The house across the road from me got broken into and I got it on my cc tv cameras at the front of my house,i went and told the cops and also the people who owned the house and neither of them gave 2 ****es,because the rego couldn't be made out the cops said they didn't care and made it sound too much like hard work lol.
From now on I look out for me and my family, everyone else can get stuffed...
In short, unless someone dies or is seriously hurt ive found it better to mind my own business when the law is broken because cops take no interest in people helping them to do their job,its a fact.

Its getting harder to find places to overtake the trucks safely because they are getting longer. When I got my license B doubles had only recently been released and they weren't allowed east of Dubbo.

After a long road trip over the Xmas break and seeing a few (but one P-plater in particular) crazy decisions being made that compromised our safety, I only wish I had a dash cam with me.
The P-plater did teh same as the OPs idiot - overtaking me and then the caravan in front both during double whites and the speed at which he caught up to us and then overtook was seriously over the top. To see the P-plate then made it all the more concerning.
Also had a tail-gater. I'd slow down to let them pass, and they would stay behind. I'd speed up to create a gap and they'd match it right up behind me, Pull to the left at Overtaking Lane and they'd fall in behind me, like I was towing. Bloody annoying, all the way into the next town. Finally got a look at the driver - 65+ female, completely oblivious. I wonder if she knew she was following at over 130 at one point.

Going back about 5 years ago (before I had a dashcam) I watched in disbelief as the idiot from up the street (P plater in a tradie ute) did a similar move over double lines on a semi-rural blind left corner about 1km from home.

(Mind you, I shouldn't have been surprised, as he'd previously wiped out my green waste bin when he lost it doing a burnout, and has also run over my water meter...... Funniest thing was his old man clipping him over the ear and making him sweep up all the grass that had gone all over the road. But he didn't learn....)

I just laughed to myself thinking he'd gain all of 20 seconds, as he would be so close to home. But that gain was quickly lost. Getting closer to home, and into suburbia I came over the crest to find a fresh accident at the crossroads just up the hill. It was so fresh the steam was just rising from the scene - a lady in a Lexus waiting to turn right (with her wheels already turned) had been punted hard up the *** by this ute, pushing her into an oncoming corolla, trapping the male driver in it.

He reckoned the sun was in his eyes and he didn't see her (in the Lexus). I helped her out (airbags & pre-tensioners had been triggered). She asked if I saw it, but I told her I was seconds too late, but I'd just witnessed stupid behaviour further up the road. When the ambo came I left my card with her - wrote my address & home phone on it - and went home.

That night her husband called in to ask me what I saw. Turns out he works for the DPP. Half hour later the cops want a statement from me about what I saw prior to the accident. They were also keen to hear about the previous incidents. Kid wasn't driving for quite some time after that. Whether he lost his licence or simply couln't afford another car I don't know, as the smashed ute sat on their front lawn for quite some time before being taken away by the scrap guys. If he had no insurance he would be paying of $20K or more to the other drivers insurance companies.

I have had one incident where a clown in a BMW claimed I hit him. He was blocking an intersection, and I had to creep around to get past - one side up on the very wide footpath. (Cnr Norwest blvd & Windsor rd Glenwood for those who know it).
In the process I ran over a Coke can. When the cops came to visit me I showed them the footage - you could clearly see the can, and hear the "crunch" from it that he claimed was me hitting him. They also looked at the side of my car & said thanks for the footage and the explanation, end of story, see ya'

Sad thing these days is that this is becoming the norm, drivers total disregard of the road rules, I see incidents about every week with some nob head knowingly breaking the law endangering others.

My turn now. Coming home from Bunnings I was second behind a car in the RH lane stopped at a red light. The light goes green and then the bloke in front of me props, because a car is coming through the intersection at a great rate of knots. The poor bugger in the LH lane was not so lucky and got hit above his drivers wheel. I have it all on my dash cam. The bloke running the light appeared as if he was in la la land as he made no attempt to slow down or stop.

This is true on a lot of roads nowadays that never had double white lines and now they do and have dropped the speed limit from 100 to 80 and you can see fine to over take.

But overtaking on hills and not keeping left of the hill on narrow roads, passing on blind corners are just looking to get their head punched in.

The only time i've ever overtaken across double-unbroken was a very slow truck (20km/h). it was clear ahead to see any oncoming traffic (i'm sure the driver cursed me anyway).

I'm sure most of us have bent the rules and done that more than once.

As one who had to take evasive action once because an on coming car was overtaking at double white lines I say yes you have. I still don't know how I managed to avoid sliding down into the steep side embankment.

I have done the same - but in my case it was a garbage truck on a rural road. I duly followed him & stopped behind him each time he stopped to pick up a bin, as it was double lines, and on a blind corner. By the 4th bin, where the road opened out straight, but it was still double lines, he got out and waved at me to go around.

In another thread it has been posted and somewhat discussed that it is legal (in NSW) to cross double lines, to go around an obstruction - but only if safe.

In your case, and mine, visibility was good - certainly far enough to see any oncoming vehicle that may have been coming, and ensure you had enough time to get around safely.

An obstruction is arguable - obviously a stopped vehicle is unquestionably an obstruction - especially when the driver steps out, and most would agree a truck doing 20km/h also is.

To the OP. No you didn't do the right thing.

You have a dash cam. You are automatically looking for people who are breaking the law. I bet other dashcam
owners pleasure themselves to the images.

This was never about safety and you know it. You didn't save any lives, you didn't prevent any accidents. You sat back, wanted to act superior and pompous and self righteous. You wanted to nail someone and feel vindicated for your world view on other drivers.

Double white lines are alway screwed up, they are often improperly applied. What may have been a blind corner for you may have been clear line of sight for him.

The fact that you went out, actually bought and installed a video recording device to mount in your car, tells me all I need to know.

I wish I was one of the few select people who can see through solid object and around corners.
I am assuming the OP noticed it was a blind corner from the point where the other car overtook, and not where he was when he saw it happened.

I wouldn't say double lines are always screwed up, sometimes they are. I am guessing OP would be talking about double lines which were there for a reason otherwise you would have to be a pretty miserable person to get worked up about it.

Not everyone who has a dashcam is looking for people to report. I have caught so many idiots on my cam and have never felt the need to report. I would like to have footage if an actual accident occurs though.

This post clearly shows the type of person you are with no regard for the safety of others, lets hope you get relieved of your right to share the road with others soon

By the way most people fit dash cams for their own safety as when someone like you comes flying around a blind corner in the opposite direction and they have to take evasive action they can show the police what actually happened rather than take the blame for running off the road to save their lifes.
