My wife came home from work, apologising that she had spent some money. I asked her about it, and one of the ladies at work seemed a bit down, so she asked how she was going. Both her parents are unwell, and aging, so after work she goes and does all their housework, cook their dinner and prepare the next days breakfast and lunch.

Then she goes home to clean up after her hubby and kids, get their meals ready, and she was just worn out. My wife asked who was looking after, or helping her out, and she burst into tears.

My wife went out during lunch and got her a big bunch of flowers, with a card saying, “Even if it’s not shown, there’s always someone who appreciates you”.

It was no doubt written much better than my recount, but it mad a world of difference to this lady’s mood.

The supermarket scenario above just made me feel sad for society. The workers at the checkouts don’t make store policy. Let them have a good day too.

On Wednesday night my stove went bang while cooking veggies for tea. Arc'ed out and even cracked the glass front on the fascia from the instant heat. Scary as I was only a few feet away. Not game to even try fixing a 40 plus year old stove that could arc again so i decided to go last night (Friday)after work to buy cheap twin portable cook top from a fairly local Mitre 10 until I can organise a new permanent unit next time i'm in the city and can get a sparky to wire it in. Might be a few weeks.

Driving along at about 70 kmh in solid rain up a left curve incline in my AU when with no warning I found myself going sideways towards trees and a steep drop . Managed to correct it enough to get out of that pickle but then sliding the other way toward a cut out banktop and finished up facing 180 degrees from where I was traveling. When i finally got control of the car I tipped gently into a water channel about three metres off the road . I just sat there wondering what had just happened . Luckily no other traffic either way so I managed to get the car out of the shallow gutter and got out to inspect damage,

To my total amazement once my heart rate dropped back to an acceptable level I realised that there was no damage at all. Didn't hit anything on this quite narrow confined section of B road. What made me feel good was that I didn't hurt anybody else (pure luck) and that my dear old AU survived too , not to mention myself and my border collie and kelpie who were with me.

All I can put it down to is hitting a patch of oil on the road made dangerous from a recent hot dry spell then steady rain because the tyres are perfectly fine and wasn't traveling very fast at all due the the solid rain.

After a minute or two I drove off nervously and slowly to collect my stuff and then the same all the way home. Just shows you how easy and unexpected things like that can happen ..Happy I escaped what could have been real nasty.

That's right. I always say hello, even if it's a robotic response from the often uninterested person. The ones who are a bit more alive will often have a quick 15 second chat about how hot it is, or what the centre are doing with the carpark etc. It's just nice to have mutual respect as humans. I've heard on more than one occasion that I'm the first person in the last 5, 10 or whatever number of customers who has actually said hello back to them. That's pretty sad.

But in saying that, there are some employees who are so zoned out, that you'd need to zap them with a defib to get a hello, and they are only making it worse for the good staff around them.

This is where Bunnings have done well - as much as the "greeter' can be a bit annoying at times, they perk people up, and those manning the registers are always chirpy with their hello - almost nobody can stay silent when faced with that! It just makes everyone feel good when a greeting is returned.

Our Silky Bantam turned 8 a couple of weeks ago and had been a bit clucky so as a present we bought her some fertile eggs to sit on.
Woke up this morning to find her parading 4 new chicks around the yard.
Grinning from ear to ear.

Well, what made me feel good today was getting to wake up and hold my little boy after he and mum came home from the hospital yesterday. Driving back and forth to the hospital blows.

Getting a cheque from the insurance company.

It only took 10 years, several court appearances and the intervention of the ombudsman.

This happened a while back, but I was reminded of it when I came across the letter as I was filing stuff in the study.

Phone rang one day:
"Is that Mick"
me: Yes
"It's xxxx from Austereo, you recently answered one of our MMM music jury surveys"
me: Yes
"Well we're giving away 5 hundred dollar gift vouchers, and you've won"
me: Wow, $500, awesome
"sorry sir, I should have said 5, 100 dollar vouchers, it's only $100"
me: hey that's fine, $100 is still great, thanks.
"we have all your details to post it out, can I just confirm it's xxxxxxx"
me: yep, that's right.
And a few days later it arrived.

