Hey guys,
Theres heaps of images floating around in this thread of 15x12" rims; but can anyone advise if 15x12" rims with a 7" backspace will fit in a non-altered coupe rear wheel arch (using a standard width XB GT 9" diff)? Cheers

Cheers George - I saw he runs a few 12" tyre combos from the photos he's loaded. I'll PM him.
BTW; I recieved the carpet/ control arms no problems. Thanks for that! All going to a good cause.

I thought I may have trouble. I think I may have to stick with the standard 15x10" w/ 5" backspace - not that there's anything wrong with 10" rims. MT N50 - yum! I love the flat side wall they give. This may be a niave question, but are these still available for purchase? I thought they may have been discontinued.

do you have any idea what tyres are available
14's are almost impossible to get - 15's are becoming harder and harder knowing what tyres are available is the most important aspect for legalities you would need to look at the rta in your state. i believe you can go 1 inch wider on the track than standard. whether that means the whole range or your actual car i do not know. however, most people in authority will let you off for 10 inch wheels nowadays it seems like you want to run something like 225/235's on the front and around 245's on the rear most 7-8 inch wheels will fit the front of a coupe and most 10 will have no problem fitting on the rear because they are generally mass produced, 12 slotters are made to suit the cars available at the time of production, so most will fit a coupe. you will need to check before committing, but if you have the back space measurements, someone here will be able to help |

The really stupid bit of regulation isnt just the rollout - or the Track - these seem to be ok to deal with. In the ACT it's the ... *** cannot ne wider than 30% of the original tyre. IE: On an XA Coupe original was 185 So thats a max of about 240 you can get to legally !!! Not even close to the 295 Rear I would like - or even a 265 rear ! Sheesh ! . |

certainly if you have a 7 inch rim, a 265 is too big for it. it can be done, but wear rates and probably even safety would be compromised while most of the coupes on the road are probably unroadworthy, the police seem to taken into account the age of the vehicle (and driver's), and the conditions it is normally driven in and turn a blind eye. insurance could be more of a problem, but if you have the size of the wheels on the policy, then i assume you should be right in the event of a claim |

As I understand it here in VIC you can legally go 1" wider than the widest rim available, either standard or option. What this means for us is that from XY you could option your car from new with 15x7 Bathurst Globes so you can go to an aftermarket width of 8" legally.
The final paragraph of gtxb67's post above is spot on. To stay technically legal a good combo is 15x7 fronts with 235/60x15 and 15x8 rears with 265/50x15. One guy in the club has this on his Landau and it looks fine. The rear wheel arches are pretty full and he has absolutely no hassles with rubbing or scraping. 235/60x15 tyres are not too difficult to find, 265/50x15 tyres are harder but not impossible. Canterbury Wheels and Tyres sell new Maxxis Marauders in this size. Ebay can source this size as well.

Now I am unsure of what we have here .....
The front rims fit fine - but dont fit on the rear of the car ? So it looks as if the rear diff has been replaced ? Its body and Engine numbers match as an XA GT - but it has rear disc brakes ??? Off an XB GT maybe ? So the rims and tyres cannot be swapped around ....... Not only that - the nuts both read 1/2 inch outer but the threads are different internally - ie: neither the front or the rears can be interchanged !!!! .... lost ..... |

I'm looking into getting some tyres soon, 295/50r15's and probably 235/60r15's with RWL for street use only. (will 245's fit the front if 235's aren't available in a particular brand)?
Does anyone have any opinions on the below tyres? BF Goodrich A/T Radials Cooper Cobra G/T's Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T's Mastercraft Avenger G/T's Hercules H/P 4000's Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's Hancook Ventus H101's Furura GLS Super Sports I did enquire a supplier about the BFG Radials because I like the look of them but they advised me against them due to their poor wet weather handling abilities. Just thought I'd see if anyone was using any of the tyres above and what they thought of them before I make a purchase. |

Just bought some Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T's for my XB Coupe, nice looking tire and very cheap for what you get, not sure how it will drive as my coupe is not on the road yet.

Friend runs 15x12 Convos and Hoosier radials, 29x12x15, untubbed, standard length diff and 5”backspacing, its quite low and rubs in 3 spots.

Does anyone know if 265/60 14s exist? I have a feeling not but figure its worth a try.
I have 235/60-14s on the front on 7" rims. 265/50-14s on the back on 8" rims. The backs are smaller than the front and look way too small, I'm hoping to go a bit bigger without new wheels. I think it might even be cheaper going all new 15"s than getting new 265-14s I have chrome 12 slotters now and they are growing on me so I'm thinking of going to 15" in the same. Go 7" and 8" wide again or go up to 8" and 10" while I'm at it? I don't want to have to make things fit so what could I fit? Looking at 235/60s on the front but heard some fit and some don't, anyone know what causes that? And 275/60 or 295/50s on the back, would depend what rims I went, any problems at all with the 295s? Hi Phil
I am currently running 245 50 14 on the front and 295 50 15 on the back if you change your front tyres to a 50's profile the back ones will look bigger As my tyres are 20 years old I dont know if you can still get 14's in a 50's profile if you like the slotters you can go to Ajax motor wheels in Melbourne with a 295 50 15 tyre and they can fit the tyre to the rim without the center on it then they press fit the center and fit it to your car then adjust it till you are happy with the off set and clearance thats how I did mine and they sit perfectly without rubbing and still have plenty of dish on them |

So what could I fit front and back with fully standard guards on 15" rims? 235/60s on the front maybe? or only a 50 profile? And the back 275/50? or do 295s fit normally? What rim widths too? Also I do like plenty of sidewall, the classic look, also I don't want the front diameter bigger than the back, mine are like that now and I think it looks pretty bad.

Hi Phil this is a pic of my coupe with 245 / 50 / 14 on the front and 295/50/15 on the back under my standard unmodified guards I have a smaller diameter wheel on the front as I think it looks better you should be able to go 15 all around with the same width Im running |

I might have a play around when I need to, with just bigger on the back, and on both, though if your tyres have lasted 20 years my backs should still be fine for a while then hopefully Those are custom spaced rims, not standard backspace though? So I wont necessarily fit those sizes on a standard backspace?

According to a lot of the guys on the forum a 10 inch rim with a 5 inch back space will fit nicely under the car ( back of the car)
Mine are a custom offset so that that they sit as close to the wheel arch as possible without rubbing ( not sure of the actual measurement as I was trying to get the right look visually) I'm actually upgrading to 19 inch rims as I want a more modern look just saving the dollars at the moment 10 x 15 slotters do come up on eBay from time to time Last edited by neptune blue; 30-05-2013 at 08:34 PM. |

Slotters was all that was available back in 1987 when the car was done up 3 piece alloys were only just released but very expensive Currently saving up for new wheels to give it an up date Also thinking of replacing the GS stripe as that was also removed when the car was rebuilt 25 years ago |
