BTW I remember someone saying the VF II looks like it was designed by the Hyundai design department. Never a truer comparison was made:

Thanks mate, the colour is constantly changing but it has a dirty over tone to it.
It’s very deep when it’s in the shade or cloudy and becomes closer to a burnt orange in the sun. Sometimes it looks good and at others it looks awful. I do think when I buff it it’ll bring out more of the metallic flake which will make it look a lot better. At least that’s what I’m hoping. The overall darkness of the car will also be softened when the new rims arrive. I hate black rims with a passion and the new ones will be silver with a polished face with much more aggressive offsets. Anyway I choose it and have to live with it as at first I was going for white but I saw this colour in the sun and decided I wanted something not everyone else would pick. As far as driving goes it’s comfortable but performance wise it’s underwhelming. It doesn’t feel quick down low though is does feel better as you start to hustle it but with only a 100km on the clock I haven’t pushed it yet. The lower diff ratio doesn’t do much for the seat of the pant feel other then I now drive in a higher gear then I did with the last Ute. Cornering is average and not as good as the sedan version but a set of coilovers will fix that. Once you become the owner you start to see all the things you missed during the test drive and the cheapness of the interior really does show in some places and even though the overall layout and appearance of the inside is better than the VE’s the thickness and depth of the plastics is not. Holden really has skimped in some areas. The chrome bling around the shifter and screen plus the fake carbon fibre is a matter of taste but to me it’s horrendous. Sadly Ford had their chance and if they’d come to the party and produced a new SC V8 Ute then I wouldn’t be in this one. Once I finish working on the look and the performance I’m sure I’m going to love it. This is what I mean by the colour changing. This photo was taken in the middle of the day with the sun shining on it and the above shots other than the side on one were taken at 7:00pm in the shade of the trees with cloud cover. The close up of the roof also shows how different the colour can look and is also my first mod, a bee sting. |

^^^ What wheels have you chosen, Express?
Colour does look nice though, got a bit of depth in it.

Vossen CV5 20x9 at the front and 20x10.5 deep concave for the rear. These photos were sent to me by the distributor and I think have been lifted from another forum and when I was searching for rims this is the car that sold me on the Vossens. Mine will be the same finish, width and offset with the same tyres as shown here. I’m waiting for them to arrive from the US. |

Imagine the day when we see HSV Veloster. At least HSV can keep the H in their name. Would rather a High Undies than a Daepoo..

Normally the VE/VF arches look dysfunctional, but at times like these I wish Ford had put the Territory flared arches on the FG. This gets my begrudging respect.

Looks great Express! I'm the same as you, if Ford offered a decent V8 ute I wouldn't have just picked up a used Maloo. 3.9 diff gears and a truetrac was my first mod, I strongly suggest it! The truetrac is incredible handling wise.

The manual Redline comes with a 3.7 so there’s not much point in me spending the money for a 3.9 as the small change in ratio wouldn’t be worth it, although admittedly the Truetrac would be a major step up over the Holden offering. I’ll get a tune and see how things go and if I’m still hungry I’ll go down the cam route. |

That's a nice colour. I reckon Jungle Green would be my favourite colour though.
My mates VE Series 2 Redline is putting down 330rwkw now with the ole 270 base and that is plenty quick so these should be ever better for the same amount of money in mods. |

I can also relate to you wanting a colour that is a bit different. A colour that has multiple personalities, good and bad, will make you appreciate it even more as time passes.

Thats gonna look **** hot when the wheels are fitted. I like VF just hate the tacky vents on the bonnet on the new one. Bloody nice Ute though.

Thats one awesome looking ute, love the colour, works well with the black stripes which wouldn't usually be to my taste.
As for the interior, it's a perspective thing. Jump out of a euro and yeah, it'll look and feel cheap. But jump out of 10+ years of driving Ford panel vans like I have, and it looks and feels like the last word in refined luxury! |

That figure is easy enough to achieve with a decent cam in a manual. I had an E1 Clubby (with the ls2) and made 315 rwks but the ls2 heads don't flow anywhere near as well as the heads on the L98/L76 (the 6L used in the SS)

Still if you are going to do fake carbon fibre for example then unless it’s a reasonable facsimile why bother, why not use another finish that isn’t trying to be something it’s not and leave the poor look in the design cupboard. Anyway what I was really trying to say in my earlier post was until I started opening and closing, touching and feeling, turning myself upside down and stickybeaking I hadn’t notice just how much Holden had skimped on the interior. For example the release handles to tilt the seats forward on my VE Ute were strong thick plastic and on this VF2 they are so thin and flimsy I made a mental note to be careful in case I broke them. And the same can be said of some of the plastics in other areas when you touch them as they easily deform due to being thin. The pedals when you take a close look are cheap and nasty and no-where near the quality of the earlier versions and list of things I’ve noticed gets a little longer each day. A thumps down on some counts from me but the rest of the car I’m loving except maybe it being a little short on power. |

Sure the interior you are finding is a bit cheap, but you have a great V8 engine you can mod to get some more grunt, and if needs be spend $14,000 and stick a 2.3 Eaton blower on it with cams .....will be plenty of grunt. Everyone who gets one of these last v8s from Commodore and Ford should be savouring the best of evolution of Australian v8 motoring engineering . Refreshing to see your objectivity Express, but do not forget to enjoy your beast.

Those wheels! Those freakin' wheels!!!
I have looked at those pics a few times now and I still keep going back to look again. That offset and that width - makes the staggered HSV wheels look narrow. Can't wait to see how they look on a ute. |

I think VE's have dated really badly, but the VF looks great in high spec. Colour range craps on Fords as well.
