I get the impression northpoint would be paying automotive wages not mining wages, could be wrong though.

Inland is hot but dry. GF grew up in Moranbah and reckons its hot but not muggy.
Years ago I did a stint in Gove , hell on earth with the air so wet it was a struggle to breath when working and your cloths got stained with salts in bands as the sweat ran down , but good $$$$ and I was younger , much younger and losing the 20kg quickly was fine .

Side note if you can't drive please don't become an operator , the intake we are getting is ridiculous ...you are required to drive backwards in the dark with poor visability...for 12 hours folks , the bad ones are getting shown the door straight away . Just crazy , we can't train the impossible .
Awesome dry heat here at the bar , love it ..

And has anyone else got lucky ?

*tips and dirty tricks*....
if youre trying to crack the game for an interstate mines job....
change the address on your resume to a relative or friends in that state...
all of a sudden you are a local and much more attractive than just some numpty from interstate who wants a job in the mines....

Im not kidding, but I spoke with my uni "jobshop" today and I told them the difficultly I have been having cracking it just with summer work. My average is well..average, but my CV is very good.

Anyway, I noted that I had a suspicion that its because I am based in VIC. With every knock back I have had I ask what I could have done better, or improve on for next time I apply and guess what, no reply. Mind you everything is done via online applications and its rare I get a reply from anything that isnt generic and automated.

So, I would never expect them to actually say that its because I am in VIC, and everything seems to be in WA/QLD/NT, but I have a hunch they would play it safe and hire local. Which is a PIA, as I clearly state on my cover letter that I am committed to doing what it takes, FIFO etc.

Out of the 4 jobs I have applied for over the summer in VIC I have interviews for two of them....but they are not resources which is what I was hoping to try.

Also I applied for a job with a TAS company, got to the top three for a grad position but didnt get it. I was ok with that, I dont grad to next year anyway, but I asked about summer work. They said no worries, gave me the contact. I email them and they flat out say thanks for showing initiative but we hire internally...contact works at uTas...ah!

Its all very frustrating to say the least, because I know once I have the bit of paper it opens alot of options up. The amount of jobs alerts I get from Rio everyday in my future field makes me sick..Christ id take half the wage just for a start.

No not fly in fly out though our sister mine " caval ridge " will be 100% fly in / out.
Labor hire is the way in to most these days , generics ,medical , and for a better chance do a large machine ticket , such as rear dump / digger/ dozer etc.

Yer damo some people just can't drive and reverse with mirrors is a key element for a truck driver .backing into the shovel to get a load every cycle should become easier with repetition , but some just never get it .oh and yes everything has hids ,lighting plants etc .

Got my underground interview Tuesday. to go permanent at the site im working labour hire for. 50 interviews for just 10 positions. As far as i know im the only one currently working on site in that 50 and ive been doing stores here for almost 6 months.its for inexperienced workers but im hoping my onsite experience in stores like knowing whats used on site and the slang names for some equipment. I keep thinking there is going to be something holding me back though. like my age (24) as most operators seem few years older..

I haven't read the whole thread, but read the first few pages and the last few. Has anyone covered CVs? The way a CV is formatted and the information included is very important. There are companies out there who specialise in helping people with their CVs to get into mining and offshore positions.

Try and get hold of someone in an HR department and see what they look for when they are glancing over CVs.

Had my interview today. Think it went pretty good. 31 showed up for at least 10 positions. Up to 20 could be hired from the group.
Hope to find out by end of week.
