The major cities are crazy $$ and crap to live in anyhow. You don't have to live in the country to get cheap housing, I'm on the outskirts of a major city and have the best of both worlds. Close enough to good paid work and cheapish property (acreage to boot!). I would move to the country in a hearbeat though, Broken Hill is nice, as is Alice Springs. Some of the very remote rural towns are also very cool.

Walked past some hovel slum in Sydney's inner west yesterday, filthy dump under a flight path. Couldn't park a gogo mobile in the drive.
For Sale 1.3m. This is what people aspire to ? but it had a coffee shop round the corner.

Did you happen to notice if there were any other shops nearby where someone could purchase milk at 2am. If so it sounds perfect, no one in the city buys milk at 2am but everyone wants the option.

It's not City Milk unless it's 2am permeate-free single-origin barista (the milk AND the barista are single-origin) A2-activated mochafrappeccino drone-delivered by Jörg, an Uber-Eats / Red Bull champion drone pilot.

I had a work colleague tell me the virtues of his inner Melbourne suburb and all that is on offer. I asked how often he frequented these places, "never, I cant afford to" was the answer.

Mate I see it all the time, look like a king yet live like a peasant. It's a myth to achieve a lifestyle you cannot afford and don't want to work for because it eats into the desired lifestyle. I moved to a house I bought in an area further out then I've ever lived but it beats the hell out of spending stupid amounts on rent for a poxy 2 bedroom unit. Cost of living is way down. Also I feel bad for kids who grow up never having a backyard so I wanted one of those for my son. Can fit 3 cars on the driveway and get them out independently with the boat beside the house. The local woolies only usually stocks 1 or 2 avocados because there a low volume seller. I can live much more then Joe hipster in Newtown.

I've just put down a deposit on a house and land package. Luckily it's very close to where I grew up in a middle class suburb in Geelong, so it's affordable. If I was buying the same house and land in Melbourne it would probably cost double.
Demand for housing down here is increasing rapidly as people have been priced out of the market in Melbourne and people are starting to realise it's only an hour to Melbourne from here, which is probably quicker than it is for some people in the outer suburbs of Melbourne who have to battle traffic jams every day. Luckily I hate avo so I can afford a new house. |

Would that be low fat, skim, reduced fat, light, high protein, no fat, high calcium, organic, lactose free, permeate free, A2 or even flavoured? Take your pick. And we have not touched on soy yet - but they all taste like milk

Tomorrow will be similar, next week going camping, fishing and hunting while everyone else is at work. So doing 70-80hr weeks has well and truly paid off.

My first place was a three bedroom townhouse with no A/C, for ten years we has a water bottle and a pedestal fan to get us through summer, drove a $2000 car for 15 years that we ran into the ground.

There sure are some cheap houses out there if your prepared to live outside the rat run box, then I wonder how you would pay for it if you didn't have the work locally.
Adapt or die I guess. Years ago a job was for life now the average job is contracted for maybe 5 years max. Kind of makes it hard to secure any type of long term loan to pay for these big ticket items. I question an older generation who lucked out on buying cheaper houses years ago in places like Sydney, selling them as the property market soured and bought up all the cheaper houses on the North Coast now going through it's own boom. I feel sorry for genuine first home buyers who don't want to make money from a roof over their heads.

How many hours a day... or how many hours over the three days ?

She buys up a whole bunch of housing when it's dirt cheap, planning on being able to take advantage of the $4000/week rent costs and is now "all sick and very angry" because the mining boom has passed and noone wants her properties anymore. She contributed to the cause of the inflated prices and is now cracking the sads that the prices have come back down. Sounds like just desserts to me. Especially with her being a real estate agent, I bet she grabbed those properties for herself before even advertising them as on the market. |
