Was telling mumma bear about this and she looked at me like she usually does (as if I'm bloody mad and she'd be right) and asked when was the last time I saw a phone booth and if I did find one, what would be the chances that it would work? Terry |

Yes, calls can be made for free from all Telstra public phones. The free service started about a year ago.
https://www.telstra.com.au/exchange/...alls-australia There is still a fair number of public phones in the Sydney suburbs. I also noticed a phone booth in that photo of Coolac posted by CB recently.

Had some basecoat mixed by code for a Euro on Thursday. Stirred it up, dabbed out a couple of samples onto masking tape and when dry, put them on different parts of the damaged vehicle. The match is refreshingly close and will blend nicely when required.

That's unusual, every time I get paint mixed its minimum 2 shades out every time, even if I get the self proclaimed Paint Legend at work to do it

Precisely. I did the samples to see just how wrong it was; my expectations were similar to yours.

Just been smashed by a massive storm and I'm caught out in it .
Hail the size of say golf balls, arrived home and expected the worse, as in 1 very dented BT50 and worse my 651 Coromal parked in the back yard. Waited until all done and went and had a gander. No damage that I can see in either the Mazda or the caravan. After Chrissy I'll give both a good wash and reinspect but I think I've dodged a bullet. Merry Christmas to me and all of you, and if ya offended by my religious greetings then all I can say is "pi**orf!!" Terry aka Tbro. |

With a forecast 20 to 40mm rain today, we were expecting a wet Xmas day. Whilst it was overcast and windy, the rain held off until around 5pm.

This is now in the wrong thread, but as it continues the theme, I'll put it in here anyway.
We had 40mm of rain in less than 50 minutes this morning. My yard looked like a swamp. In excess of a dozen notices for flooding assistance requests coming through on the Vic emergency notifications for my watch area. And more rain to come today.

I’m actually looking forward to some work this week, it’s the culmination of months in diverted activities and finally a few ducks are lining up properly. The freebies are falling back towards a healthy perspective, ute going well, weather not hostile.

Island cafe isn't up to par on Thursday's (different cook) but problem solved cook your own.
Buttered Pane Casa, bacon, pork and funnel sausage, blanched spinach, blistered cherry tomatoes and open range scrambled eggs. Bloody electric stove doesn't get the bacon crispy enough. Give me gas anyday.

The tenant of my mum's rental had been talking about an old tree stump in the backyard being a trip hazard. Taking the hint as to where this was going, I decided to take advantage of the wet weather of late and dig the stump out today.
Expecting it to take me at least the day, I was pleasantly surprised to find I had the stump out and hole rehabilitated within 2 hours.

Finished my cutting job (in the rain), returned my hire gear 15 minutes before closing, awesome counter bloke hammered the invoice into shape and I walked out for only $680. All this including a nasty bout of gastro overnight that saw me start much later this morning.
Had I sublet this work it was north of $2200 and not do-able before mid January. So I can pass on a saving (cost, time) to the customer, do nicely myself and feel generally happy. This time last year I could barely move with back pain. |

So, I have found a new rabbit hole..............home audio. I tend to watch/listen to music via Youtube, so I get both sight and sound into the mix. I've been running that through a basic Sony soundbar and wireless sub, before switching to an early 2000's Panasonic Hi-Fi system, both via an analog connection.
This sort of thing, oh how 2000's that thing looks today............... I actually decided to try this for TV audio after being underwhelmed with the Sony soundbar. After realizing how much I value good audio and the amount of music I listen to, I decided to spend a bit of money on an upgrade. But in doing so, I needed to buy the correct cable. My TV has a combined 3.5mm aux jack/optical output, something I only discovered the other night. So, I ordered the cable in anticipation of the new gear. That cable arrived today and out of interest, I connected it to the Sony soundbar.............. Wow, what a difference an optical cable can make to the sound output of a sound system! Of course, I naturally wonder why I spent so much on upgrades when the single cable probably would have been sufficient. But............I have another use for the sound bar, the old Panasonic not so much. As much as anything, this bloody cable has made me super pumped for the new stuff coming!

I took my old 3 disc rotary sound system to revolve the other day but they only kept the the speakers as the motor for the disc I suspect is blown. Radio and tape were fine.
I have mums old Panasonic 5 disc stacker 2.1 with a tape player but also has a USB and music port but plenty enough power for a townhouse. I'm going to buy an enclosure for one of my spare SATA drives to hook it up. Always good to have CDs though although my burned ones are getting long in the tooth and USB random on this is slow as **** |

My cheap 5.1 Voxson surround from Dick Smith has an optical input and worked well nearly 20 years ago but my laptop does not have one.
I use my cars RCA leads to 2.5mm adapter that is well worn out for my laptop to run 2.1 |

Finally had a day warm enough this summer to warrant a zooper dooper.
My daughters been chugging through them but it just hasn't been warm enough for me. First day around 30 in ages.

We've had two days of severe weather warnings for heavy rainfall in my area, with today expected to be the worst. With four large lawn jobs scheduled for today, the forecast didn't impress me much.
Instead of swapping my day off from Tuesday to Monday, and after checking the radar, I decided to roll the dice and press on. Worst case, I would have less jobs to do tomorrow. Halfway through the first job, it started to rain and I was ready to throw in the towel, actually I needed a towel after getting wet. But it eased off again and I got to my second job with pitch black sky and thunder rumbling from the north. I got through that job and then rolled the dice again for my final two jobs, which are two adjoining properties. Thankfully, the rain held back and I got through it all. JOBS DONE! Now I can enjoy a full day off tomorrow.
