A benefit of “mature owner” cars. Foster Ute just had its first new front/rear wheel bearings at around 335K. Diff centre (LSD) in no need of a rebuild.

…It’s fair to note the rubbish input bearing retainer on the T5 has been replaced at least three times, and four rebuilds done to the pedal box.

Dorf Damixa/Flickmixer kitchen tap; it must be at least 25 years old; leaking again; had fixed it in 2004 and 2014 (kept the old parts and had written down the dates). I was putting this fix off for too long, thinking I won't be able to get the small rubber seals (four needed) and might need a new tap/plumber to fit it ... but plumbingsales.com.au in Dandenong south had the seals on the net; yesterday I rode to local station, train to city, train to Dandy, bicycle a few kms to warehouse; bag of 10 seals for $13.91. How can they be that cheap?

Back home four hours after I left the house ... got it done in the afternoon but it's hard to be sure how tight to do up large brass fitting on each side but it's working well, nice and smooth action and no leaks.

800m from a servo, so i got some exercise.

I normally fill up after 800km regardless what the gauge says, but this morning it said 913km after it stopped lol.


2nd time in 3 months.

2010 was the last time I ran out of fuel, on an extremely thirsty motorbike. I had to push it a very short distance and as I was pushing it across the lights at an intersection I put my left foot on the left foot peg and straddled the bike and it got a bit too close to toppling over ... but didn't. It would have been an expensive #@*^-up, not to say a massive embarrassment. Then coasted downhill to a car workshop where they gave me some petrol.

Bummer, once ran out of diesel on the Hume freeway 5 kms from Gunning. Dipped my tank that morning, saw plenty on the stick so I thought.
Haven't made that stupid mistake again.
Cost me a full injection pump rebuild by the time we made it to Newcastle.

roKWiz: if you mean have I been swooped by magpies when cycling, not for a long time.

When we walk in the local park I whistle to them, trying to convince them that I am their friend. I have never been swooped in that park. The magpies must be used to people walking in there.

Maybe 6 or 7 years ago at Philip Island for the MotoGP, my friend and I bumped into a young Italian bloke who had just been swooped. He had a small wound on the back of his neck. He didn't have a clue what had happened.

I remember his name: Luca Prelez.

Was a little bit stressful because not only was my bonnet up / hazards on and door open the muppets were still driving up to my bumper on the green arrow :/

I like to play games sometimes. So my mate had a small project. My game was if you dont ask.
So he asked to borrow my drill. No worries, however a drill is useless without a drill bit. So drill, no bit, next question was do i have the things that do big holes in stuff? So holesaws. Short answer is yes, i have heaps ranging from 16mm to 104mm. But i asked how big and started rattling off numbers. 16,19,20,22,25.... yep, that gives a great blank look. So full kit out, my mate was after a 92mm. My safety instructions were. Its a high end drill, if it bites, if you arent fast off the tirgger, it will hurt you. If it kicks and snaps teeth off the holesaw? The drill wont hurt you, i will. Holesaws are expensive.
Watching retardism, and offering known results well after i was entertained, well, my suggestion of using my mate stan was squashed by my mate who is the inept big man, but whattda know, when i kicked him off the team for his project with my mate stan, well, it was all of 4 minutes with a stanley to make it mint. Only reason i did it not lend it to him was i didnt want the second question. That is how do you stop the blood.

Good that it was only 1 mtr at its highest point but still 90sqm in total. Most single sided with a little freestanding wall at the end.



Still not keen on the old bridge timber steps to be filled. They might end up brick infills later.

I was never good at playing with rocks and stones but was an expert in finding them when digging holes which always p***** me off.

Tassie, tried hard to convince them to use old red commons they had on site for the steps as a contrast to the stone but..

CB not for this, out of the 90sqm of drystone walling, maybe 2sqm has mortar for the top of the freestanding section.
Personally only use Hydrated lime in softer sandstone as its more porous than basalt, granite and bluestone (hard sandstone)

Nothing beats well put together stone walls, retaining or otherwise.
He is one of the last true Tradesmen not many around anymore for you can see his work will test time compared to the many Trade mugs today.

Booked a holiday to NZ March next year.

In the park this morning. Mum and dad duck and their little ones. Mum and dad leading them away from us but one was intent on feeding, but it scooted away when it saw us.

Two big male kangaroos shaping up to each other. Pawing at the dirt, rubbing their heads on foliage, standing at full height (about 7 feet) ... but it was never going to happen because one was on the other side of the fence, outside the park.

Finally, finally got some new tyres for the XC.
The Yokies had tread but just so old, rock hard and had cracks in between the tread pattern.
Still held air though.
These are from the Coopers factory in good old USA.
The drive home on new soft tyres was brilliant, my others were so hard my fillings almost fell out when hitting cats eyes when changing lanes.
Got to get some new centre caps to, the old ones were breaking up.

Finally got a rear power window fully sorted on the W126 project. It’s fast and smooth in operation.

Lack of good information on the ‘net plus the odd bum steer made it something of a detective effort - but the result makes it worthwhile. Two or three more windows to sort, and they should take nowhere near so long as the first.

So, i bought my son a torch, same one i have, and it came with a freebie keyring torch. I also have a same brand keyring torch on my car keys. Pretty handy i will say.
Anyhow. Gave both to my kid today and we went out for dinner with my mum. So my kid isnt so much a kid anymore, he is 13. I said just leave them in the car, but he wanted to open them up at dinner. Whatever.
Funny thing was. So my mum is very religious and doesnt have a dirty sense of humour. I am different to that.
So my kid opens up the keyring torch. Asks to see mine. So yeah theres my keys. He was excited as his is smaller then mine. I was having a chuckle at that, then he goes loudly 'hey grandma, mines heaps smaller then dads'. My mum knew he was talking about torches but laughed because it sounds like comparing members.
If anything im a tad bit dissapointed in my kid, yes he was keen on a small torch, but should know to word things better.

Relaxing on my back, on a rug with a rolled up cushion supporting the base of my skull. Not unlike how bodies are positioned for a post-mortem! I am tired, but not dead yet…

My NEW car is arriving on the 20th of Feb apparently
