Very interesting thread. I had a 6/2002 BA V8 manual. So it looks like the BA was well into production long before the AU had finished.

Was that a pre-production car? I had a 6/2002 BA as a drive car and it was a pre-production car.

I am waiting for confirmation from FoA but the information I was given indicates that there was some AUIII LWB production, at least in terms of the build dates.

More info as it comes to hand.

Thanks for posting that. Very interesting. The plot thickens !

So much for the dealers "bible" on models showing AUIII commenced 7/02.

Response from Ford will be all the more interesting when Russell hears back from them

Shayne, do you know if the TL50s of any series, have a different model number from the Fairlanes or LTDs?

I guess your TL has a different model number to the two P TL50s, but do those model numbers line up with S2 Fairlanes, 18249 from above?

Yes they are different. Well the T3 TL50's are. Mine is 18257.

The other 2 which are stamped AUII are 18157

It would be interesting to know what the model number of the T2 TL50's are.

Here is a pic of my build plate. Notice how it says SED (its partially obscured in the pic) presumably short for sedan after the AU III. Whereas the one for the Fairlane pictured above by MR Hardware shows F/L presumably for Fairlane

Yes I agree its 18246. I also have a pic of the build plate for T3 TL50 002 which was built 11/02 and shows AU II SED and model number 18157 (but I won't post it for privacy reasons even though I think it may have been posted before when it was in the hands of the previous owner)

Good info Shane.

So far we have, by model number

Car, Model No, Build Date, ID info
AU3 P-TL50, 18157, 11/02, AUII SEDAN
AU2 LTD, 18246, 06/02, AUII LTD
AU2 Fairlane, 18249, 08/02, AUII F/L
AU3 TL50, 18257, 07/02, AUIII SEDAN

I am keen to put the list together form other AU LWB owners that differ! Particularily the T2 TL50 owners. S1 Boys, please contribute as well if you are watching.

Cheers

Actually, your 1st line is incorrect. Should be :-
T3 TL50, 18157, 11/02, AUII SEDAN

That car was the 2nd one built and was not a "P" car. Its build number is 002.

Only the first T3 TL50 built was a "P" car. Its build number is P01

Technically, the 3 x T3 TL50's should have been numbered P01, 001 and 002 (in keeping with the way the TE & TS cars were numbered - except of course there were more "P" cars before they started at 001

Was speaking with a T1 TL50 owner tonight who mentioned that the vehicle information is also on the sticker placed on the inside back cover of the Owners Manual and same place in the Service Record book

Here is mine. I made a copy and have deleted the original owners name, address and number plate (personalised plates) to protect his privacy

Just reading July issue of Wheels magazine and it states 'apparently' there were only 3 AUIII TL50s made with the 250kW stroker.

That is correct PG. Three TL50s with a 250KW stroker. That is sort of the whole point of this thread. 2 of the T3 TL50s are actually plated as AUIIs, Shayne's or FTe342's T3 TL is actually plated as an AUIII, which in my opinion, makes it the only AUIII LWB is existance.

russellw was attempting to find out if this is correct, but we have not heard much more on this. My thoughts, given AU LWBS ceased production in Nov 02 and that we have at least two AU LWB approaching that date, both clearly marked as AUII is that there is no general production AUIII LWBs. My LTD is plated AUII in June 02 and Mr Hardware showed us a Fairlane plate from carsales showing August 02.

Keen to hear if Russ found out any more on this.

Cheers
Stu

While it might not be stamped on most, they certainly had the same running changes as the SWB III models such as side skirts, clear side indicator lenses etc.

The BF Fairlane continued into Series II, but seems all BF Fairlanes had the MkII running changes irrespective of build date.
