I agree, hard to see oil consumption as either bad engine design or poor quality control. but better to have it consumed than diluted by fuel and actually raise the level like the 1.5 L honda motor

I had to have mine topped up with about 500ml of oil. I'm not expecting it to use that much oil as the engine beds itself in; it's still relatively new, I've only done around 9000k in nearly a year; mainly stop/start traffic.

marg99 is right, better to have some oil consumption. I'd be more worried if there was none. And Euro engines are notorious for oil consumption. And if it only chews through 500ml a year, it's negligible.

All engines will burn some oil at the start. If it's still using a bit after it's first service, then you'd look at it.

Anyways, where do you think the oil goes? and the soot it would leave? I question the longevity of this engine.
Modern engines have very thin oil (to improve economy), I would expect some to get the past the rings and burn off. No big deal in my mind.
I owned a diesel Mazda a few years ago and it needed an oil change every 6 months due to oil dilution by the fuel, so to top up a few hundred mls of oil every year doesn’t even hit my radar.

Hi, new to 2019 Focus Active, this is a great thread.
Can you help with: - does it have a cabin/pollen filter?
-does the speed sensitivity actually limit top speed in say a 60 kmh zone or anywhere?
- it was a FoMoCo car would it have been fairly well looked after (although someone lost the 2nd key before auction)?
getting used to the car, many top features with tech and a responsive engine; no lag.

Cabin filter is behind the glovebox. You need to unbolt and unplug the glovebox then unbolt another panel before you can remove it. Videos on YouTube about it. Ford thought it was too easy to change on the MK3 so they made it take longer now

Thanks, found cabin filter, looks like 20 k km of dirt and dust, will give it a good clean.

Any thoughts on how the car surges a little on flat roads at 50-60 kmh or even 100-110 kmh? Changing to sport mode calmed it down, is that the only remedy or is it fuel quality or engine oil (which is 12 months old)?

I get this and I just had my oil changed. Doesn’t bother me too much but it is noticeable when it happens.
I don’t remember it happening at 100-110 km/h though just low speed.

A 30 min run on the M1 each way with economy at 6.3 L/100 km and no shuddering when I was very light on the pedal and in normal mode. Only when slowing down in a 60 zone was it hunting a bit but responsive when you want to pick up speed. I guess it's quite sensitive to inputs and overall a great drive in comfort, road holding and reserve power if you need it.

Did an oil change with Penrite 5W-20, very smooth and quiet so far and reset 'oil life' screen, but I can't figure out the speed limiter option yet as in what are some practical uses for it?
Any help appreciated.

Ok. Let’s say the speed limit is 60 and you don’t want to travel any faster than 60. So you set the speed limiter to 60 and the car won’t go faster than 60.

What’s the difference between the Y1DA and Y1DC engines?

VicRoads shows Y1DC for me but every selector tool shows Y1DC as a hatch and Y1DA as the wagon.

Which is correct?

I have the wagon with a VIN that starts as WF0PXXG.

Just subscribing to this thread. My daughter and fiance bought one last night. Basically brand new. 2020 model but first reg July 2021, so warranty until 2026. That was a nice bonus. Only 10k km. It has the optional driver assistance pack so gets adaptive cruise, blind spot etc.

The only thing that caught her out a bit, which wasn't a deal breaker, is seeming lack of climate control. We knew it didn't have dual zone but in the features list ford say single zone climate.. Reading more carefully we noted it did set manual instead of auto. Once upon a time climate control referred to an automatic system, otherwise it was just a/c.

I haven't read back through the thread so apologies if some things are already discussed. How's the little ecoboost go for economy around the suburbs? They're also planning a trip to Brisbane at xmas. Neither are in to cars but I told them the smaller wheels will probably offer quite a comfortable ride on the open road. With only 2 people and a bit of luggage I reckon it should do 6's. With only a 52L tank that should still offer reasonable range. We've done that journey a lot as a family so she is quite familiar with town spacings etc.

They pick it up on Thursday so pretty keen to have a look at it myself. We own a current escape though so already familiar with the inside layout in a way.

I'll start reading back through the thread now to see what I've missed.

Best I can tell if it has an 'auto' button on the hvac area that would be for climate control.
I'm only a month in with my Active and get 7.5 L/100 for short trips and close to 6.0 on a 1 hour freeway run, the Active has the 1.5L ecoboost.
I found I could update the sync 3 by connecting the car to home wi-fi and getting a 20 minute download which gave a better look overall. Overall driveablity is very good.
Hope to hear more about your experience.

Well, I've let the future son in law drive my car so it's only fair I get to have a go in their new focus I reckon

There's no 'auto' button so I guess it's old school in that regard. Bit of a shame but they still bought it so not a deal breaker for them.

Good feedback regarding the economy. Focus trend would be pretty similar I'd say. Basically the same mechanically.

I'll make sure to remind them to check it's got all the latest updates.

Cheers.

Anyone know how to keep the interior lights on for longer? Only opening the doors turns them on after they turn off after a few minutes. Interior buttons do not turn on the lights.
Battery voltage 13 V so it's not that.
