It seems both the phone staff for Centrelink are off work today. An hour on hold, no progress.

We appreciate your call, we're experiencing a high demand, you have progressed in the queue, please go away, sorry, we mean, stay on the line.
If there was an actual phone ringing in the office someone would answer, but when it's just a little blinking light no one cares. Don't go near the light.

You'd be surprised how demanding the key performance indicators are for call centre staff, including Centre link. BIL works for them. Stress due to job demands, especially the demand on call turnover, is very high.

I had reason to call the TAC in Vic last week and expected to be on hold for ages, especially when I got the, were experiencing high demand at the moment, but they offered to call me back once my position in the cue got to the front. Allowed me to get in with my work until they called me back. Love that system!

A few gripes from my three days on the road last week.

Victoria seems terrible for weeds, at least as viewed from the Hume. Absolutely appalling. Maybe NSW has different control strategies for the road corridor, or more responsible farmers.

Gundagai, where they used the cover of Covid lockdowns to stealthily demolish the historic railway bridge, hasn’t finished the job in any presentable fashion. It’s a disgraceful tale and the cheap temporary-permanent chain link fence at the town end of where the bridge landed, is an inditement of this cowardly destruction.

Coolac’s historic Beehive Hotel, no real progress save for slashing the grass around it and the adjacent motel. I had honestly been very close to putting my trimmer in the ute in case it still wasn’t done when I came past.

I appreciate that living in a modern society means that there's waste. But I hate waste for the sake of it.

Had need to replace the blade on my edger the other day. The new blade comes with a complete new set of mounting hardware. Is it really necessary to replace all of this gear at such frequent intervals? I get the fatigue element, but surely this is a waste of resources. Especially when metal recycling requires a trip to the tip. Guess most would just throw it in the bin like I did

If there’s an exhaust place nearby, ask if you can put metal in their bin.

I could probs take them to work, go for a walk and throw them into our scrap steel bin.

But I still prefer the reduce, reuse, recycle hierarchy.

Take Two today; I set aside more time and after 1:15 a real person answered. Moreover, the inquiry was resolved so far as possible at this stage. Great to get some traction, and credit to the young woman who was so helpful.

As you know, I have a disabled brother, so dealing with NDIS.
Have a Plan Manager and a Support coordinator that lighten the load a lot.
But now under a revamp, looks like these positions will be axed in the next year or two.
Will be controlled under Centrelink.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

That’s no good. With the constant deferring of aged pension eligibility vs his decline this is likely to remain a lifetime battle for yourselves. Always impressed by how much you care for him.

I have adult son with numerous disabilities, what a godsend is our advocacy outfit, they are worth more than their weight in gold. NDIS were rabbiting on about downgrading plan, just when we are arranging for full time (95%) care, couple of chats with our girl in the know and all appears sweet.

as long as you wear your undies as a shirt....undies still have openings for your arms and head and often a flap for your mouth.

Father hooked his boat and trailer up to the Ranger Wildtrak, drove it 40 minutes out of town to put the thing back in the water after the recent flood threat. Made it almost all the way, most of it sitting on 100 kph, rounded a corner at low speed and CLUNK. Tow bar yanked out of the socket, the chains only just saved it but had mere mm before being the chains letting go after being scraped across the road.

Thankfully, no damage to the car or boat, but the trailer now needs work. Frankly, it's a miracle the thing stayed on there as long as it did, if it had let go at 100 kph, it would have caused the car and trailer to roll. It's a pontoon boat, so the trailer is very wide and long. Also thankful someone was following him to make the trip and lent a helping hand and spare hitch pin.

Apparently, its a thing for the braindead unemployed of Australia to go around removing tow bar hitch pins on unsuspecting motorists under the cover of darkness. From what I have been told, its a common "trick" at the moment.

What I don't get is, the idiot who did this would not have even been there to get a laugh out of the situation. So why do it? Jealously because someone has worked their ar.e off their whole life, and until now had never bought something like this, a reward for actually working to earn something.
