Job opportunity!

Testing sewage in Australian suburbs would be a cheap and easy way for health authorities to pin down localised outbreaks of coronavirus, the national science agency says.

And NZ now has another import of Covid, turns out testing was optional at the border and in isolation, yet Govt have been banging on how important testing is for all of us, but they have'nt practiced what they preach. Had two women let out to basically roam the North Island out of isolation no test, plus two fourteen year olds let out of isolation no test to attend a Mongrol mob funeral , these two did a runner. For want of a better word this has turned into a Cluster **** for Govt who are back pedalling and holding no one accountable.

21 new cases for Australia (mostly Victoria) and no deaths so CMR drops to 1.380% but active cases rise to 412 (5.6%).

1 new case and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.460% and active cases at 2.

The UK had 1,218 new cases and 135 deaths so the CMR is down to 14.074%.

Just under 26k new cases in the USA yesterday and 809 deaths sees CMR down to 5.368% and active cases down to 53.5% although the raw numbers are rising again.

Other notable points:
Chile reported an additional 31,422 cases that had been missed;
Canada passes 100k cases;
North America passes 150k deaths;
Asia recorded a new daily high for new cases with 42,069;

Palestine (45), Mauritania (201), Kenya (213), Guatemala (545), Nepal (671), Nigeria (745), Ukraine (829), Indonesia (1,331)and India (13,827) all recorded new daily highs, those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

i feel there needs to be more clarification on these types of announcements (not you Russ, just in general media). Without looking further in to it, it can appear that Victoria are struggling to get on top of the situation, but the reality is, a large portion of these cases are returning travellers from overseas. Some are already confirmed cases even. The fact is, the bulk of international travellers land at either sydney or melbourne and any cases among these people simply get assigned to the state they land in. There is no risk associated with them as they are straight in to quarantine. These details tend to get left out and the media just love to make it sound like there is still a regular occurance of daily new cases. While there are still some cases from community transmission it sounds a lot more dramatic if all the imports get included in the headlines.

All it does is prolong the decisions to open the internal borders back up.

I was going to say the same thing. Most of the new cases are imported.

I wonder how strictly they are enforcing the quarantines of these confirmed cases they are letting into the country? Or are they expecting them to self regulate?

kind of funny seeing all the premiers around the country all throwing barbs at each other over the border issues. its like its now some competition rather than the good of the country as a whole.

Are you sure about that? I remember in the first month or so, people who where supposed to be in isolation after testing positive were roaming all around town.

There is mandatory hotel quarantine for all incoming people for 14 days. It has been this way for a long time.

Initially there was a requirement for self isolation, which was also enforced by random checks, but this was not sufficient.

But hotel quarantine is not completely safe. There is a cluster in Melbourne caused by one of the workers at Rydges becoming infected.

Limited crowds of 1-2k back next month for the Raiders and Brumbies back to back games.

If no issues then they will go to the 25% of capacity cap.

I won't be surprised if the first game for the Raiders without restrictions is a record crowd. Though that may not even be this season.

Dunno if it's been mentioned, but as the news/politics has been so toxic around the world I've been spacing out off in the famous incidents of computer gaming. There's some funny stuff there. This event was legendary - the Corrupted Blood Plague of World of Warcraft:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFMv_hqinvc

Programming oversight. Deadly pathogen. Unintentional breach of containment. Asymptomatic carriers. Isolation attempts, quarantine attempts. People running for the hills, or swimming to far off islands. Suspicion of others. Trolls spreading it. Cities desolated. Millions of deaths with skeletons piling up.

Here's some raw footage of the plague:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAEhyHiNdrA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS8IKiSIfhw

And this guy claims to have unleashed patient zero, after about 10 seconds of moral contemplation:

Victorian coronavirus restrictions tightening as cases continue to increase

Quote:
Victoria will bring back tougher coronavirus restrictions, limiting gatherings in homes to five people from Monday, in a bid to address a recent increase in case numbers.

Premier Daniel Andrews said today's case numbers were the highest they had been in two months, with 25 new cases identified overnight.

Mr Andrews has also deferred plans to allow more patrons in restaurants, and flagged the possibility of even tougher lockdowns being introduced in the hardest hit areas over the coming days.

"Since April … half of all of our new cases have come from family-to-family transmission," Mr Andrews said.

"I'm frustrated by it. I'm disappointed by it.

"Unless we can break this cycle … then we are going to see more and more of these cases."

