Just wondering what people are doing after their extended warranty of 5 years on the gearbox has expired and they are still experiencing problems with the gearbox. Does it become tough luck then and no further help from Ford?

Ford sent a letter to owners of vehicles saying that they will extend the warranty for 5 years.

Here are some links to information about this --

They're clearly just buying time until they can dust off their hands and say "not my problem any more".

How, after years of this crap have they still not found a resolution, beyond ridiculous... then they give an insulting trade in offer like $1,500 bucks for a 2012 Fiesta so you can enjoy the privilege of owning another ****box thai built ford.

I have a WT 2012 manual Fiesta, I wouldn't say the Thai built cars are crap, I have no problem with mine (75,000 Km). The problem with these cars is the Power shift transmission, otherwise I think they are very good, especially for the price. My CL manual was $15,000 drive away, I have no complaints at all so far, that said $1500 is rediculous.

Our WT came fresh from the factory, brand new only delivery KM with big yellow paint drips in the sills, which the dealer then "fixed" by buffing them back... past the clear coat down to the base coat... a problem they "fixed" by giving us aluminium scuff guards for free (so nice of them, FREE!). The paint on the rear spoiler is faded and cracked (no it hasn't been mistreated), the fuel guage stopped working last year and the radio has never worked properly despite 5 separate trips to the dealer about it.

Parts of the exhaust have also been replaced because it came new with a faulty muffler......... a faulty muffler.

Not including the obvious 4 times it's been back for gearbox "fixes". Should start billing those dropkicks for our time.

My Fiesta ST has been nearly faultless, however.

My 2011 WT Zetec has been faultless in terms of performance.
Only a steering wheel shaft, which the dealer pointed out, needed replacement.
60,000 plus and never misses a beat.

My 2011 Wt zetec was mostly faultless. Only let down by fords customer service. For example car kept stalling in the heat. Cause was a filthy air cleaner and throttle body. Obviously not checked at the services. When I raised the issue they needed to see the car stall so they could fault find because the computer said nothing.
Took it to ultra tune and he diagnosed it before even looking at the car. Never went back to a ford.
Otherwise car was hard to fault.

The following is a comment from one person regarding this article - thought I would post their comment here for those people who might be interested. Please note this in NOT my comment but one made by another person --

I am a transmission specialist and have had the unlucky pleasure of working on these transmissions they are talking about.

It’s the Power Shift transmission from ZF in Germany. It was also used buy Mitsi and VW and a couple other manufactures. It is actually 2 manual transmissions - 1st is 1,3,5 gear the second is 2,4,6. It also uses 2 Hydraulic clutch assemblies. The trans when drive or a gear is selected puts the trans in 2 gears at once 1st and second. Now we all know that locks the vehicles trans. But in this case, being 2 seperate transmissions(manuals) and two separate wet clutches one clutch on the first gearbox will lock the second clutch stays off. This allows motion to take effect. The problem occurs when the trans valve body receives late throttle response which causes a delayed trans reaction and then it’s just confused and does not know what gear it should be in. So, it will start to jump hop and thump a bit until it sorts it out. Its the trans going from one gear to another. This has server problems with the clutch hubs which are switching from one to the other many times in a few seconds. The fix for it There isn't one. It’s an inherent problem and proves cars are no longer tested only designed and built. Problems sorted out after through warrantee.

A good idea that has been badly used. It comes from F1 originally. OH and I also can tell you if you change one of these trans missions you MUST go online to ZF and pay $40 Australian dollars for them to allow the trans to accurately use the cars computer. It will work but the thumping and jerking between two gears will be worse.

Basically, it’s a twin manual trans that is operated by a hydraulic valve body the same as an auto and has two auto trans clutch hubs that lock independently between gears one on 1,3,5 the other on 2,4,6 gear. And they are FAR too SMALL for the car. That's my opinion anyway. It’s the relation of the trans to throttle to computer that is causing the problems. The complaint and rightly so is the trans shutters jerks and thumps, This is because when the computer lags on response to the throttle the trans grabs as it has not come of 1 gear and in to the next fully so the trans experiences a short time of lock up or 2 gears at once , The shudder is the clutches slipping as something has to give or the wheels would lock and as pressure is coming of one and coming on the other they both drag and slip a bit causing the thumping and jerking, Lerches form one gear to another. And No ZF have NO FIX for it. And are not going to make one.

This box is no longer made and was finished by 2012. It was dropped because it was to problematic. It was only used for a couple of years and buy some very big names not just Ford.

The person who wrote that article has absolutely no idea. Box is not made by ZF, no valve body in trans, yes still being used in Ford US/Europe as Focus Ambiente still has the Powershift Trans (we don't get the Ambiente here anymore) just to point out some of the wrong information in that comment and there is more...

There is no credibility to this at all...

I stopped reading at wet clutch. This thread isn't even about the wet clutch transmission.

the tcm failed on our driveway, had to tow the car to the dealer.

When they were done with it the car miraculously had a ****ed engine mount that was fine before they changed the clutch packs for the 4th time.

Every time my partner takes her car to a ford dealer they treat her like a moron who wouldn't know better, meanwhile she's more informed about the bull**** problems with these cars than they are.

We're getting rid of it, and I'm going to sell my ST too, hopefully the ST doesn't catch fire between now and then since apparently that's a thing with these motors now.11

I bet they never supported the engine when they removed the trans. This puts added pressure on the mount which then fails and creates a vibration.

Yep, and now we have to pay more money for the fact that they've had their faulty piece of crap transmission out 4 times.

It's a pity the problems they have with these cars, first the long running problems with the Powershift transmission, now the 1.6 turbos have cracked heads that lead to oil leaks that leads then to engine fires. Also another thread in the Fiesta section where a 1.0 litre Ecoboost Fiesta has "internal problems" at 18,000Km. My manual WT CL Fiesta has been fine, good little thing to drive (over 76,000Km on it now), but it doesn't give you any confidence buying anything new with an Ecoboost engine, or of course anything with a Powershift transmission. My wife drives a 08 Forester with 150,000Kms, I would have condsidered a Kuga especially a 2.0 Ecoboost to replace it some time down the track, but I'm losing confidence in the long term durability of these engines. Hopefully the problems with the 1.6 turbos are limited to just those engines.

My 2014 Trend has had 2 upgrades with no fix,it is getting worse so took it in to the local dealer and let them hook it up to the tester and took it for a drive, came back and said it shuddered, but its 200 and Ford won't touch it until it gets to 500.Not sure what this thingrecords but it records your VIN number on the test.Rang Ford and was told this is common for country cars but if I lived and drove in the city it would definitely get to 500.Some city dealers are doing 10 a week with the new clutch plates and apparently having good results. So the saga continues for me.

The 1.6 EcoBoost engines are susceptible to an issue that could cause the head to crack and could lead to an engine fire. You say it like every example is cracked and will hand grenade at any moment.

Give consumer affairs a call in your state.
This is a known issue and the fact that it actually has been recorded shows that the transmission is "not fit for purpose".
For Ford to make an arbitrary line in the sand is ridiculous. Especially when they admit that the more stop start driving you do the worse the problem is.
Isn't stop start driving the reason for buying an auto?

My dealer tests the transmission this way. Loads the car with 4 beefy workshop staff.
Ask them to do this. Tell them it plays up with full load.
