That billboard is no longer owned by Ford or on Ford land. Lately it's been used as advertising for many various things. The Futura advert is just one that had been covered over a long time ago and whatever was over the top of it has been stripped back. I'd expect it to be covered over again with some different sort of advertising within the next few days.

Thats a bit rough?
I would say that they just didn't put the effort into the B series like they did with all others. Especially Fairlane and LTD. Some absolute pearlers were made, XF Ghia was one of the best along with the AU Fairmont and of course others. LTD's were absolute standouts since the P5 days until the AU. Nothing wrong with the B series ones ...... they just lost their way, possible because of the AU not agreeing with many but they really did put no effort into them like that had in the past. They just let them to wilt and die But anyway ...... they ain't coming back so all a mute point in the context of this thread.

There are a number of Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia owners on this forum. I'm willing to bet that most of them are under 50.

IMO, anyone that truly desires a Falcon, and isn't getting any meds off the PBS, gets an XR. |

Some of us prefers the finer things in life over a "fully hectic" XR.

There were many young guys in Fairmonts (some nicely modified) when I first got my licence and still see a few now.
Name plate has nothing to do with age. Might be worth getting some glasses if you believe otherwise! Quote:
Will be a sad day and I'd hardly call a 5 series BMW (closest comparison to a Falcon/Commodore) as "affordable". Come on, now.

Agreed, my first Xr was about 5 years ago when I was 35, previous to that apart from one 500, all of mine have been fairmonts, after all mechanically, most na Xr's are no different to a fairmont anyway,

The BA/F LWB cars were a stretched taxi that was silver instead of yellow. There is a reason why its "G6E" now. |

Don't judge everyone else by your own (obviously low) standards. I bought my first (of many) new Fairmont Ghia (XF) when I was 20. The only reason I don't own one now (in my mid 40's) is that they don't make them any more.

True. I bought my wife an XR50T (with leather FPV mods etc from new) instead, which is pretty well covers it (G6 interior/dash etc). I don't really see why tradition is such a bad thing to continue with as long as the vehicle lives up to the name, which from where I stand the FG does.

OK ..... Everyone has had a good say on the badges! Can we leave it at that as has nothing to do with the new Falcon? These names won't be coming back. It is not part of what's happening. Let's get back on topic!
Thanks

Surely they would have used the 62 Futura if they were trying to bring back the fond memories/history whilst bringing back the name.

hah yeah i had that pamphlet somewhere, the ED was one of my favourite times in FalcMont history. I remember drooling over the brochure for the Sprint. And looking at the 'optional' massive 16" wheel pack and bodykit options. It was a good time.
in my opinion things are rarely coincidental. Ford has just started teasing with pics of the new Falcon, and suddenly a billboard shows one from 21 years ago. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Ford asked the owner of the board to peel back layers until they got to that one. OR just paid to have a retro ad put back up. why? to provoke chatter on the topic of Falcon, and it's working here at least. Maybe marketing finally woke up?

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if other retro billboards start popping up.
Remember how Holden did the race around Australia to find the hidden photos? I hope that Ford do something unique like that, too. Billboards and tv ads are one thing. Viral social media is where it's at. ~Duke |

latest version of my G6ET concept, with a few colours to change it up a bit. I've added the tan leather interior as seen in some of the spy shots recently. Headlights are as close as i can get based on what we've seen, driving lights still need adjusting but i can't be bothered at the moment. And perspective errors still exist but here they are anyway.
Colours are rough only. Steel Blue, Winter White (With pearl), Havana and Ego:

If the new Falcon looks like the pictures above.
I think the right colours are going to make the car. Love the white also |

I was working on a black one too but most of the detail was lost once i chopped it so i didn't continue with it. Might give it another go later. I also did one in dash which looks hilarious.
it's my favourite too, but ironically it's the only one that i did on the old frame before doing a lot more tweeks to the bonnet. If you look carefully you can still see most of the BOSS bonnet inner hump outline on it. EDIT: have fixed that issue now and a few other things hopefully they bring out a pearl white, it'd be a standout