Coronavirus update: Follow all the latest news in our daily wrap.
Mr Andrews said there had been instances of people gathering in large numbers at the homes of family and friends, even though they had been told to self-isolate.

"We have even had people who had tested positive and have been told to go home and isolate and instead they have gone to work, instead they have gone and visited loved ones in large numbers," he said.

"It is pretty clear that behind closed doors when one family comes together in large numbers … they are not practicing social distancing."

The changes will come into place from 11:59pm on Sunday and will limit the number of visitors allowed in a home to five.

People will still be able to meet in groups of up to 10 people outdoors.

The Victorian Government will also delay planned changes to restrictions on businesses and community facilities.

Restaurants, pubs, auction halls, community centres, libraries, museums and places of worship will maintain their 20-person limits until at least July 12.

The Government had been set to increase patron limits inside those venues to 50 people from Monday but that has now been delayed by at least three weeks.

"Three weeks of course being the full lifecycle of this virus where we think that we get the best and clearest picture of exactly what's going on out in the community," Mr Andrews said.

Businesses that were set to open for the first time on Monday, including gyms, cinemas, theatres and TABs can still do so, but with a maximum of 20 people.

Community sport for children and non-contact competition for adults will proceed as planned.

Ski season and accommodation facilities with communal spaces will also open, but with increased screening and safeguards in place.

Hardship fund announced for workers without sick leave
Mr Andrews announced the Government would establish a Hardship Fund for people who cannot go to work because they have tested positive to coronavirus or are told to self-isolate because they are a close contact of someone who has.

They will be eligible for a $1,500 payment if they do not have access to paid leave.

"It is, I think, clear that there are some people in the community that perhaps don't have access to sick leave, for instance," Mr Andrews said.

"Their employment may well be tenuous.

"It is our view that we have to try and remove that barrier where people are, sadly, making the choice that public health is less important than the welfare and survival, in a financial sense, of their family.

"They're wrong to make that judgement but I can appreciate that that is a judgement that is being made."

Victoria flags possible return to lockdowns in hard-hit suburbs
Mr Andrews said he would not rule out the possibility of hotspots — either suburbs or local government areas — becoming the subject of strict lockdowns.

"It may be the case in the days ahead ... where we have seen the data tells us a very clear story that there are extra cases and the highest number of cases, we may need to, for instance, reinstitute the stay at home except for the four reasons," he said.

"We all remember that time, it was deeply frustrating but it was very effective.

"We may need to go back to that setting in given geographical areas."

The four reasons included shopping for food and supplies, care and caregiving, exercise, and study or work if it could not be done from home.

More to come.

Went to the local Maccas for lunch. They have half the place closed to diners.

The other half is all marked where you can and can't sit.

Signs all over the place about keeping 1.5m apart. Yeah thats fine but why close off half the restaurant? There were 4 tables in a row next to 3 more tables all closed off.

Surly they could have opened up a few more seats?

Is there a number limit at the moment per place or are they now doing it per sqm?

My mum took my daughter to Maccas this afternoon. She said they would only allow 3 people to sit and eat in the entire store. They had everyone outside.

Someone asked why only 3 - the Macacs worker said they are only allowed 20 and they have 17 staff working.

Since when were staff considered in the amount of people allowed? This can't be right??

Oh... and another thing. They make you sign in via a QR code or whatever you call it.

This information seems to get sent to a handheld tablet looking device that is accessible to all staff. I overheard two 15 year olds arguing over who was going to confront the guy that had obviously entered dodgy personal information about themselves when they signed in.

There were 10 of those delivery bike riders sitting on the grass verge right outside Maccas - all rubbing against each other, leaning against each other, watching rubbish on their phones together.

But I can't sit at a table by myself within the store...

I can't wait for all this BS to be over.

Its effected AFL now with one of the Essendon players testing positive.

One family spread a couple of cases among itself.

I wonder what the actual rate is of infections in the community - there would be people with it who haven't been tested.

Has anyone here been tested? I have and I copped absolute **** for it from work, this was when you needed to have symptoms to be tested.

Forget closing the borders how about closing all the roads in and out of Melbourne so they aren't coming out into country Victoria.

Yep, many regions are free of it, keep them safe.

Within Melbourne, locking down infected areas & testing heaps is how it has been overcome in other countries, eg China, Italy, South Korea.

I bet you are happy you live outside the city now Franco...

Straya. If you had 2 neighbors identical blocks, identical houses and one painted their front door blue and next door painted it green they'd bait each other over the colour of the front doors.
