It would end up like “wine snobbery”. Florid language with all kinds of near-random associations thrown in, and the odd pseudointellectual quote.

From the first bite, this decadent creation launches onto your taste buds like John Cage reprising his catalogue, but in tap shoes on Idaho red oak stageboards. (etc, etc)

Thats almost fighting words. The gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant, diabetics and pretty well everybody with either a food allergy or a different palate can argue a 'rating'. A recomendation due to personal prefference, the only responce to that is them saying its not their preference. So its more an exploration into places people may not have visited or not know of then choose to explore. I have 1 place i personally hold in high regard, but the 1 thing i think they do best is usually sold out by 7am. And its an hour drive from my place, so it was good to me when i was starting work at 6am across the road. But its not worth the effort for an $8 mexican pie that early in the morning when the fuel cost will probably exceed that and the drive time will remove any enjoyment from the pie.

Originally a worknmate dared me to get one because they didnt sound appealing at all. Turned out to be the best (and most expensive) that bakery sell. You have to be early but, theyre the first pie to sell out daily.

On my way back from the morning ride I pulled into my local Bakery (Catherine's Lighthouse Bakery) in Burnett Heads. I picked up a Chicken & Salad Roll and a Vanilla Slice, the vanilla slice is my monthly treat from here, they are nearly 5in square and 2in thick. The Roll is a bit of a monster packed with fresh salad and about a third of a chook on a fresh baked roll topped with bacon and cheese......pictured on standard sized dinner plates

The vanilla slice has me salivating but I'm not so sure about that rabbit food stuff

I thought it had chicken in it.

Conveniently had to delivery stone to the transport company up at Beechworth so it was only natural to visit the bakery again.

That's right, there's loads of chook in them, she does a great roast pork one as well, there huge and you need both hands and a steady platform to eat them, not designed for eating on the run....

They do a great looking spiced apple and blackberry turnover with fresh whipped cream, i'll try one next month.

Looks good and good to see they're served on a proper plate too.
Nothing worse than ordering a nice meal only for it to show up in a cardboard box or paper bag with plastic cutlery.
Even worse is watching people eat at the dine in seats eating out of paper bags and drinking out of paper cups.

many many years ago I used to work in a corner grocery store...before supermarkets. Tuesday's and Thursdays I would drive the old work van to bakery and load up fresh bread. that smell still lingers with me today.
I always said if the idiots who make air fresheners areosole cans could create the smell of fresh baked bread they would have a winner.

We used to go past the bakery in Mt Isa in the 70s on our way home from Sunday sessions. We would buy a super fresh loaf of bread, break it in half and fill it with butter and there was tea done! The aroma used to permeate the neighbourhood and it was always something to behold.

I try to get up that way a couple of times a year - can’t believe I haven’t stopped there before. Will give it a try.

I feel next time I go I will be returning quite fatter than when I left - that bakery, Ohana cidery, Mammino ice cream. Sheesh.

Oh boy, this is my kind of thread - I love bakeries.

My current favourite WA bakery is Crossings Bakery in Pemberton... but I do admit I need to visit a lot more to choose the best. They are well awarded for their pies though, and the jam & cream donuts are the best I've ever seen, with most sugar coating I've seen, and two shots of jam

Went to Morrall's bakery Bourke today.

Not the best.

My pastie contents were more like a pie? Gravy meat with a few veggies thrown in?

The bee sting was stale, tasteless and full of cream instead of custard? I do like cream but not in massive quantities. No honey flavour whatsoever.

The soft drink was quite nice.

As I haven't checked in since my original post and, as the thread has grown exponentially... I feel I need to add Burkhardt's Organic of Pt Macquarie to the list. I called in on my way to Sydney last year and their pies, sausage rolls and cherry/cheese strudel were awesome to say the least. And all organic to boot. Highly recommended as a sneaky drop in whilst on the road. (sorry if this has been added previously).

Nagambie seems to have changed ownership/ direction and signage . now has Vietnamese sandwich bar as a feature in the door ,as well as bakery. tried a sausage roll , i feel its not the same , maybe ive changed , maybe its them..

Can anyone recommend a good bakery for Christmas fruit minced pies in southern Adelaide?

My usual source from the bakery in Woodcroft has ceased to exist. Went there today and closed for good by the looks.

dont know about minced farts, but a great little place on Beach Rd Christies Beach, heading west its on the north side just before the last traffic lights. they have won a few awards for their goods. Google ,aps shows it as CJs bakery 39 Beach rd

another option would be the Croissant place in Lonsdale, mentioned somewhere on this page

I'll save that thought for after lunch on Christmas day.

Looks like I'm going on a multi-bakery reconnaissance mission tomorrow. The sacrifices I make for my family.
