I always say of a job “The last twenty minutes takes four hours” to summarise late discoveries which challenge timely completion.
This Alfa is true to form, it’s hatched a misfire which I reckon is coil packs. I’ll clean the plugs tonight but not optimistic. If I’m lucky, the fellow at Cromer will have some OEM Bosch available tomorrow morning. Genuine boxed are $500 apiece over the counter at Alfa dealers, and there’s four of them… Car leaves my hands by tomorrow evening. |

…True to form, the flat spare was not five years of being ignored but a fractured brass shell in the valve stem. Who’da thunk it? 9PM and there I was on the workshop bead breaker to get enough clearance for replacing it.

I had 1 thing to do today. My mum is overseas, my brother and sister had to work, same as my aunty and my 3 cousins. Other then my grandma, I was the only other with the free time. So it still is my grandpas 97th birthday. Reason why I didn't make it down to visit was that lovely sweet sweet smell of coolant.

An honourable mention to Valeo alternators with the stator bedded in RTV.
If you need to R&R the stator, it takes 20 minutes of perseverance, then some cleaning up to remove nearly all the silicone. Then you sit the stator back in the front shell, carefully checking and marking its alignment. Next - there’s a fine rubber ring about 1mm across by 3mm tall - you need to poke this evenly down in the front housing around the stator until it registers on the bottom of its machined lip. This centres the stator, and you now fill the tapered gap between it and the front housing with new neutral cure RTV. I honestly doubt in most usage conditions, that it’s any better than a regular setup where the stator is just roughly clamped into the housings by bolt tension. These alternators compare poorly to Mitsubishi of the same era, for serviceability. |

Anything I find is handed into the nearest police station, much easier with no hassles.

I bloody hate customers that make a booking, agree to a time, dont turn up for their booking cos they slept in, then proceed to give me a 1 star google review because i couldn’t get them in later in the day…..

Yeah, that'd suck! Is there opportunity to reply to their rating to explain the circumstances from your end?

I always check the lower reviews to find out why. More often than not it's the customer that caused issue.
If doctors and other professionals charge for missed/cancelled appointments, maybe reply to disingenuous reviews with a kind disregard for the review. A customer can screw you once, a bad customer will screw you twice. |

We just reply to the review. Most people would read the reply and make their own mind up. In 1 case a person gave us a bad review, then took us to consumer affairs. We provided documentation and video evidence to absolutely 100% clear us, consumer affairs guy was happy we had no case to answer. I told him I felt sorry for him dealing with these people all day every day. I asked him if he could then make the person remove the negative review, No sorry, he can only ask them to I guess at the end of the day 99.9% of people/customers are great - it's just the .1% that can **** your day up

There is a clear change where this is now more acceptable due to how many people are watching crap on their phones. Portrait content for portrait device. Still ****s me. Landscape is natural. Our eyes are not on top of each other, they are side by side. |

Had to be evacuated from our hotel at midnight in Lucerne Switzerland.
Idiot 2 rooms down was drying clothing on a lamp which caught fire. Alarm going off, I take a quick look in the hallway, lots of smoke and people running for the stairs. Grabbed my back pack, wallet, phone and passport and bolted. Fire brigade rocked up, all sorted, back to bed an hour later. Couldn't sleep of course.

I have somehow managed to brick my laptop during an Ubuntu update. Usual process is to create a startup disk and boot from USB. That didn't work so did inplace upgrade and same ****.
I know it's something to do with the video card because I can login via terminal and the boot splash is new but after a hundred commands later no dice so going to try to go back to Win7 then try again to reset it again. |
