Had a bit of very light drizzle on and off all day here. Noticed that the drizzle had formed beads on the limes that are growing on the dwarf lime tree. Even looked like it had been staged.

Ol "Boof" the sable one smelt like pottery during the day but farted like a cow at night, The cactus really helped to musk it. Little "Blackdog" smelt like the sea all the time.

These where originally owned by Hamersley Iron and first used in Tom Price, but due to the tight radius of the corners on the Haul roads they were twisting their chassis pretty bad. HI and BHP did a deal and BHP took them over, there was no road between Tom Price and Newman at the time so a fleet of D10 Dozers, Cat Scrapers and Graders bulldozed and levelled a track from Tom Price to Newman while the Trucks followed, took about 2 weeks if i remember. Not a bad truck to operate but you could really hear them racking in the tight turns for sure, oh.....and after a good down pour you could drift them on the downhill bends, there wasn’t a lot of road left when one these things was sliding around and it wasn’t a pleasant experience for light vehicles coming the other way, I seen it from both positions and been in the truck was definitely the best place to be ^^^^^ this was before HSE was invented, or probably the reason for it

I was in Tom Price for 6 years mid 90's, working for Barclay Mowlem, I did fit the telemetrics to the (HI) fleet.
I seen the burned out wreck of a haul pack that fell 3 - 4 benches, lucky the cab came off on the first bench, two people in there (training, wet slippery road) |
