want to offer the lollipop method. Buy some Chupa Chups and have one every time you feel the need to smoke. A friend's father did it and it worked.

Still going strong after 50 days. Hope the other quitters have also stayed of the darts. Only down side is I am always feeling hoarse as the lungs start to clean themselves.

January last year my Son (aged 13 then) randomly started the following conversation with me:
Tom: "Dad, can I see your cigarettes please?" Me: "Ok......, why?" Tom: "You'll see" He then walked into the kitchen, put them in the bin and said "you don't need them". I had started to lose my desire to smoke before that night, and apart from some mild cravings during the first weeks, I have remained a non smoker. When their Mother was around I found quitting difficult, I stopped then would cop an earful because I wouldn't sit outside and keep her company while she puffed away. Anyway that problem (the wife) went away in 2014 however I was still smoking with coffee & after dinner until Jan 2015. So in summing up, anyone who has recently quit - well done and remember: Nobody needed cigarettes before they smoked their first, and the truth is, nobody ever "needs" them. Your kids, your body and your wallet will forever be grateful! |

My Aunty recently quite cold turkey.....but she's now terminal with months to live. She left it too late despite her mothers close call! Perhaps some cold hard facts/stories/pics and research will help your brain accept it as the ONLY way forward! Sorry to hear, hope all goes well! |

Pack of 20 Winnie blues sets you back $22 -$25, not $35.

It is nothing more than clever marketing by big business to take even more money from your pocket. In most cases it is not the nicotine, but the habit that is developed over many years that is harder to break, when you stop smoking, one of the first things you will notice without even thinking about it is your habits, you will move to grab a packet of smokes, move the ashtray, after a meal, or a beer etc. look for a smoke, all on autopilot. If you do some research you can see that chewable vitamin C and clean cool water will help take away the cravings and flush the system, so grab a bottle of cenovis chewable vit C and chew 3 or 4 every time you have craving and swallow down a big glass of water. In addition to this is more the habit, so to cure this have a bag of lolly snakes on standby and grab a lolly snake after your Vit C and water, this will keep your hands and mouth busy ( twirling and stretching, chewing and nibbling) during the craving, then a few minutes later your good to go again. /\ without addressing the habit part, it is where most patches and gums sprays etc. anything all falls down. (gum a little but leaves out the hands) After about 3 days of this (vit c, water, snakes) you should be fine and over the worst of it, with no need for patches or potions. So if people want to stop, buy some Vit C, Water, and lolly snakes and give it a go, and yes you must want to do it. |

I stopped for 10 years (2 patches then to 11/2 then 1 then 1/2) and started again about 3 years ago, mucking around with patches at the moment. Just need to commit, choose a date, tell everyone that date, put em on first thing in the morning and keep busy. It isn't easy with other smokers in the house, being a qualified nicotine cessation counsellor doesn't give you any advantage either............. I found "I quit" was the best response to any smoking related conversation, not I'm stopping (in the process, which means you might still have one), or giving up (same). "I quit" tells yourself and others it's over. |

That is the problem - once a smoker always a smoker. Was off then 9 years before I stupidly took up the habit again.

With the bungers my head told me things didn't get so bad so I'll be ok, in reality they did, I just minimised coughing up crap all the time, thing is though once you get the big c, no guarantees of anything. There's a thought. |

Buy a pack of durries, open them up, hose them down with water. They won't light up then. Can't smoke them.

I went on holidays to the Philippines a few weeks ago, and at around $1.15 a pack I couldn't resist smoking Luckies, Marlborough and Winstons while I was there. But I'll be buggered if I pay $20-$30 per pack here in Australia, so I'll give up until I go back again.

I used the substitution method. Chucked the packet away. Then every time I felt like durries, I drank water.

I used the good old Cold Turkey & Willpower method and didn't feel the need to tell every Tom, Dick & Harry i was quitting, not even the wife, just did it and am due to celebrate in June my 23rd year off the ciggies...But, i always remained conscience of ever being only one ciggie away of being a smoker again.

27 years for me. And happily, I never find this happens to me. In fact, I can't even imagine voluntarily sucking stinking smoke into my lungs now—there's already enough **** in the air we breath. I read somewhere that spending a day outdoors in one of our capital cities is the equivalent of smoking 5 cigarettes. (Which sounds like bull**** to me.)

16 years since my last coffin nail and absolutely no desire to smoke. In fact, just the smell of tobacco is enough to make me want to leave the room or go up wind. Being a taxi driver these days, whenever a smoker gets in to the van I need to crack the window and crank up the a/c to push the smell out the passenger window. But I promised myself I wasn't going to be one of those born again non smokers who badger the smokers to quit so I just keep my mouth shut and take a step back or crack a window so I can breath clean air.

I'm in a similar situation at work, I drive a bus and even if a passenger boards and sits up the back, the AC evenly distributes the smell throughout the bus. Usually I close my vents and slide my window open until they get off. Outdoors the smell doesn't bother me, just in enclosed areas. When I smoked I was strictly an outdoor smoker, not inside or in the car. |

That time of year again smokers. I am please to report tomorrow will be one year since I stopped smoking.
The positives - dry cough has gone - mouth does not have that constant awful taste - saved at least $4000 The negatives - put on about 10kgs - was constipated for the first part of the year as the body had to learn to regulate bowl movements without external stimulants Worth the effort. Don't give up trying to give up.
