Why, because Ford will use something similar to what Holden copied off 20 different other cars?

G'day guys the first picture resembles a Falcon XR Prototype that Spyman took a photo of around December 2013 (I think). This I heard was before the unique XR Dual Hockey Stick looking DRL's were being made. Now they've been made it appears they are now on XR prototypes as the replacement of the dips under the light that the B series and FG series had. While the E series and Au had the rounded headlamp design to give it the XR look.
So it appears with the new model Ford are carrying on that tradition except using classy DRL's now. (Think Audi Style) with a neon look like the rear lights of the new Falcon. In the teaser video Ford clearly made the Dual Hockey stick looking DRL's a main feature of the new Falcon. Look in the middle pic and you can easily see the Dual DRL's which have already been revealed in the teaser (bottom pic). So Ford won't have to hide them like the G series ones (single strip) that was originally used on the XR prototypes as they hadn't been shown in the teaser vids, unlike the dual XR ones. One of the media guys armed with one of my pics at today's GTF launch asked a few questions about xr8,as it's the only one media are interest in. and the reply was interesting, and one of the things that happened was we got a sketch of what the xr8 "could look like" and the sketch is along the lines of Callum's orange car We should get a proper look late august Spyman Last edited by spyman03; 10-06-2014 at 06:07 PM. |

I think anyone driving a new XR8 won't care, namely because nothing apart from a HSV is going to get near it whereas Holden cannot try to match it without stomping all over HSV toes...one benefit of no longer having FPV.

LooLoo18 that's precisely why I dont think it will get the full GT spec engine/driveline/suspension.
I dont think there would be enough money in it for them if they do.

The cost for a 335 and a 315 engine would be exactly the same. Just different software everything else identical. Everything leads me to believe it will be 335. If not why not have an XR8 ute, it would sell in numbers close to the sedan IMO.

There's more cream in the high spec cars than the entry level models. So anything is possible come November (or whenever the last Falcon goes on sale).

My guess is the spyman has seen a few different versions of the XR lights, could be 2 production ready examples and there is some last minute finessing going on. There was pictures floating around of a alternate FG XR series bumper, one that was early suggested as the design by the press etc. Ford could be still be deciding on the illuminated hook design for the XR's, versus others... *edit, this is the alternate FG bar design, a prototype was spotted at DJR at one point...

Those clear repeaters will make a nice little upgrade for owners SZ's and will probably make it onto the SZII

No use having 1500 engines set aside for utes and run the risk of slow sales and having to get rid of who knows how many at the end... Having one engine stocked up at X amounts is more economical...

I would've thought the GT335 would have different suspension and other bits and pieces to be able to handle the more powerful engine.
I agree with you the engine is the same, I just don't think it's cost of the engine that would make them use the 315. I think it's an end to end thing that would take into account all other various part tolerances, part costs and potential warranty claims for the cheaper vehicle.

Read through the 2011 gs and gt release notes, apparently they share the same suspension setup which is just recalibrated the valving and revised spring rates over a standard falcon. Only the rspec and now the GT-F got the extra beefed up driveline.
