I bit the bullet and bought another "classic" car a couple of weeks ago. A 1982 bronco XLT, Aus delivered, 351c/C6, ok shape, rooted motor. Needs half Resto (no/minimal bodywork)
$16k.
This is my 2nd 1982 bronco XLT with a 351c.
The last one I paid $4k for 5 years ago, restored it over 12 months and sold it for $21k fully done and ready to go.
A bit of FOMO on my behalf, and I'd be lieing if I said it hasnt kept me up a few nights knowing how overpriced it is, but I wanted another one and I just don't see anything like this going down in price.
I looked high and low for that bargain one too and it just doesn't exist, with the likes of Facebook marketplace, everyone knows what they've got and what they can get for it. I put a post up in all the bronco groups wanting a really bad base to start with and they were all within $5k of each other.
I even looked in the USA, same prices but plus freight.

Absolutely crazy times and prices. I'm glad I've got another one in my shed but it shouldve cost half what it did

My brother just purchased a 2016 VFII SS-V redline sedan for $54,000 with nearly 80,000km on the clock.

That is what they cost new in 2016!

From watching the auctions, looks like things are beginning to 'normalise'. Lot of cars not reaching anywhere near what they were last month, and last month they were reaching slightly less than similar cars were getting in September. Even some of the local stuff - HSVs still up on what they were 18 months ago, but far less than just months ago

Agreed, people still trying with some high prices but they are hanging around longer.

Same with caravans, seem to be on the market for longer and seeing more price reductions.

Understandably given interstate/international travel is being put back on the table again

Caryards over here in WA seem to be getting greedy, private cars that are reasonably priced are snapped up rather quickly and advertised online the next day (sometimes with the same photos)

Seen a FG F6 ute disappear from Gumtree at 36k only to pop up at 43k 2 days later at a dealer, curiously got the better of me and I stopped past the dealer 2 weeks later to take a look at the car and it wasn't on the lot - still in the "workshop"

The salesman was telling me how good it was and it's rare to see such a tidy ute, maybe it's just taken 2 weeks to pull the club fg sticker off.. not sure, but alas the price jumped to 48k must have been my visit to the yard to ask about it.. w@nkers

Still the worst car Holden ever made, such junk. The interior of my R8 was falling apart with rattles everywhere at 60,000km.

Never crashed or thrashed. And my Richardhead brother does not have much of a life outside of work so genuinely low mileage. Reason for recent VIC number plates is he lived in Perth until 2019 so car had WA plates from new until his move.

Picked up an FG XT in lightning strike today, country car owned by 1 family since 2012 and serviced by a mechanic in the family.
Done a few k's and needs a couple of things like drivers seat base foam and power mirror switch but apart from that in real tidy condition, no diff bush noise, trans smooth.
Picked it up for $4k.

Brought it home, detailed it and gave the headlights a resto.

Fiesta, but yes, first time i've owned an FG personally but liked the way my Sons XR6 drives.

That only leaves XB and FGX as models ive never owned from XA onwards.

Yep, love the way my son's XR6 FG drives (2011 Limited edition with the really nice interior, too)

Good choice.

It would appear that while used cars are being advertised at high prices, they are not selling all that quickly.

The real estate industry has an auction clearing rate and monitors days on the market data - it would be interesting if there was similar data for the auto industry too.

I've got my Caprice listed for stupid pricing, I got a tonne of interest when it was impounded though so the people who wanted to see it couldn't

I don't really want to let it go but of someone throws silly money at me for it I will.

I just purchased a 2015 FGX XR6 Turbo Ute with 57,000Klms on it.

I paid virtually the new price for it as if it was delivered from Ford, it was priced ridiculously high to begin with.

Took a week to finalise the deal due because of the price.

The other Plus is i sold my old FGII for virtually the same price i paid for it 5 years ago.

We just got rid of or VF SV6 Wagon...the drive is woeful in these things.

The GM V6 engine torque is basically either on or off, it doesnt have the smooth power delivery that the Barra does.

The Auto felt and drove like the old 4/5 speed Ford ones did, thumping into gear rather than the smooth change you expect. The only thing going for them is the interior is modern and thats about it.

There's this rumour floating around FB G6E that Shannons reckon G6ET's will be the next big thing.
At a September Car Show out here got offered $31k for mine.
2010 50th 138,oookm Nice tune to 330kw.

As its the retirement Town Car, I'll wait & see.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

We have one as a company car - the VF SV6, the killer is how doughy the throttle is mapped, then it has no torque under 4500 RPM, the pedal does nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing then its like now we're going, its like it has a huge dead zone.

Plus how slow the trans is to react to your throttle inputs, I reckon its a combination of the throttle mapping taking ages to react to your inputs and then the lack of torque making it worse.

My solution is get stuck into it everywhere

Its a shame because aside from that its a great car, the stereo is a bit average though.

It's one of those situations where if you offload it you probably won't get another one as nice or around the same price.
