Full time employees going to work spreading their kid sickness. I understand its more "Australian" to use your sickies for days of alcohol abuse or numbing of the sences by playing golf or going fishing... But as a grubby subby that doesn't get,or can afford to take days off, I say rather loudly "screw you, inconsiderate plucks!"

And my geez I hate that for today... The stiffs who are to busy or self appointed important to even say g'day back to you when you're the only two people in an elevator...

sitting inside having the last cuppa, getting ready for bed, around 11 last night when the dogs go crazy and I hear running out the back, I flew out to have a look and caught up with the thieving feral mongrel just as he was going over the back fence
I had his jumper and was hauling him in when he discarded it and legged it.......methinks he had a lucky escape that time and wont be back anytime soon. "missed by that much"......geez I really, really hate that......I would have loved to give his nose a couple of pulls. never used to happen around here......

When you go to the music shop prepared to spend money on the sheet music you ordered, walk out wuth two books still on backorder, and spending twice as much as you would have, even if they were available.
I now have too much music to learn. WOE!

Solicitors who stop by trying to sell their stuff, selling door to door. This woman wanted to sell some homemade artsy cards with some books. I nicely said to her, "umm, sorry, this is a workplace and there's no soliciting allowed." She got IN my face and said, "I'm NOT soliciting, I'm merchandising."
I didn't know what to say...........till a friend who was walking by stopped and told her "No, so just go." Merchandising? So that's what soliciting is called now? |

My primary instrument is piano. But I also dabble in guitar, bass and tenor sax

To me, if she's merchandising door to door then it's the same as soliciting.

I hate when you make bread, put it out on the porch to prove because it's too cold in the house, then go outside to pot up some plants.
Halfway through potting up said plants you remember putting the bread in a bowl with some netting over it nearby, look for it, and realise it's been dusted with compost and potting mix. To make matters worse, I decided to try and save it, but forgot to wash off my hands when I walked into the kitchen, and so just made it worse. THEN I decided to put it in the bin, and it nearly tried to escape because it was rising so well. Would have been a great loaf

I just walk out with new instruments. I play violin, then I bought a cello, so I'm teaching myself that, and now I've just bought a new guitar, so I will have to learn that too. I need an orchestra to play in, that's what I really enjoy.

I hate it when you try and use common sense / courtesy to solve a problem for the benefit of another person and it gets thrown in your face. I have an online company that sells ties and vigorously inspect each product prior to postage.
I get an email from a highly educated (according to the signature at the bottom of their email) person saying that product I sent them was obviously damaged and missing a part. Puzzled, I replied telling them to send a photo of the damage, and that if it was the case I would send them a replacement. She replied, telling me she wasn't expecting me to ask her to send a pic, and told me she was assuming she would need to send the item back. My reply... ok then, send it back.... That was 6 weeks ago... nothing in the mail from her. I just hope there isn't a lawyer in Adelaide slagging my products or poor customer service. Makes you wonder....

Found a really good music store that can get in most music I want for the same price as the net, with the added benefit of them putting it on the shelf if I don't like the layout. Shame you're in Sydney, I'd totally love to have some sessions with someone orchestra oriented

Just quickly on the music. My 7yr old has given me a list of instruments she wants to learn, violin, flute, guitar. At school they play the ukelele and she was told she could not do violin or flute till she was 10. She get's the equivalent of A in music (she gets the same for all acedemic parts of her schooling, art and phys ed not so much) and she is real keen. Is there a starting point for this? Do I just buy a violin and then try and find someone who offers lessons?

You can definitely find someone who teaches violin to younger kids. Schools often put age limits on things fir ridiculous reasons (I played tenor sax at school, wasn't "allowed" to in yr 7 or 8 because of my size, In year 8 Mum put her ffoot down and sent me to school with a tenor declaring that she wasnt paying hire fee for an alto when we had a decent tenor sax at home, but I digress).
To me, and a lot of musicians/music teachers, starting young is better, and at a younger age it's 90% of.the time going to be about feeling rhythm and appreciating music more than technique, but that can set a very strong foundation for later years. Feel free to pm me about anything, I have a couple of friends who play violin, I can ask their opinion today

When a car the next lane over decides they want to get into your lane accelerates forward then expects to be let in. I wouldn't call that giving way to the lane you want to change to. Then I get abused for not jamming on the brakes and making way for them. Common courtesy - show some and you'll get some in return.
For once today at a particular intersection I was in the left lane at the front of the lights. The left lane enables you to go left at the next intersection and the right lane is right turn only. Most go left. Heaps of people choose the right lane then en masse change to the left lane and jump the traffic queue. The left lane usually has a longer queue as 2/3rds do the right thing. So this time I took off with no cars in front and the guy to my right kept accelerating with the intention to cut in front of me. He didn't get far enough ahead, but didn't slow down and drop into the gap behind me for the left turn. Instead, the right hand turn lane had no traffic and the lights were red, but he went over the stop line, pulled left in front of the other cars waiting and when there was a gap, took off onto Princes Hwy Clayton, which had the green light. I was shaking my head in disbelief. Where I know what I have to do and what lane I need to be in, I'll position myself early enough so that no-one has to brake to let me in. Lane changes are usually made into gaps in traffic. People who deliberately cut in late to get ahead cripple traffic flow. I would like to install lasers in the front bumper - then I could take out a tyre or 2 when they cut me off.

Pick up a guitar and learn Poppa! I'm of the firm belief anyone that wants to can learn an instrument.
