A lot of aftermarket Tuners are easily and reliably getting 383 RW-KW just from a tune (no hardware improvements) from BOTH the GT & GS - as they are identical mechanically (even Camshafts). This is a common practice, with no reported driveline or structural etc issues. I would be very surprised if the next XR8 was NOT a 335 GT engine - and it appears to be widely recognised and acknowledged to be the case. eg: From: Ford comes clean on V8 power: Final hot Falcon actually produces 404kW, not ‘just’ 351kW By: James Stanford Tuesday, 10 June 2014 9:40AM http://motoring.ninemsn.com.au "Now that FPV is producing its final batch of cars – and having made a big thing about the 351kW figure – the company has ’fessed up about how much extra grunt is produced when the overboost function is operating. It says in that situation the engine will make 15 percent more power. That drives the peak power figure of the GT-F final edition cars to 404kW. At lower temperatures, the overboost function works without a time limit. That means it produces 404kW all the time.(i.e. 404 kw for the 351 / 385 kw for the 335kw) The only limitation comes on hot days, when the engine control unit limits the overboost function to 15 or 20 seconds to prevent engine damage. The way the ECU is calibrated, the overboost does not work in first gear in order to protect the transmission. The official recognition of transient overboost function will make no difference to FPV sales, as stocks of regular GT and related models are almost all sold and every single GT-F has been allocated to a dealer. It does, however, create more excitement around the return of the Ford Falcon XR8 model when the updated Falcon range appears in November. That car will run what was the FPV GT engine, which is officially rated at 335kW. However, as Ford now admits, the V8 will pump out 15 percent more power, for a peak figure of 385kW. This much power in an XR8, which is likely to be priced within range of Holden’s SS Commodore, which costs $41,990 and produces 270kW, could really boost the appeal of the final hot Falcon. The XR8 will also be the first Ford-badged V8 model since the last XR8 bowed out due to emission rules in 2010." http://motoring.ninemsn.com.au/cars/...n-on-v8-power/ Last edited by stevefreestyle; 10-06-2014 at 08:11 PM. |

Sorry if already posted, I'm trying to keep up to all these threads. Many of the software tweaks that allowed Ford and Prodrive engineers to free up the GT F's supercharged V8 to pump out over 400kW in 'overboost' mode have been pulled forward from the XR8 program. Ford engineering staff on hand for the GT F launch would not comment on the specifications of the upcoming XR8. Speculation is rife, however, that both basic and high-performance variants will be offered, the latter using the GT F and RSPEC-pioneered suspension settings and Brembo braking tech. |

I wonder if there will be 'crate' engine sales of surplus Miami engines when the Falcon is done, just like Ford did with the Clevo in the 1980's...

At least he picked a nice colour....
Now if he got the right number 289, 302 well that could be worth it to somebody.... If he got a run of the mill number... "Tell em he's dreaming"

Very good rocket. Now, can you just massage the bonnet bulge a bit to make it go all the way to the back end of the bonnet.

Well done rocketscientist.
Not sure whether the new XR8 will have indicators on the mirrors, and remember as recently shown by Spyman the indicator on the panel will be clear now, not orange Well done though, the high beams will be the outer globe and the projector regular headlamps will be on the inner, (just like the current XR Falcon's). Terrific work, well done, bottom grille needs to be a tiny bit smaller |
