If I had the option, for my own protection, I'd have it off. Second gear in the SC Coyote is simply license losing inducing if you nail it. 3rd too.

Anyway, you can set the backfill/backlight (screen, basically) to go after - I have mine set to 1 minute so I know it's on and working, but so it doesn't light up the inside of the car at night.

lol I bet the territory owner was deemed at fault and got his car crushed under hoon laws despite the ute clearly cutting him off and not paying attention.

Yeh, they collided as the light went red. The ute has right of way since he was completing a turn from within the intersection, but the SX simply drove straight through a red effectively.

That night vision is quality! I'm just getting worried with the amount of idiots on the road, I trust myself as a driver and so far have not had any accidents or even been hit luckly, just want some extra insurance since I know a few friends who've been in bingles and it comes down to whose at fault....Even when its clearly one way or another

Yep, and while both chew the road up with ease, there is a big enough difference to be noticeable....but this is not the thread for arguments of turbo vs SC.

That is why a "crash cam" is pretty much the first thing I install. And at $75 for front and rear coverage, the one I linked to on ebay is worth it. You can get the same cam cheaper direct from China, but it takes 3 to 5 weeks, whereas buy from the Aussie seller, and you keep him in a job, and you get the cam in 3 to 5 days.

FG GT 0-100 4.9
FG XRT 0-100 4.9 - 5.1 depending on the test

if you reckon that's a big difference you have very good perception lol - it's simply power delivery that differentiates

but yes this is not a debate thread, what i was saying in response to your comment was that both cars fly to the speed limit quickly, but leaving the speed on the video is fine as long as you're doing the right thing most of the time

back to the cams - here are two pics i grabbed from the video not long ago, Victorian speed limits doing what they do - both taken the same day on opposite sides of melbourne

And as for the picture professor farnsworth the second picture is for the otherside of the road, 40 and 60 share the same sign as does 60 and 80 etc etc. But someone did screw up on the first one haha

the sign is facing traffic clearly stating 60 and 'prepare to stop' - if it's meant for the other side it should be blank on the side i can see.

i'm looking at changing to something a little better for the cam in the Rio so have been looking away from the BlackVue range but they have a very good form factor which is very easy to hide behind the mirror and have a few other pluses

either way there are a lot of cameras in cars these days - mandatory in Russia, and in some countries you get a discount on your insurance premium. Here? Nahhhhh.

I think you're quoting F6 times. XR6T is listed as 5.6 seconds for 0-100. Sill fast enough that a dash cam with speed recording cold get you in trouble if you use the footage as evidence.

As mentioned about hiding the camera in case you are at fault.
I suggest coating the unit in strawberry jam. That way if you have an accident and you are at fault, then quickly remove the unit and eat it.

What's the speed limit in the current zones as both those signs are not speed limit signs....they are warnings of speed limited zones coming up.

Was it perhaps a 70 zone your in with a workzone of 60 AND 40 coming up?
They will still put a speed warning sign up even if the limit doesn't actually lower.
Say it's an 80 zone....and the upcoming work zone is 80.....it doesn't matter. The issue is its a work zone coming up.

Great thread guys....am looking into one now

speed limit in top picture was 80 prior to the signs, limit in second pic was 70 prior to the signs. And no, only the top pic shows warnings of a speed zone approaching, which was and still is 60 only, as they work on that stretch and have been for some time. There is no 40 zone ahead, that's the stupidity of it. The second picture is not a warning, it IS a speed limit sign. There is no "AHEAD" on it, that's what Melbourne's roadworks speed limit signs look like. There was only one of them in that stretch and you take your pick as to which one was serious depending on which of the three lanes you're in. Vic has so many speed zone changes, and in some cases, screwed up speed zone markings in roadworks.

With the dash cam, does it make any difference on how much you pay for insurance? Or is it more purely to prove whether you are right or wrong? I will be putting one in my ute anyway to cover myself. I even had one idiot run into the back of me on their push bike last night while I was sitting at the lights :S

Doesn't seem to make a difference to premiums, but may save you some money (excess) if you can show that you were in the right, since you generally get the excess back for most "identify other driver/party" claims.

Wow what a mess.....must make it either REaLLY hard or very easy to get of certain speeding fines near those zones. That's crazy messed up.

Just bought the same as JC.
Would have got 3 but will wait to check out the first unit before I get 2 more.
I had a woman back into me in a carpark. Thankfully the photo I took showed direction of travel due to paint scroll at the end of the scratch.
Even then had to argue my point as both parties used same insurer.
Simple arguement in the end.
Get a hard object & scratch it in the mud. Clean at the beginning & a scroll or pile at the end where it finishes. That shows direction.
Picture or even better video says a thousand words.

Well I've been umming about getting a cam for ages and this thread has convinced me, for $75, you can't go wrong!

So thanks OP for starting the thread and thanks to JC for the recommendation.

Be cussing if someone breaks into my car but be even more pi$$ed if it was for an obvious camera & even worse if it was expensive...well sort of.
Very rarely park my FGF6 out in public.
Wonder if these units are able to turn them selves on from standby / parked, if an impact / collision occurs ?
Some units do but are probably waay more expensive.