I never thought I'd ever chance winning something from the MMM music jury, but it paid off.

So taking my grandparents who are in their 90s to lunch is nice, but its not what made my day today. We went for lunch which is fine, and we went to the spot my grandparents like which is also fine. Being of the vintage they are my grandparents usually have a light lunch. I had my mum and son with me and mum made the order. Mum ordered a single with 2 plates for my grandparents. The idea being they split it. 2 meals came out and I asked the question fully to pay for it had there been a misscomunication. But no, they were just looking after the old folk. Good service is one thing, but this is just next level.

My parents met my gf for the first time this weekend. We went out to pizza and a movie on Friday night, then my gf cooked us dinner and dessert Saturday night.

Pretty sure she scored some major points with the chocolate brownies she cooked for dessert. It was a good weekend.

Bought myself a decent camera, have not had a proper camera since I sold my Pentax 35mm SLR camera a long time ago. I used be an avid photographer, even learned how to develop my own photos back in the day, but never bought the set up to do it at home

Can't wait to take some nice photos and video.

Also comes with a 16mm to 55mm lense and a 60mm to 200mm lense

Now to wait for the posty to bring it

Curious, what did you get?

There was a time I used to enjoy photography, but so many other things became "more important". One day I might dig out all my old equipment and relearn how to take photos.

I have done a lot of research and I am on a budget as funds unfortunately are not unlimited.

I ended up with a Sony Alpha A5000 with a Sony 16-50mm lense and an additional 55-200mm Sony lense, also came with all cables, charger, battery, instruction manuals and a matching Sony Alpha camera bag to fit all components.

It is second hand, but all parts come in their original box with almost no use and I picked the lot up for the price of the 60-200mm lense.

The reasons for my decision after watching countless reviews was : flip over screen, picture quality, great video capability, fast focus, fast start up, compact design for portability, Wifi for instant picture transfer to various devices.

Here is two good reviews there is plenty more:

It's a good feeling to get back into the gym after injury. I had to take a break throughout November/December due to health issues too and it made me feel like a new man to get into it again.

Cheers.

Looks like a good camera, especially considering everything you got with it. I've got a couple older digitals, a Canon Rebel XT with the CF memory chip (tells the age) and a Canon Power S2 IS (?).

A couple 35MM cameras too. I would need to take a refresher course to learn how to use them properly again. The Konica Auto S2 in particular. The Minolta 3000i I could probably figure out how to use in auto mode wityh a litle help from google. The last time I used them the grocery store carried the film. I have no idea where to buy it, except the internet these days.

Have fun with it.

Today I spotted a Hot Chilli Red EL XR6 with optional body kit and 16'' alloys in absolutely perfect condition. Clearly resprayed but an absolutely magnificent example and very obviously the pride and joy of its owner.

As many of this generation of Falcon has been consigned to the scrap, it so great to see a preserved and well looked after example.

Made me smile and therefore felt good today.

I feel it, there's an el xr8 that parks in a building i do work in. I've done work in that place for over a decade and its always a clean car. Always waxed but the roof is fading. Everything else looks well cared for so id consider it a diamond in the rough.

I see a grey XR8 getting around the Norwest area some mornings - 18" or so 5-spoke billet wheels. Not perfect, but well kept for it's age, and sounds good. I keep trying to find him in the traffic to let him know I have a NOS rear spoiler LED light for it, as it has quite a few of the LEDs out.

Think your self lucky. I have 6 fingers and one leg and 15% brain loss , not much can be done to make me feel like man except drive my 440kw and 750nm . Going to up date the poully soon to get 600kw and 800 nm at the wheels. I know the 4 speed has been criticized but im going to give it hell until it breaks,. Only a 3000 dollar echange anyway.
