Fortescue’s marketing department would agree with that.

Those are the storms that have come across from Adelaide (you’re welcome). It’s doing my head in, twice in 2 days I’ve had to pull up stumps and hide from lightening, rain one minute, then the burning sun comes out to make it humid, next it’s a howling gale. My lungs and eyes are full of crap, and the lawns are growing inches per day.

Pretty much it. And for the record, it was 35.5 degrees at 3pm today. I was also having trouble breathing.

You’ve travelled, how does it (inland Vic heat) compare to places like Ganmain on a 35° day with stiff hot breeze from the south? I’ve only spent time in Echuca and that was warm in peak summer.

I was actually going to write country Victoria and southern NSW in that statement all very similarly hot dry conditions for weeks over summer.

Most of the summer charges come blowing in from the south west, my go to was if its going to be hot in Adelaide one day, 2 days later it will be super hot there. Only difference is coastal SA will have their storms and things will settle.

South west changes that make it as far as the Vic/NSW border usually have to be large ones with a couple of day of rain to help cool.
Otherwise it is like DFB states turns it into a humid hot bath for a day then back to hot dry conditions.

Eyre Peninsula SA is usually 5* cooler in summer than Adelaide and 4* warmer over winter.
Summer its the water on 3 sides then across 1 gulf to Pirie and sweet hell its often 8-10 warmer in summer than us. Last week it was 18* warmer

The western suburbs of the Gc today were 35

I was doing a delivery in a semi rural suburb called Worongary. Road works we’re taking place and one lane was closed so I had to wait a while for a green light
A traffic controller nearby the car a young blonde girl was really struggling in the 34 degree plus humidity
The gear traffic controllers have to wear in heat is obscene
Hard hat
Long sleeve shirt
Long pants
Boots
And a high viz over the shirt
Surely their bodies are overheating - it’s unsafe work practice

Was positively beautiful today, light cool breeze, warm but not horribly uncomfortable like yesterday. I guess this doesn't belong in the "hate" thread.

My partner once worked on a hotmix patching gang, where she had to do stop and go duties as well.
I can remember the inclement weather temp for all outdoor workers then was 34deg.
Problem these days is, everyone has since given up their own workers rights through fear of being sacked if they spoke up.

And weeds, yep I hate that. Ducked off the roadside maybe 60km before, to see a man about a dog, and spotted this horror in rude health.

I didn’t notice any, but the old station is steadily falling down. Whole place is going to #2, that idiot burning down the servo probably hasn’t helped.

No, really sad. Once put in a proposal there to convert the line into a railtrail back to Wagga via Muttuma and onto Gundagai/tumut.

NSW RTA at the time said we are burying the tracks when the bypass gets done. Didn't think they are allowed to do this as the tracks are still down.
They couldn't even be bothered building a tunnel under the Superslab where the existing line is for the future.

Would have brought cyclist to the area, may have even saved the pub and motel but no, cost to much. NSW one day is going to wake up and realise just how much cycle tourism makes for country town economies.

No vision these people.

Just about happens to me every year.

I work for a small family business that is open 7 days a week. Because I'm not part of their family, and I basically have no family or children, why would I need time off at Christmas, right?

This is not to disrespect those who have decided to have children, a significant other, a family, but it's like society deems me an invalid human because I don't, and that somehow I wouldn't know hardship because I chose not to bring another human into the Earths hell hole. They way society is built, and the mechanics around it, means if you don't fit that specific mold, you spend your life on the backfoot.

The above probably should be in the depression thread.

And yes, I'm working tomorrow too................but hey, merry-fu.king-Christmas and happy holidays........or not.

I worked in an emergency service for nearly 40 years, was entitled to every 3rd Christmas off. Still managed to drop by home once in a while whilst working and have a fruit mince pie with my family.

Both Mumma Bear and I were the same, she is a ICU nurse/unit manager, me on call 24/7 in my previous life. I even got to cruise the harbor on Boxing day on the PL Valiant (back when you could get away with doing that)

Once we had a kid things improved for us but it was normal for both of us that with no kids we would work for those with preteen kids, and they did the later shifts.

Even with my own workshops I always took on Christmas and Easter, my staff all had little ones and then I take time off when it suited me.
Best amount of call outs on Christmas day/Boxing day (7) Some I couldn't fault but still had to swap them over.

Sometimes its annoying especially if you have someone who just has to have a whinge about the Boss getting Toil, some just don't think and seem to believe that I enjoyed being at work and not at home have a feed or a beer etc.

It all works out in the long run.........so I've been told.

Yep, know the feeling, in another life.
I know that in 18 years I worked 9 Christmas days, despite me putting my name on the list to be rostered off.
Boxing Day, New Years eve or day, Easter, Anzac Day ..... what did they mean to me ........ time and a half, or double time, or a day in lieu, and at the meal break, complimentary bowls of chips and nibbles and a can of Coke, and the well-wishing (joke ha ha) of the great unwashed general public.

Aussie grown, Asparagus today $3.90 a bunch.

No, supermarkets aren't ripping us off.
Lettuces did the same thing in our local woolies:

Prior to the week before xmas: $2.
Week leading up to xmas: $4
Xmas eve: $3.50.

Haven't been near the shops since, so don't know what the current price is.
