That is also a big concern. Ford would have to hand back that money. However I think Ford will commit to this at least, ending years of history in 2016.

Dont worry guys the Commodore will end up like the Falcon. I spoke with an old work mate who sells Holdens today. He said in 2000 he would sell 15 Commodores a month with the dealership doing up to 50 a month and now the whole dealership would be luck to sell 15 Commodores a month. The other thing is that VF was only a facelift not a whole new car and more like the AU to BA, now when the next commodore is due there will be no Falcon and even less commodore buyers and they have to develop a whole new car. At best the Commodore might be a global car heavily based on a GM America platform. If the dealerships have anything to do with it they want more products that are relevant on todays roads.

Same floor pan, Same roof and same doors, same engines and transmissions. This car is only a face lift even though it is a substantial one. It is the same as the facelift ford did from AU to BA.

[WIKI][/WIKI]The BA has less in common with AU than VF with VE. BA had fuel tank moved, floor pan changed, engines converted from sohc to dohc, whole new range of V8s, nearly 30kw power increase, new windscreen, new rear window, new roof panel, new seat rails, new dash frame, new seats, new windscreen washer bottle, new coolant header tank, new fuse box, new ECU, new HVAC, new fly by wire throttle, new brake pedals, new stereo. If you strip down both cars, practically nothing fits apart from doors. Impressive work by Ford, but they could have saved some money by leaving some unnecessary bits unchanged. If only Ford made new doors there would be no link with AU.

In automotive terms its an MCE - Mid Cycle Enhancement.
Just like SZ Territory, BA Falcon, VY Commodore etc. Next years Falcon will be the same. If Ford had done new doors for BA, that would've been an extra $300m based on the widely assumed assumption its about $50m a door - 4 SWB doors plus 2 LWB rear doors. |

And with the FG they maximised the return by not wasting money on doors either.

That's why it's my first EVER Falcon,...never had a Comode either. In the past both used to put too much emphasis on change for change sake instead of dealing with inadequacies

Well you don't just design them and order the dies to press the metal and program the robots to weld them.

The cost is in all the engineering and design and of course ensuring a door passes muster for a variety of reasons - crash testing, torsional ridgidity, systems, longitudinal forces exerted on the door etc. Then of course you have the not insignificant issue that the passenger cell must be designed and engineered to perfectly fit the said door and accommodate the structural forces that will be subjected to the door. I imagine the $50 million per door price tag incorporates some aspects of engineering and design of the relevant opening in the car's passenger cell.

I've heard that the 2014 Falcon will take design cues from the Taurus SHO. Someone who's seen it said it looked like a more aggressive Taurus SHO.
