Bought an FG ute last week. Fully decked out in the rear, Canopy, proper roof racks, perfect nic, on Gas, 120,000 k's. $11,500.
The yard (Melbourne Cheapest Cars) had approx 40 Territorys to pick from. The MOST expensive, a 12 month low K was $32,000. Had some tempting Ghia Turbo's for around 18-22k. Cheap cars at the moment and yards like these are churning them out. SHould have seen the line of cars when I picked up mine. Great to buy second hand .... too many cars to pick from and could not buy private these days. Why would you I am sorry to say, unless the car is unique, you know them or the price is silly. Its just too hard to sell and buy privately on 'standard' high priced cars.

I just did a 3 week coach trip around Europe 30 out of the 38 on the coach were ozzies, of the 30 probably 8 over 55 the remainder mid 50's and down to 4 low 20's, our cost over 20k. Some say no money around at the moment maybe for buying cars!!! |

The “big” fall huh.... you keep waiting then, in the meantime I’m enjoying the steadiness, but you keep waiting till you can buy houses at prices pre ’00/GST as I assume that is the market your looking for when you say “big” fall.

Yeah yeah.. Maybe because interest rates are cheap and first home buyers are out and about. As for my car dramas I've sold plenty of cars privately over the last 10 years I guess I'll just have to work harder!!

I'm personally sick of the whole buying/selling process, because it's become a complete joke.
I sold my BA XT with a new F6 bodykit for in the end a ridiculous $1300. The buyer then had the nerve to call me an hour later to ask for a further $100-200 off.... you can imagine what I said in return. Trust me the buyers are out there, but their idea of a good price is well below realistic and right. My car was on Carsales for no BS 20min before the idiot that bought my car called and wanted to look at it. |

Mate, I have I have no problem with selling at the agreed price. My issue was what I stated just above that. The buyer called back an hour later requesting for another $100-200 off the agreed price paid for already in cash.

I've had my GT on Carsales for a few weeks now. Price is where it should be. Only enquiry so far was some drip wanting to swap for a GS.

My bosses son in law is the CFO for Chrysler Australia and according to him they can't get their hands on enough Jeeps
I also have a friend at Hyundai and he is saying the same thing I guess 5 year warranty, fixed price servicing etc must be impacting on the second hand market I just picked up a 2009 WM Caprice 6 litre with 80,000KM for $18k. The car is brand new inside and out The guy that I bought it from said that the only other call he got was from a car yard who offered him $13k Buyers are out there but there are also a lot of cars out there as well. I was told by a dealer that a 5 seater territory has terrible resale. Same with captiva.
he said 7 seater is a must if you buy new. But he said there is a flood of 3 year old territory in market as most people trade in territory due to poor fuel economy. |

The reason they are selling crap loads of Jeeps at the moment is because potential buyers have now seen the new model coming out .......... OMG! WTF have Jeep done!
Prices of Jeeps, Hyundai's etc are just getting cheaper ...... and prices are going to get better. Cheap money with small repayments means second hand market is inundated with cars. I just don't think people are hanging onto cars that long, there are heaps on the market. Lots of reasons to make selling cars privately harder.

The new Jeep coming out is the smaller Cherokee - the Grand Cherokee is continuing on.

When the doors close I think you will see bargains as they try to get rid of stock that is not produced any more, hell it pretty well competitive now if you want to buy a new or used car from the dealerships.

Might be too low or too high, I remember selling an XB GT back in the day and it did not sell for about three or four weeks, I only had a few dodgy callers, then I upped the price and the car sold within the week, funny thing is the buyer talked me down $500 and I still sold it for more than I had it advertised the previous three weeks Assess the market adjust price and go from there, may be your add sounds unappealing, too many KM's bad photos etc etc

^ yep, need to keep the ad looking fresh. Adjust the price, whole new set of photos and under your wife's name sometimes helps. Sure, some people will notice, but they're the one who aren't contacting you to buy it. Only way you will get those ones sitting on the sidelines is with a 5 to 10 % price drop, then one may swoop in and buy it.
You could also list a thread on the highest traffic area of one of the biggest automotive forums on the planet.......oh wait We'll played! |

Unfortunately, in the current market, that's a good price.
Obviously your car looks good, which will help the dealer, and some dealers do pay more because they're prepared to work at selling for a higher price. But the discount dealers would be jobbing it out around 35k, so that's not a lot of meat. I think June & July are bad months to sell privately, but that's just my opinion As for 7 seats vs 5, RWD vs AWD, the stealer will ALWAYS tell you that what you HAVE is unpopular but you have to pay EXTRA for what you want. I've been looking at Turbo Ghias, and frankly I think Ford's pricing of their ToTL models is a giant rip. Unfortunately that comes back to bite YOU in the second hand market. If I didn't want an SY2 Turbo, I'd be buying a TX or TS, and getting Leather fitted.

My brother just bought two new cars for him and the misses. He put his two magnas up for sale, both very compareable on condition, equipment, kms and price. One (the worst one) sold in two hours of going on gumtree, we couldn't believe it. However the other which is only slightly more ($400 I believe) hasn't even got a single call. It's got ~10000 kms less than the other one and a $2k sound system. Doesn't make sense to me.

You can get 2-3yr old mid spec cars coming off novated leases for around 10-20k at auctions. Makes it almost impossible to sell cars privately at that age.

I am actually surprised at the dealer offer, no disrespect intended. But I would expect a near four year old Tezza to be lucky to get 20. New CX5 with a bit of fruit flying out the door for 35k. They have sold over 10,000 of them this year... Use half the fuel etc, more manageable for most etc. Territory is still a great package, don't get me wrong, just that there are now so many reasons out there to choose something else. But Territory overall in world terms, in regards to abilities compared to price against similar sized/driving competitors, particularly in the few last years after it was first launched, is perhaps the best car ever made, again, in comparison to everything similar on the world stage, made in Australia in regards to size/handling/performance in its segment. If only Ford had put the best latest generation engines they could get their hands on in them to really round out the package. But still, a great car, and probably the best thing ever made in this country when held up against the best cars in the world in its segment. just that right now everyone wants something a little bit smaller, and a lot more fuel efficient.

Sound system isn't advesrtised because of that sort of assumption which btw I think is utter crap. I know people think that way but if you are looking for a car and you find one that's slightly modified go have a look anyway as you might be getting someone's pride and joy that been treated like one of their children, esp if it's just audio. Also the unsold car is white without a blemish and better tyres. The one that sold quickly was heritage green with some scuffs on the rear bumper. The guy who inquired and bought the green one looked at the white one and still bought the green one
