I don't think BA had the cabin filter from factory, as there was a retrofit kit for it to put in the filter type from Ryco - unless it was an option from the dealership and not factory across the Falcon range?

The brochure says otherwise.

You would have been tearing your hair out if you ever drove a HD -HK Holden or XK-XP Falcons with the 2 spd auto trans.

Obviously the slot for the pollen filter to go in was there though.I have all the sales brochures from the AU onwards, but didn’t see the ‘A’ which denotes it can be added @ any time.Mine had the filter in it when I purchased the vehicle.(ex Geelong FOMOCO car.)

Naturally, but was fitted with a mesh screen as standard.

Thats all I've found when working on B series Falcons, always the mesh screen and never the actual filter.

My dealer must have been kind to me. My first FG XR, then later, the XR50, both had pollen filters from when I picked them up.

This will present a compelling concept for some buyers:

MG 4 Xpower - $60k, 320 kw/600 Nm, 4WD, 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds

The 2sp Auto Powerglide were not that bad in the 6 cyl Holden's
HD and HR norm was a 3,36 diff with 13in wheels and the HK with 3.36 ratio
makes them gearded up a bit more with 14in wheels and the extra weight.
But they do not drop back on hills like the 4sp old mate was on about that drive one up the wall ?

Taking off in our HR 186 auto was fine, it would drag my sisters HK 186 auto off easy and the HK was fine to drive as such.
Mum's HJ 202 3sp auto had nothing to boast about i am sure both the HR and HK would flog it. I can not say the HJ impressed me to drive i would rather the HR or HK in fact.
I am surprised that i liked the 2sp auto better in the 6cyl's.

But as to the Powerglide 2sp auto in the V8's they were to high geared with 2.78 diff ratio, you needed a 3.36 to make the most out of them or they were a pain to drive. maybe a HT HG 350 GTS 2sp auto would of been fine, they came out with a 3.08 diff ratio and have the torque to respond well.

2SP Falcons XK XL had 170 and with the big imported 200 6 CYL in XM XP 3.20 Diff ratio, i did not like such at all in a XM 200 6 CYL it may of been a bad example.

It appears Cadogan is the only journo/mouthpiece who isn’t one stroke away from busting a nut over these cheap and nasty POS.
Nearly every new Chinese car seems to be driven by grey haired western boomers. Goes to show poor life choices aren’t confined to the youth.

Totally agree! Just don’t try & debate the pitfalls of these with a ‘Tank’ owner! They think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I saw a rather nice looking yellow 'something' in a car park that I just had to look at.
A closer look showed it was a MG5 sedan, which in size and appearance was about a medium SUV. Interior looked OK also.
Checked out the details and specs online, seemed to fit the usual specs for newish cars and good value for the money.

But then, I have been told that pretty young ladies in Thailand may not be as they seem either.

I joined the Tank private group of Facebook and there’s some interesting faults already.
One a few people are complaining about is the Emergency Lane Keep triggering when not needed and violently shaking the wheel.

One of the most concerning comments I saw on there about this fault was
“I no longer turn it off and find it’s not too bad now I’m used to it and don’t fight it but work with it by using a light hand”

Imagine buying a new car and accepting that it’s going to violently shake the steering wheel randomly and that’s an acceptable quirk.

Just a software issue, it will be sorted out. Usually when a new model comes out (especially Chinese) the ignorant and the haters will always find something to put them down with. Good chance everyone on this site will be driving a Chinese manufactured vehicle within the next 10 years.

Funny how history repeats itself. Pretty well sound like the majority of people in the late 60's about buying a Japanese made car.

Absolutely, I well remember those days, but the Japanese & Korean vehicles are far more superior than the Chinese manufactured ones. I have had a few Japanese cars from the very late sixties & seventies.Still far better than early Chinese ones.

I have ordered an Asian made vehicle, new Everest. If I was to buy another Asian made vehicle, Chinese this time, the MG4 XPower looks good or a Polestar 3, but it would only happen if my FG XR6T ute died, but with only 120,000klm it has got a fair bit of life left in it.

That is the charm for most motoring journos. striking colours, edgy styling that ages worse than expired milk while looking awfully awkward from various angles, styling cues from Jap and Euro brands that have been in use for years. Somehow this is a good thing? Instead of spending $30k on an MG, buy the ten year old Mazda CX5 it’s ripped off for half the price.

But I’d rather take my chances with a Thai woman in a dark room, at least no one will see.

There is a good book that goes into this in detail, Superbikes and the ‘70s by Dave Sheehan.

I do not remember buying a Jap car being worried about the quality of them, for the quality was the reason most people bought such.

The Problem with Japs cars 60's and 70's was the engines were to small period ! regarding 6 cyl cars if they had a 6 cyl of 3.0L they would of sold a lot more.

Don't bet on them finding a fix.

I just had my Audi S6 refunded by Audi as they could not fix the intermittent fault where the vehicle decided randomly that there was a driver emergency resulting in a call to 000, activation of brakes and sharp left steer to pull over.

Scary when you are in the right lane on a freeway.

Dealer claimed a software update would fix it. It never came!

Problem is, there is no real regulation, testing and approval of any of the safety systems installed in any cars as compared to the Aviation industry.

Some of these new cars are getting as complicated as planes yet we blindly trust them to perform safely all the time.

If the Germans can't get it right, or even fix it, i don't have much hope for the cheaper chinese cars!!

When the Jap cars first arrived they were cra@p, just like the Chinese cars they sold purely on prices vs features.

By the late 60s we got cars like the Datsun 1600 (P510) & the OHC Toyota Crown, that was when buyers began to notice the better build quality. By the early 80s the Jap cars were world class.

Many buyers didn't care that they weren't great performers, many cared more about economy & trouble free longevity.

We went thru the same thing with Korean cars. Hyundai, Daewoo & Kias of the early 90s were a joke, but within 10-15 years they were on a par with the Japanese.

Now it's the Chinese guys turn. I don't think it will take 10-15 years to catch up. Some of them are quite a reasonable buy already, but they are not all the same.

The commercial vehicles seem to suffer more quality issues than the passenger cars. On first inspection a Haval or MG is a lot better put together than some of the LDVs & Great Walls of recent years.

So anyone who would like to buy a Chinese manufactured vehicle, were worried about peer pressure from friends and forums like these, GWM has overcome the problem for you. GWM bought the Colorado plant at Rayong in Thailand from GM around 2020 and started to manufacture Haval H6 and Jolian HEV vehicles in 2021 and another 8 model of their EV's will be produced there from the 1st quarter of 2024. So you would expect the product would have a manufacturing quality as their neighbour vehicle plants of Ford, Toyota, Mazda etc. So you can go and buy one of these GWM's made in Thailand and still say I wouldn't buy a Chinese made vehicle.
