I guess my ute belongs here. heres how i found it
after a short test drive the original owner had it since new, and it had been sitting in the shed for about 18 months prior to me buying it. the old bloke past away and it just sat there since. |

That made me physically ill.... Sure if it was a stripped, rusted out hulk you'd maybe understand... Maybe, but a fairly pristine (by all accounts) vehicle like that is just insane!! Jesus, I'm planning on doing up an xf fairmont with more rust than that FFS!!!!!! |

Here's another painful one. Survived nearly 60 years complete with all it's glass, and look it even has all it's chrome trimming! Survived all that time intact, a piece of history, just to be heaved into the scrapper and destroyed in a matter of seconds. What a waste!

You have to remember...this the America. That thing, in that condition, would be worth maybe a couple of hunded bucks.
Hasn't anyone seen those shows about American auctions and those guys in the desert who get old cars and do them up? One show they picked up a 65 Thunderbird and a couple of other cars including a late 60's two door Chev for about a grand. The T-Bird needed a carby and a tidy up...and that was about it. When the wife and I were considering going to Vancouver for a month to stay with our daughter and her husband (thier plans fell through, so they didn't go), we decided that given the huge difference in air fare prices in flying to Vancouver as compared to LA, we would go to LA, buy some old car, and spend some time driving up the east coast and seeing the sights before heading into Canada. We looked up car for sale sights in LA, and came across some gems...Ford Crown Viccys for a couple of grand, Chev Caprices from the late nineties for $1500 or so, and one gem, a 1980 rear wheel drive Cadillac...one of the big square ones...new white paint, genuine wire wheels, new brakes, interior professionally cleaned up and colour touched up where needed but a few cracks were visible in the blue leather, with a CD and stacker in the boot. The engine was a 454 and 400 auto. It was...wait for it...$1200. The problem was that the engine had dropped a piston...probably broken a rod he thought, and it was for sale as is where is... No wonder people buy these things up and ship them over by the container load...even with a blown engine that Caddy would be worth a fortune here. A guy at work also bought a 1970 Ford LTD...a huge dark blue two door thing with a 390...for $3000 in perfect condition, and spent another couple of grand shipping it over, then some more getting it left-hand-drive rego complied for Queensland. For the price of a nice little Suzuki Alto he has a massive tank of a car and something pretty unique. |

its not that long ago that any of the X series falcons would be scraped without a second thought if they had a bit of rust or were showing their age.

Got me a bit of a barn find. Have been noticing 2 V8 engine blocks out my mates farm in the shed under a pile of crap for quite a while now. Decided to have a look and ask a few questions and ended up coming home with a 428 police interceptor block. Will be picking up the heads for it this week. May not be much to some but I like it.

Thats what happened to ALL of the cars traded in under the scheme - regardless of what they are. At the end of the day, the U.S government most likely owned that car, just like the many 1000000's more they bought back and crushed. |

heard about this, and followed it up yesterday
xa, falcon 500, wild violet, 6, column auto, light colour interior - not white tho, bench seat, xb drivers door, rust wise very clean, some in the LHS dogleg and drivers front guard. Still has un-used spare tyre in boot! No rego since 02, the owner is thinking of selling. Just needs very minor rust work and a paint job to be nice, no idea of the mechanicals condition.

At 4 grand it is a little overpriced IMO, then again price is subject to a lot of things.
