Probably because there are no restrictions on leaving Tassie. The borders are only closed to the disease carriers from the big island. When Tasmanians return they have to go into quarantine for 2 weeks

i think if you are caught out and about showing symptoms of COVID, then you should be forced to be tested, and if the results come back positive, then a massive fine for not being in some sort of isolation.
this might help those who are struggling with the simple concept that other states seem to be having no issue with.

from Franco's link My eldest traveled all through southern Europe in their summer in 2019, and got nailed by a flu while there. Crazy to read this. Spanish Flu 2? Pity, I liked the Batlady memes

Here's an interesting scenario, we've got two sides of the fence in this discussion.
If you were the grand poobah of the government and country - how would you handle COVID-19 outbreak in Australia? |

I would lock you b@stards up for 2-4 weeks, Xi style. Troops at every road in and out of every state. Would have eliminated the virus. Should be easy to do with a population of only 27m. Then open everything and get back to normal. Pretty simple formula really. Maybe I can replace Dr Murphy. |

Sounds pretty stupid to me. Uh, they are passing through Melbourne Aust biggest hotspot with the potential to pass this on throughout Vic, NSW and the ACT.

Yeah if you did that C.K at least the country would be even with the virus in every state rather than have a little, clean, unaffected island hanging off the bottom

Franco if they can write your car off the road for a offensive window sticker to them, i'm sure a little forced nasal probing is not out of the question.

With the informal reputation of the LGH, I can understand vulnerable people wanting to get sick somewhere else.

I’m heading back to Darwin on the 6th July and leaving QLD is no problem at all, I don’t need any paperwork, don’t need to do a thing….getting in to the NT is another thing entirely though including self-isolating for 14 days before leaving and filling out a whole bunch of forms, checklist’s and declarations. When i arrive i will spend the night in a hotel and will have to remain there, the next morning I with the rest of the joining crew will be transported to the ship where we will have to remain for the duration of our swing, no nipping up the road when back in for port calls..... Hopefully when crew change next comes around the border restrictions between NT & QLD have been relaxed

That should have hit it on the head. Then reopen everything with ALL international arrivals getting a mandatory quarantine at THEIR expense, including citizens after a certain date. In hindsight that may have been overkill but with the information at the time that is what I would have done. 6 week hardcore shutdown then hard boarder policing. No self isolation. No exceptions. |

Isn't that what NZ did with their complete lockdown?

Pappa Andrews
- refusing testing in quarantine extends the stay by a further 10 days making a total of 24 days. - can involve a fine if they refuse testing also - results for hotspot suburbs expected on Tuesday - today's numbers are 49 new cases in VIC and only 4 from outbreaks, additional case from reffo family get together. - Coles Keilor Downs staff member infected, total of 4 cases from that outbreak. |

46 new cases for Australia (41 in Victoria) and no deaths so CMR drops to 1.361% and active cases rise to 558 (7.3%).
2 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.445% and active cases rise to 16. The UK had 890 new cases and 100 deaths so the CMR is down to 14.025%. Just over 48k new cases in the USA yesterday and 860 deaths sees CMR down to 5.0% and active cases up 53.1% and the raw numbers are rising. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences. Other notable points: The global case numbers pass 10M and deaths pass 500k; North America passes 3M cases; The UK completes 9M tests; India passes 0.5M total cases; North America had another day with more than 50k new cases; Asiarecorded its highest daily new cases with 46,592; Africa recorded its highest daily new cases with 11,954; Liberia (45), El Salvador (210), Palestine (258), Kenya (278), Kyrgyzstan (309), Kazakhstan (569), Israel (621), Nigeria (779), Indonesia (1,385), Colombia (4,149), South Africa (7,2120), India (20,131) and the USA (48,008) all recorded new daily highs, those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

It's been awhile since I've looked at the USA in detail but the worst hit states in terms of total cases remain relatively unchanged with New York, New Jersey, California (+1), Illinois (-1) and Massachusetts making up the worst five as well as 43% of the total cases in the USA. Indeed, New York has 18.2% of all the USA cases and 25.9% of the deaths while only having 5.87% of the population.
Cases per 100k of population is obviously led by New York with 2,090 and New Jersey with 1,909 but Rhode Island (1,535) jumps into 3rd ahead of Massachusetts (1,521) and DC with 1,365. In terms of sub-groups, the US military actually fares worst overall with 6,500 cases per 100k followed by Federal prison inmates with 4,780. It's a different story for CMR with Connecticut (9.29%), Michigan (9.08%), New York (7.64%), Pennsylvania (7.57%) and New Jersey (7.56%) making up the worst five. Only Utah remains under 1% CMR. In terms of deaths per 100k of population, New York (159.7) and New Jersey (144.2) are way out in front of Connecticut (118.4), Massachusetts (105.7) and Rhode Island (82.9). Hawaii (1.2), Alaska (1.6), Montana (1.8), Puerto Rico (2.9) and Guam (3.02) have the best numbers.

Imagine all the southern state grey nomads amassing on the southern side of the Tweed, waiting to flood QLD if it opens while it still winter. Just this weekend we have had an influx of Melbourne refugees hanging around the North East and not abiding by the rules. They were advised not to leave Melbourne to go on holidays but here they are the stupid f***ers. DJR stay safe.
